Well, on the lighter side...this will be the most talked about video of the year!

Where was the video of him looting? It was never reported he was looting.

We say these kids don't care about shat. Then when they do care about shat we still say they're fugg ups. No wonder they feel the need to riot.
Just stop man. Everybody know there are messed up police but acting like this give anybody free will to do anything is bullshat.

Next time a kid is gunned down by another black, I want you front and center with all this anger. Don't wait for the police or a white person to kill a black for you to want to march, protest, and burn shat down.

That black killer will be in jail, where these police are not.

You just keep the well actually game going on. You're good at it.

Let the justice system run its process thing, j4l. Lets not speak that negativity into existence. I sincerely hope any and all who contributed to the young man's death are brought before justice and served swiftly and efficiently.

If not, I have a few matches and bic lighters to donate to the burning cause.

You really don't give a shat what happens in Chicago or anywhere else. If you did, you'd know folks inChicago actually DO march and hold anti-violence rallies in their own neighborhoods.

Bruh, if I didn't give a shat what happens in chiraq, I wouldn't read that daily dose M-Sat only on what occurs in that rancid city. So, obviously I have an interest there. And God forbid but I have 1st cousins/2nd cousins there. *gasp!* *gasp!*

No disrespect but the marching and anti-violence rallies seem not to be working. There needs to be a STIFFER approach, imho. Summertime is right around the corner. Wasn't it last year around Mem Day that 42 people were injured/murdered in various acts of violence (gun play) over a 3 day period? ::read::

Congrats, you can read.

So how did she KNOW that was her son out there? There were other kids dressed the same but she was able to seek him out? Or was she already down there acting up and when things got too hot-she decided to get out of dodge?

She could have done that without the cussing or hitting on him for the camera. Heck we didn't see his face until the very end and barely for that long. All she did was embarrass him and herself with those antics.

Let that be a father doing that and he would be in jail or get ripped by the media-ask Adrian Peterson.

Tommy Sotomayor video alert

I'm sure she did it for the emotional drama. I wouldn't be surprise she gets her own reality show some day.

So was the kid rioting?

Not sure, but CNN has made the mother an instant celebrity. I can see it now, 'the Real Life of Baltimore's Kick Ass Mother". It's truly sad how some women are made into instant celebrities without factual details of their whole life story.

The mother/son act was probably staged.

Sounds more logical than a worried mother venturing out into chaos and finding a masked son in a sea of rioters.

Amazing!!! That lady said she told his ass not to go down there and he went anyway. That in itself, without a riot going on, is ground to beat his ass. She did what she thought was appropriate given the circumstances. I wouldn't want my child around rioting, even is he's just standing to the side watching. I may let him march, but the second folk start rioting, leave. There doesn't need to be video of him throwing rocks. If he down there and she knows it, she should have gone to get him. And if she see's him actively participating, whoop his ass.

Damn what gives!!! This woman was concerned about her child but she is still wrong. Now it was staged? Now there are questions about her running off the dad?

What gives? She told the boy not to go and he went anyway.

Founder you know what's up. She's suppose to show how much she loves her son by letting him go out there and risk becoming a homicide statistic or potential convicted felon.

All the other positive things going on, but the media, especially CNN decides to focus on her swinging haymakers and cussing out her son. Obviously, this is not the first time she has acted a fool with her son. What I would like to know, what happen between the day her son was born and now to cause her and her son to be at odds with each other? Everyone wants to praise her for trying to protect her almost grown son, but no one is trying to get to the root cause of the problem. Per the news, the woman has 4 children, 3 daughters and 1 son. Why is it that the only child acting out is her 1 son? Obviously there's a disconnect between mother and son.

Interesting discussion. I have a former student of mine that is a current Doctoral candidate. He posted an interesting take on this subject. The following are his words:

I totally disagree with the ways in which this video has been propped up as en example of "good parenting." I am even more disturbed that this has been co-opted by the media and police in particular as what "these mothers" should be doing when this sort of violence appropriately fits their interest of silencing opposition to the police. This is no judgment on the mother, but the reality is that all institutions we have existed in as Black folk have socialized us to be docile, to not fight back, to not engage in the very tactics that are at the core of American ideals of change and progress for the marginalized - protest, riot, violence.

In the instance of this video, she is being lauded as a hero for beating her son for involvement in the resistance against brutal cops by the very institutions (police and media) that had this occurred at any other moment, she would have been painted as a child abuser, negligent mother, and in need of state intervention for child care. This has been the historical narrative and response to women of color with children by the state... So what changed now is that it is in the interest of the state to spin this narrative as a convenient way of using the otherwise demonized black mother to aid in its goal of silencing dissent.

Now, the fear for this mother is real, and I in no way neglect her rationale for her actions. These are the realities Black mothers and fathers are dealing with when raising kids of color in America, especially when they want to participate in movements against inequality... My mother worries all the time when I tell her I am doing something of that nature because there are real consequences for people of color. But I cringe at her response and mostly the response of others, particularly the state and media, because I see the larger narrative of docility and the way the state and media selectively choose cases that conveniently fit thier interests but otherwise has destroyed the lives of others, in this case women of color.

So now violence becomes the answer when we beat our kids to get off the street protesting police brutality, but otherwise you better not beat your kid... I have a problem with that spin...

Thoughts?

So swinging hay makers and cussing him out on T.V. will instantly change that almost grown child's life overnight? Lawyers love people like this. They need more mothers like her who are willing to do anything to save her child, which includes mortgaging her entire life away in order to save her trouble son. It helps them add more caseloads and importance to why there needs to be more lawyers. And once the lawyers are done with people like her, the vulture preachers emotionally prey on them for what little they have left. But when someone tries to look into the root cause of these problems in trying stop things from getting to a point of no return, then they are wrong and don't understand those parents who have to threw hay makers and cuss out their children are doing.

even IF her intentions were honorable I believe her methods as his mother were wrong. A father can emasculate his teenage son, & it will be received totally different than when a mother does it. If you grow up a male with only a single mother you will have to learn manhood elsewhere, she has no experience being a man. For all the ills the black men and boys posses, one must ask who's doing the raising? Why are so many black women single mothers? Is it because they don't want to marry or co-parent? Black men don't see any value in staying with her and parenting? or is this situation similar to the chicken or egg senerio? Which came first, sorry men or bad women who ran off good men attempting to raise men and failing and then the continuation of women breeding with these less than males? Who is at fault here?

Most of the Black people praising her acts and lauding her as an example of good parenting are afraid of standing up to systematic white supremacy, and view young black males as animals (n---ers) that should be tamed.

They have no understanding of the bigger picture and why the media replayed this over and over like a porno flick. They literally get off on seeing a young black male slapped in the face.

"We" love a good minstrel show that further advances our stereotypes.
