Was Tony Dungy Wrong?

Michael Sam opened himself up for the criticism and the opinions of people. So now he has to fight that battle. In a yahoo article it heavily criticised Dungy and even went as far as to compare Michael Sam to Michael Vick because Dungy was a supporter of Vick getting a second chance. Yet, how far should we take our personal beliefs?

Answer: Yes.

And what are these "things" that will happen? And have those "things" happened in the Rams locker room now? Did they happen in the Brooklyn Nets locker room? Was the team distracted with Jason Collins on the squad? Didn't hear or read anything about that being the case.
 



It's his opinion/his stance on the entire Michael Sam thing, so my answer is NO.
 
Tony Dungy was right. Sam did not have to give us his sexuality. LBGTs always want attention but cannot handle criticism. I do not reveal certain things at my workplace for a reason. Sam brought this on himself.

Gays need to realize they are not special. At some point these gays gotta stop getting so much attention.
 
We are all entitled to our opinions...

This will forever be an ongoing battle.... Ultimately, WGAS what Michael Sam is doing.... Regardless of your beliefs, this people are entitled to their views, choices, and even opinions. This too includes Dungy.

Again, I believe that M. Sam was proactive in his approach. He chose to express his sexual orientation before he was "Outted" in possibly the prime of his career. Takes guts... and I actually can respect that. Now him kissing ole boy on national TV, was a little different.
 
I understand where Tony Dungy is coming from of not wanting to deal with the Micheal Sam issue all training camp and all season long. It can become a circus. I think the Vick situation and the Micheal Sam situation is totally different.
 
Tony Dungy is probably my favorite coach of all time and is undoubtedly the driving force behind nearly all the Black Head Coaches in the NFL. But in this instance he is 100% wrong. This is not about his personal beliefs, which he's entitled to. It's about his personal beliefs potentially affecting the rights of others. Being an NFL player is a job, first and foremost. And to not hire a potential employee because he's gay is discriminatory and wrong. As for his Christian beliefs, how many of his players had children out of wedlock? Banged groupies? Tony Dungy the commentator is entitled to his own opinion. Tony Dungy the coach/employer is not allowed to make his personal beliefs the basis for employment decisions.

Training Camp. Players live together in dorms. People in that Rams Locker Room is gonna F*ck with Micheal Sam.

Where did Dungy cite his religious beliefs as a reason for not picking Sam?

He didn't in that particular quote. But you and I both know he has a long documented history in this area. This statement wasn't made in a vacuum. It is in line with his overall beliefs. Also, this statement "Not because I don't believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn't want to deal with all of it. It's not going to be totally smooth…things will happen." is pretty much in line with what you hear from a lot of employers who don't want to deal with "others".

You don't think picking Sam comes with a media circus? Who wants all that attention around a last round, draft pick who had a horrible combine and many people think is not that good to begin with. The moment that Sam gets cut, there will be all type of hell raised by certain people about discrimination.

i think Tony Dungy dont wanna deal with the media circus that comes along with Micheal Sam. Especially in traning camp.

Nah, bruh. This is all about Sam being gay.

He vouched for Vick when the world hated him. He vouched for Tebow even though he couldn't play football. Both men attracted a ton of media attention. Shoot, people are still giving Vick hell. People are still talking about Tebow. Where was the distraction talk then from Dungy?
 
Tony Dungy was not wrong at all. You just had the whole "bullying" b.s. in Miami and you think Sam will just have an easy path in the locker room? Please. Sam is welcoming the distraction as well. Let's not forget about the reality tv show he had planned. Dungy didn't say anything wrong. It's also time for folks to let Michael Vick live and leave the guy alone. He's paid his debt to society and in my opinion got too hard of a punishment. Folks still harass that guy. SMH.

Question: We all love morning sex from a woman. Do you go to workplace telling every co-worker you had sex with your woman? I know I don't. Why did Sam have to reveal he was gay?
 
He was 100% wrong. As if this would be the first NFL player with a media circus Dungy would have to deal with...:shame:

I didn't read the article where this situation was compared to Vick, so I don't get the comparison.

And as much as Dungy speaks about his Religion and Faith...you can't just separate the two now.

To say it's not going to be "...totally smooth, things will happen" is BS and a cop out. How are you going to just predict that? Based on what? Things happen even with heterosexual players. The bullying situation in Miami. Player that killed his baby mama and then went to the training facility and killed himself. Players beating their girlfriends/wives. Players driving drunk and hitting people. What things are he talking about?!


Again...a weak cop-out and he's wrong.

So does Manziel. Even moreso considering the investment in Manziel is much larger.

Revealing you're gay and talking about your sex life is 2 different things.
 
They say us Pisces can see things before they happen:

I predict Sam will not be cut but will be favored over an HBCU athlete. The HBCU athlete will prove himself better than Sam in camp but because the Rams do not want potential discrimination claims, they cut the HBCU athlete instead of Sam. HBCU athlete complains and raises hell about Sam only making the roster because of fear of discrimination. Media asks Sam does he deserve to make the roster? Sam uses playing in the SEC vs HBCU as an example. All hell breaks loose.

I see it coming.
