Interesting....... shole wish ole Dowell had his Doctorate....he would probably be a shoe in to take over the Music Dept if he did.
Been a long time coming for Dr. James. Good for him.

Does this mean, Dr. Liddell will fill Dr. Jimmie James position as department chair when he retires and JSU's Band Director position will become vacant?
that was the rumor that was floating around my last year in the boom(07)...so as a result of it, it wouldn't suprise me if it happened

I think when his voice was crisp, they should have had him to record a few versions of his introductions that could be played digitally when the SONIC BOOM performed ....especially on special occasions like every now and then at Homecoming. Now, I never really liked him as the MC during the dance routine but his introductions as the BOOM enters Memorial and when they take to the field can't be duplicated. Others have even tried to read his script but their voices don't carry the same effect.

Does this mean, Dr. Liddell will fill Dr. Jimmie James position as department chair when he retires and JSU's Band Director position will become vacant?
This rumor has been circulated for a while so hopefully they have a plan. But that will depend on what the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts wants to do. She has been there since JSU was built :lol: so she may believe in internal promotions rather than doing a national search for a Department Chair.

I wish they'd record Bill Dease's quip when the Boom would be on the way into the Stadium. Dease was the old PA announcer (the guy before the current PA dude). Dease was start in, "Can you here it? Do you see what I see?? Do you feeeeeel what I feel.... Now entering the Stadium is the Sonic BOOOOOM of the South.......
Dease is retired and back in Jackson (lives in Woodlea).
I wish they could get him to announce the band (at home games).

One of the show producers actually wanted Dr. James to introduce the band (opening the show). But I think CBS already had their annoucer....
Can you imagine the HYPE had Dr. James ran that whole narration with the Boom humpin'-n-stumpin'??? Mayne, they wudda had to add the 'S' back into JSU Rocks da House....

No one gets there in time to see the BOOM enter the stadium anymore anyway. I used to NEVER miss the BOOM march in but I have not seen them march in since the 90s and I am normally in my seat about 45 minutes prior to kickoff.

I think the university will end up getting a dept. chair from the outside. I wouldn't anticipate Liddell taking the job.

So you don't think Dowell would have a great chance if he was Dr. Taylor? Just asking? No smack or anything. We used to mess with him about that. I always thought was what held him up from advancing. The dude is hella talented. Of course if he had been Dr. Taylor back in 1990, I wonder if things would already be different.
