Vowels offered top league post (SWAC)

The way the Swac has been we won't know if we have a new commissioner u ntil 2 days after the SCG....

Outsider Smoutsider. Get the Best Available.

If Vowels is the best candidate out there, then he should get the offer. Plus just because a candidate is an insider doesn't automatically make them the best candidate. Many an entity/institution have sank stubbornly sticking to this, "we gotta have one of our own at the helm" mentality. If one of your own is supremely qualified and available, then so much the better, but in this case, hell, looks to me like Vowels is the most qualified and/or the only taker. Not too many others beating the door down for the position is it?

I would love to see TnSU come to the SWAC along with Skegee.

As far as TennState goes, that's basically a dead horse. The Tenn Board of College Regents is proboaly very content with TennState staying in the Ohio Valley Conference. I don't look for them to make a move anytime soon. But it's a nice idea, though...

And as far as adding Tuskegee goes, I've got two words, nine syllables:

Institutional Proximity

That's a dirty little word that's found deep in the small print of most Athletic Conference Charters, and I'm certain it's in ours (SWAC). Basically, what that means is that there are restrictions placed on how close member schools can be to each other. And although Tuskegee isn't right next door to Alabama State, it's less than 50 miles away. So it's considered very close. And that closeness may cause (or create) an unwanted (or undesired) competition for students, resources and other entities. Right now, PVAM is relatively close to TxSou, and that may be the only instance within the SWAC, that doesn't necessarily run-up against such a clause.

But let's take C-USA. Three years ago, SMU tried to join C-USA, and failed. Part of the decision not to accept SMU involved it's proximity to TCU (in Fort Worth). C-USA felt that, by adding SMU, would create an 'invisible, but tangible' competition with TCU for students and other resources from the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex. And that same kind of insinuation may happen if Tuskegee ever applies or inquires about SWAC membership....

Now I'm not certain about any specifics (geographical limitations) concerning the Institutional Proximity Clause as it relates to us (SWAC). But I'm certain that the Clause is in there, and that it might become an issue. It can (could) be ammended (I'm sure), but it would be issue that would be discussed......

Just another thought.

Why are yall so hung up on SkeeHeeHow? And Muskee has not been beating the hell out of the SIAC (sure they got the W, but certainly not beating the hell out of...). Even they won't make that claim. There are other schools in the SIAC that have proven to be competitive to SWACers. Fort Valley has been leaving Acorn's arse like (o) for the past couple of years. And that arse is going be like (O) during their homecoming (write that down). No proximity issue with the Valley. SWAC needs some presence in Georgia. Let us in now! Stop embarrassing yourselves with those DII arse whoopings and the rest of yall hiding behind conference rules. Bring that arse:redhot: !

Where/how did Skegee get into this thread? but ok,,,

And that closeness may cause (or create) an unwanted (or undesired) competition for students, resources and other entities.

NOPE, couldn't be further from the truth. TU and ASU are completely different entities. We have totally different missions/focuses. ASU is predominantly business/education oriented. Tuskegee is predominantly engineering/vet med/agriculture/techinically oriented. Plus too, Tuskegee is private and ASU is public. I doubt very seriously if there is any cross-coupling between Tuskegee and ASU at all. This can be seen, for example, in the enrollment. There are equal to slightly more students from the state of Georgia than the state of Alabama at Tuskegee (this was 3-4 years ago when I checked enrollment stats) with AL and GA making up maybe less than half the enrollment and everywhere outside those states making up the rest. Proximity,, maybe,,,,, competition for students,,, absolutely not.

Fort Valley has been leaving Acorn's arse like (o) for the past couple of years.
And? Alcorn is no better than Alabama State. In fact, State, I believe, has had the better record recently and Skegee compete well against ASU, so that Fort Valley/Alcorn stuff that you are suppositioning is totally null. Just not a good argument.

I would go with the other argument of proximity with ASU and already being in the Montgomery metro market which Tuskegee is in virtually,,, but not some wack non-sense about Fort Valley being more competitive against SWAC schools.

Actually, my point was that both TU and FVSU could compete well against the SWAC conference. One could do as well as the other in my opinion. As far as comparing Alcorn and Bama State, well look at both schools' schedule. And while you're at it, compare FVSU's schedule and TU's. Obviously TU has a good program. Why not step it up a notch with the scheduling. WSSU and Lincoln, not too convincing to me.

And BTW Bartram, is that Sunnyvale, CA? I am in the Bay Area too... Work with fine Tuskegee grad in Livermore.

Actually McNeese and Northwestern are just a rock throw away from each other and they both compete in the southland conf. so if there is such a clause then it must be only in D1a schools.
It probably was more of an excuse then a clause not to let smu in.

That theory is wack.......because for years TCU and SMU played eachother when they were in the Old Southwest Conferance and it wasn't a problem and they had Baylor down the road on I35. I don't believe that most students care about what conferance you are in when it comes to getting a college education. Some may want to go their because of a higher competition level with other schools that are closer together than spread out across america like CUSA. Also, SMU was tryin to get out of the old WAC when they had 16 members spread from California to Texas to a little closer to home which is not a problem now.

One college being close to another doesnt mean jack - does anyone know about Tobacco Road in the ACC? They can all spit from one campus to another.
