What is the better brand of football


The only difference is Michigan and Wisconsin have defense and the other two don't. I mean when exactly has the Big 12 ever been known for defense? Even Texas last championship team had to outscore USC to win because they couldn't stop them.

The Big 12 for years -- especially in the heyday of Nebraska, Colorado and OU and Texas and Texas A&M -- featured strong defenses. Remember, OU held FSU to 2 points in the BCS National Championship Game.

It wasn't until the last 10 years that the Big 12 has had a sharp drop off in defense.

But that's college football today. Even the SEC isn't as strong defensively as it once was.
 
The Big 12 brand (old and maybe going back to SWAC brand of) football is better for TV ratings. Most football fans prefer the other kind

Alabama had to outscore/outlast Clemson 45-40 I believe

Growing up watching the high-scoring offenses of Spurrier and Meyer at Florida, and then having to watch the horrible offenses of Muschamp and McElwain, I have to say that I enjoy a high-scoring offense much more.

It's crazy how fast their defenses dropped off. I mean it's like TCU had 1 great year of defense in the Big 12, then immediately ditched that side of the ball. lol

That goes to the two things: the level of quarterback play and the implementation of the spread offense.

Oklahoma State started the no-huddle version exclusively in the early 2000s, then Texas Tech took it to a different level with their QBs throwing for a million yards a year. Baylor popularized the fast-break, up-tempo spread that is now used by Tulsa, Texas and other schools.

You get decent QBs and athletes at skill positions, those offenses become hard to stop.

Nah TCU had a good number of great defensive years. Only the last couple have been avg to below avg. Gary Patterson is known as a defensive mind.

Give me a good defensive game any damn day. One thing for sure that still holds strong no matter what, defense stills wins championships.

Yea Gary is but in the last couple of years he has been more uptempo than the past.
