I guess bad teams usually win those types a games with home field advantage. But I guess it will take the SCG to see if you are correct. But right now the only true stat is 35-34Jackson State and Bama A&M and Bama State aren't exactly the 2004 USC Trojans either, if you look at Grambling schedule.
Grambling is a really good team. They won a close game on the road against the best team in HBCU football.
But Alcorn losing on a blocked PAT doesn't change that. God forbid they lose a game.
I could see if they were outplayed. They weren't, though.

I understand your point....but from the start of the 2nd half (winning time).... Alcorn was outscored 21-6. Honestly, I think Alcorn has a great team, but they did not show up when it mattered the most the second half and overtime. Understand, the mistakes that Alcorn made in the 2nd Half, Grambling made in the first half (kickoff return gaffe, throwing interceptions and giving a short field to Alcorn's offense...sounds familiar??). It will play out in the field at some point again.

That's my entire point. How can you say you are excellent based on yardage where you lose????? You don't go to championships off stats...you go to championships off WINS!!!!
If a team got 600 offensive yards total....but got to the redzone and did not score...but the opposing team got 350 total offensive yards....scored....who is the best team??????
Again Alcorn made no halftime adjustments. How do you go scoreless in the 2 quarters and proclaim to be the better team? That means you have piss poor coaching and poor execution.

Alcorn's special teams were outplayed the entire game. Look back at the game and notice how close our special teams got to blocking every punt and extra point. Review the game and examine how Alcorn kept the same game plan in the 4th quarter that they had in the first three.
Our receivers dropped passes in the first two quarters and we abandoned the run on those first two field goals. that was bad coaching in our regard. Yet, we made halftime adjustments.

If that is the case, then Grambling should be kicking themselves. We also make mistakes that could created touchdowns. That is why the game is played to determine who wants it more.

Interesting !!!! 91 Total plays it took Alcorn 56 plays to gain 218 yards @3.9 yards per carry.. Yet they still lost Panthro you SUCK DUDE

I will agree on that last point that when You get into a game with a good team You will need every yard and every first down to beat them. In these times it only takes one play and that same Good team loses. If anything keeping turnovers down is the most important stat. You cant fumble against any team too many times.

Actually, we are talking difference in philosophies. A lot of offense run the no huddle spread system to stick with the plays that would get them big yards over and over again. But if your offense can score off of big plays.....that in turn leaves your defense out on the field for a very long time depending on the team you are playing. From watching Grambling play, very rarely do you see the defense give up big plays of 20-30 yards or more. The Grambling offense makes a lot of explosive plays that causes the Time of Possession stat to be a non-factor. Additionally, Grambling plays better on special teams than most of the SWAC schools, therefore every point counts. I believe Alcorn and PV out gained Gram and had more time of possession. The difference in the games have been the special teams and big plays (2 KR for TDs vs PV) (Missed FG and Blocked XP vs Alcorn). So all of the people talking about the stats in every game forgets that there special teams is as important as offense and defense.
The offensive philosophy of basketball meets football that Coach Fobbs practices shows in how quick Grambling scores on their possessions. Therefore, a team can have 500 yards of offense every game, but if it is happening between the 20s and the special teams don't play well, then it does not mean a thing against a complete team effort. In my opinion, Grambling did not play well against Alcorn and still found a way to win the game. Not saying that Alcorn did not make their share of mistakes, but I don't believe Grambling put their best foot forward (at least in the first half) of the game. As for the PV game, that game probably should not have been so close if it wasn't for a late TD and the quick scores before half for PV.
Overalll, I think Alcorn has one of the better defenses in the SWAC, but the offense is very run heavy and Gibbs is not a good passer (probably more around average) so stopping the run for Alcorn is key. For PV, probably the best offense in the SWAC, but the defense is a work in progress, especially the secondary. Both special teams are shakey at best (unless Herbert gets loose for PV because he is dynamic). As for Southern, I believe that they too have a great offense (great offensive scheme and strong skill players) but their defense is a little suspect (can be said about every SWAC defense) and decent special teams (at least what I have seen so far as I did not see the PV-SU game). Overall I think these are the four best teams in the SWAC (in no particular order).

Grambling is the BEST team in the SWAC right now and that's why they are undefeated in SWAC play. I still think AlcSU is a good team but it speaks volumes when your best RB is your QB. (check the stats from the last game smh) That's very telling, imho.

He wasn't speaking terms of the team as much as the program. Most coaches don't reflect or have feelings about what happened prior to their arrival but with Fobbs it's different. He is a second generation Gramblinite. The "They thought they had buried us" is probably in regard to those down years.
As far as those commenting about Grambling losing the Stat battle... that is very misleading with this team and it's style of play. Under Broadway, it was ball control to dictate tempo. Football has evolved...not that running the ball and good defense doesn't still win, but teams are going to that Spread and making other teams have to score to keep up. Nick Saban hates it because it doesn't allow him to ground and pound and chew up clock... His style works if he's ahead but these "quick strike" offenses can have you down 2 scores before you know it and make your defense get wore out.

I think Fobbs refers to this in the press conference this week about how the program was down and how the Alcorn game was big.
