I'm going to be pulling for this young man. Because, he understand that his talent is more than just a football player.

Our schools doesn't have the same level of athlete support as large power 5 schools.

We need to stop worrying about why blue chip athletes choose power 5 schools and start figuring out how to beat schools like James Madison and Ivy for top FCS level talent.

How many HBCUs have more than one player on this list?

Thank God Russell Athletics got out of the apparel business because moving to Nike/Adidas/UA is a good small step in the right direction.

That’s working under the assumption that he, or any other athlete, would have avoided issues simply by going to an HBCU.

In this case, Flowers couldn’t play at Bama because of questions over his ACT score.

We just to have to start building stabilized programs and stop being year-to-year teams.

Just imagine, if all our programs had a five year plan????

He wouldn't have been eligible at an HBCU that year either. The NCAA didn't clear him in time so he went to a juco.

athlete support? Lets start on the admission process first before we even get on athlete support as that's an issue all to itself. James Madison falls in that boat also and most successful FCS schools outside of a few are transfer friendly.

have you ever compared the apparel contracts?
 
My argument is not that choosing an HBCU is a magical elixir for eligibility. My argument is that he choose an HBCU out of circumstance.

Especially if the 5 year plan isnt laid on the shoulders of the head coach! That way a program can be improving regardless of who the head is. Man!

Never compared the contracts because prospective athletes don't care about the contract...they just care about the end product.

But you're definitely correct about admissions. We also need to get realistic about the need for programs like General Studies. People frown upon those programs but they are needed in D1. At the very least, every school needs an academic program to put athletes in just to keep them eligible and working toward a usable degree.

I meant either one. Both have their uses...

Additionally, in many cases, a GS degree can land one a job depending on courses taken. Not all GS programs are filled with useless coursework.
