Former Southern University standout Rickie Weeks will be in action this weekend at Zephyr Field in Metairie.
Weeks, a second baseman on the Milwaukee Brewers' Triple-A affiliate Nashville Sounds, will face the New Orleans Zephyrs for a four-game set starting at 7:05 p.m. today.
The teams play again at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, 2:05 p.m. Sunday and 7:05 p.m. Monday.
"That's where I grew up a little bit," Weeks said of his return to Louisiana, where he made his mark, going from an undrafted player out of Altamonte Springs, Fla., to one of the hottest prospects in the nation while at SU, leaving as NCAA baseball's all-time hitting leader (.473). "It's always good to be back to see old friends."
The Brewers drafted Weeks with the second overall pick in the 2003 draft after Weeks led SU to a 47-7 mark and earned honors as college baseball's best player, including the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy.
