I don't trust Duer as far as I could throw him.

Once the MEAC gets back down to 10 football playing schools, then the conferences should partner to have each member from one league play one from another in a series of home-and-home games and premier neutral site games. It doesn't have to be one weekend, but it would be cool to have at least a couple of MEAC/SWAC nonconference game weekends. Then you sell the Celebration Bowl more with those games.

However, it makes too much sense.

@bluedog you're right. It's on the individual schools to make up that OOC schedule. I'm just itching to see more than one SWAC/MEAC game that could generate money for those schools. I wanna see FAMU/Southern, Grambling/NCAT, and others ...

OK, I am deeply rooted in reality and the hypothetical nature of this discussion. What I'm saying is...........IF this were to be a consideration, conference brass should run point on this initiative.

So let me make sure I got this right. You think Duer is incompetent but you want to take control out of the schools AD's hand and let Duer run point?

I too would love to see more MEAC/SWAC matchups, and since Duer single-handedly orchestrated the creation of the :)rolleyes:)Celebration Bowl maybe he could see the benefit of more regular season (hypothetical) football games between the SWAC & MEAC.

SWAC football has a 7-game conference mandate.
The SWAC and MEAC could mandate that each member team must play 1 opponent from the opposing conference.
Without the conference mandate there are no assurances that each member team would comply.
Conference administration could assist with ancillary responsibilities and scheduling.....or not.
It's a pipe dream at best.

If you're Southern, and you see the possibility to play FAMU in Atlanta in 2019 ... you'd jump on it right?
If you're Grambling, and you see the possibility to play NCAT in either a home-and-home, or let's say Chicago ... you'd jump on it right?
If you're Alcorn, and you see the possibility of a home-and-home with Bethune Cookman ... you'd jump on it right?

I know there are other things to consider ... and a lot of us bitch and moan about nonconference football. But if their is a chance to make money without it being an FBS team, we should look at it, right?
 
I don't know what the fascination is with wanting to play MEAC School. If they didn't keep their word for the heritage bowl, what makes any of you think they will commit to this.

That's all I'm saying. Create some opportunity for competitive football that generates money for both programs. The FBS games serve their purpose, but why not play teams that have the same history, values, etc. BUT, let me be careful, I am a DREAMER.

I'm looking at it on an individual school basis ... The optics of a "real" SWAC/MEAC challenge as an early-season tie-in and promotion for the Celebration Bowl is good.

But IMO, it's about making money. I'd rather see Southern play FAMU in ATL or Chicago than see Southern play another FBS team. Hell, I would rather that for any SWAC school.

I see from now on I'm going to have to request a simply yes or no when communicating with you.

I'll take all that typing to mean yes you want the guy that you don't believe is competent to take over the duties of the AD's.

The funny things is we bash our own product to smithereens, but when there are opportunities to really showcase HBCU football with good matchups that are financially beneficial to both schools ... we find 10 reasons why that shit sucks before coming up with one reason why that shit is awesome.

Why? If you're really about making money that's not going to be it unless something is at state. The majority of FAMU/SU games that really made mone were home/home

And I'm perfectly happy with the old-school home-and-home. I would rather Southern and FAMU play home-and-home, and rotate to ATL every three years (to help keep that game fresh).

I don't want these Classics to be the end-all-be-all. Sure I'd like for them to be an option every other year, but I wouldn't want to see them every year.

Take some time and read my response. Try to turn down the "perpetual antagonist" routine for just a moment. I don't want Duer to take control. Operative words in my response: ASSIST, MANDATE, ANCILLARY.
I feel that Duer could do a better job (as commissioner) creating opportunities for the SWAC. I just don't think he is motivated enough to "beat the bushes" unless there are shoe kickbacks to be gained.

What does the SWAC Athletic Commissioner's role and responsibilities look like to you? Does Duer check all the boxes for you? Is he your cousin?

Hell naw I don't trust Duer to have the gumshoe to make the MEAC/SWAC Challenge a real conference wide thing. It would take making a real effort to do something that benefits the conference and not just sharp. That would also take a real effort to convince the ADs and presidents to go along with this because it could benefit the whole conference and not just 3-4 teams. Then you would have to convince Thomas to have the MEAC go along with this because they've done OK against FBS teams recently. They would have to give up a money game to make this happen with only 3 OOC games. You also would have to convince the MEAC to create their own digital network

I've thrown this idea out a couple of times. It could be patterned after the basketball challenges. Get sponsors and give money to the conference that wins to be distributed evenly. If ESPN can't carry all the games that's where the SDN kicks in along with possibly including other entities like Stadium, beIN, etc.
