Week 2 Observations

After everyone seeing themselves playing for 2 weeks (except Prairie View) , what do your team do that is good and what is it that they need to work on. How do you see your team finishing out the year.

From what I saw

(1) Grambling - Still the same Grambling. They just won't be as dominant as they were last year.
(2) Prairie View - Have the offense to keep everybody defense at bay. I feel that the defense is going to lose the a game that will keep them from winning the WEST.
(3) Alcorn - Have the talent to return back to Houston. Discipline and very questionable playcalling on the offense must stop. That sideline to sideline passing need to be thrown from playbook. I feel that Alcorn success or downfall will go down on the OC Fred Kaiss.
(4) Southern - Offense haven't shown me what can they do in the life after Quinn and Tillery.
(5) JSU - Defense is the truth this year. Must find consistency on Offense.
(6) AAMU - Shows promise on both sides of the ball. If they stick to the FR QB I think they will do ok in the SWAC.
(7) Alabama St. - I feel they have a legit defense that will have them in every game. That offense is in for a long year unless changes are made soon.
(8) TXSU - Have the defense to keep them in most games in the SWAC. Don't have the offense to win many games in the SWAC.
(9) UAPB - Defense looks like an improvement but offense still needs work.
(10) MVSU - QB looks promising but no OL or DL, and lacks depth. 2-9 at best

I agree with you all all ten teams. Southern need to work on special team asap. Defense has showed flashes of being good then the next play total blown coverage and offensive need Howard back asap or this will be a long season for SU
 



This will be interesting, I think we may not know much on everyone until week 4 and beyond on most teams. The West will be between Grambling and PV! The East is between Alcorn, A&M, JSU, and Bama St. Alcorn has the most talent, JSU has the best D, A&M seems balanced on both sides, and Bama St has a decent D but offense is struggling. The East will be decided in the last 3 weeks in the season, may the best teams represent their divisions in the SWAC Championship. I got a feeling a few coaches will blow their talented teams chances.....
 
Valley hasn't had over 300 yards in passing in a while but got it last night. Once Valley settles on a QB (Fowler or Betts) we will be OK there (Fowler is more accurate but Betts has a cannon and more athletic as a runner). I think once we get past the gauntlet of the first four games our defense should be closing to gelling by them. McElfresh (aka McFresh) might be the 1st white receiver in a while to get a 1000 yards in the SWAC. He is good

OL is still poo and our offensive play calling was terrible last night. FIVE trips in the red zone last night and only scored 3 points. You got a stud running QB with Betts and call 4 straight pass plays at the 6 yard on one trip. You throw a fade to 5'7 Chambers in another trip to get intercepted

Too bad our head coach would rather conduct a research project with his limited backup QB all season.

I guess he figures since he already has a foot out of the door that he could do what's best for his family than his employer.

Oh well.

This is the time that he needs to try to dethrone Alcorn for the EAST or he is gone. He is one the 4 coaches in the SWAC that on their last year of their contract (UAPB, Bama St., Valley, and AAMU).

They knew Tillery nor Willie was coming back through that door. Time to suck it up. Our special teams has been atrocious and our coach needs to go. Who was our last decent punter? Return game was always solid. Coverage always terrible

Defense. C -Yes inconsistencies but tackling still a problem. when your o sputter and have you on the field damn near 50% of the game than what you expect.

We are stronger this year across the board. Defensively the secondary needs to tighten up. Possibly the best Dline we've had since 09. Lots of talent on this team. Offensively we move the ball very well. Gotta work on our redzone offense. Weve already faced 2 of the better defenses we will see this year so I'm looking forward to seeing how we match up against the rest of the SWAC. Only weakness offensively I've seen thus far has been QB play. I think Brent will continue to work hard as the season goes on and get better. I definitely see us challenging for the East.
 
If Kincade would have made other decisions such as throwing the ball away or simply running for the first down rather than looking for the pass we would have had 40 points or close to it.

I have never liked Kaiss as an OC. He is good when he has 2-3 RBs that can pound the ball behind a good line but passing offense is not his forte. He is also good at special teams.

Props for analyzing all those sorry teams... just say they are sorry and keep it moving. You have 5 teams in the conference with a pulse and yes, Alcorn can make it back to to Houston but that all depends on how the JSU offense evolves throughout the season.

Seems like ole boy might finally have PVs offense on track as expected. That means trouble for SU down the line. Can PV finally beat SU? However, I wont count SU out just yet.

I believe our defense plans and works by committee. The best coaches on our staff are defensive minded coaches, including Hughes. Hendrick has worked other places and never set the world on fire. Let not your heart be troubled. Let not your heart be fooled. Now, the offense needs to come together and work this out!

DUDE, you simply have the wrong HC. He wants to run the wrong offense. You need an OC with a history of running the ball. AAMU wont have the talent to run a fast paced offense. Be who you are.. AAMU has always been a strong defensive team that limits mistakes and keeps the ball on the ground.

JSU has always mixed it up and we have gotten away from that. UNTIL JSU can run the ball again, we wont be JSU.

Its still a long season so teams have time to improve.

Dude, coach Simmons as a head coach is 1-1 vs coach Odums/SU. What is this "finally" you speak of? smh Coach Simmons, as a head coach, is also 0-2 vs coach Fobbs of GSU. He's undefeated against everyone else. A head coach w/ only 3 IC losses in 2 years? That's damned impressively good.
 
I guess since I root for PV every year to win the WEST and they STILL end up 3rd, I just figured they always losing.. LOL
We beating ya'll ass this year tho... FOOT.. PANTHERS ASS!
