Video show Rutgers coach abusing players

Video of Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice verbally and physically abusing players aired Tuesday afternoon on ESPN's Outside the Lines, footage that included Rice whipping a basketball at a player's head, kicking a player and using a homophobic slur directed at a player.
Rice was suspended for three games in December and fined $50,000 after athletic department officials saw video footage of abuse. Eric Murdock, a former director of player development whose contract was not renewed, brought the footage and abuse to light. He also told ESPN that the abuse led to multiple players transferring to other schools.
"To witness that video and see your coach physically putting his hands on players, physically kicking players, firing balls at players at point-blank range, the verbal abuse, the belittling. Yeah, I was in total shock that this guy wasn't fired," Murdock said on ESPN.

+1. What is it w/ kids in universities these days submitting to physical and/or verbal abuse <b>voluntarily</b>? They weren't taught if someone hits you, you HIT them back REGARDLESS of who it is? :smh:

That coach should've been fired a long time ago. Another form of abuse is a fat out of shape coach attempting to yell/educate his/her players on being in shape when they themselves are fat, out of shape, blahhhhhhhhhhhhh. :retard: Senseless.

But it's not always that simple, P.

If you're a kid from meager means, and you've got a chance to go to College on a basketball scholly (when you know you would not have been able to go otherwise), you're going to realize how important your scholarship is. You've got pressure to perform and play well (to keep the scholarship). There's pressure from parent and the old neighborhood (to do 'well'). And if you're a good player (with a possible shot at the NBA) there's even more pressure to perform. All of that adds up to the kid putting all his 'eggs' in this one basket. So they take the abuse from the Coach, thinking it's the price they've gotta pay to get to the next level.... So they practice self-discipline and they take it.

Besides, they know the instant they defend themselves against a Coach, they're toast. And they're labeled a troublemaker and their dreams and their education goes out the window... And they'll get blamed for it....

Nawl, they aren't gunna risk all that....

I bet Vivian Stringer the ladies coach at Rutgers is like WTF is he doing. LOL. They are coming to the Big Ten so I expect Rutgers to find another coach anyway. This just gives them even more reason to can that clown.

True. They would say angry black kid kicking the white coaches arse for no reason statement. He would be Latrell Sprewell all over again except for it being college instead of the NBA. Glad someone took video public.

I guess man. I was reared differently obviously. Where I'm from, pride(family) first before anything else. Nothing else really matters. :read: :read: :read: :read: :read:

Seems to me w/ @ least 12-14 other witnesses looking @ verbal and physical abuse that was obviously consistent, someone would've stepped forward and collaborated one's self-defense during a certain situation. If they did otherwise and didn't collaborate the self-defense, it would be best to distance onesself from those "type" people from the outset as they are the lowest of the bottom of the barrel to allow that and keep quiet. The type of people that would allow you to become physically injured and not have your back in any situation. That's not the definition of a friend or family. :read:

It's sorta not that simple. Unless, you have evidence and witnesses at your disposal, it's tough to snitch on the coach. You don't want to be that guy who gets his scholarship snatched either.

Plus, people in general tend to fall in line. If one person steps up, they all will. If not, nobody will.

I stand by what I said.

I have no problem with coaches yelling at players. A little physical contact to be used as instruction is fine as well. I've experienced my fair share of verbal chastisement during my meager athletic career. But when you belittle or get overly physical with the athletes such as Rice (or any other coach past or present) you lose all respect as a coach or authority figure. You are a bully at that point, and are abusing your position of authority. I don't care how many games are won in the process. You have to treat the athletes with respect at all times.

The assistant reported it... and i believe in order to protect himself he had practices recorded for proof later on. Considering administration was hesitant to handle the situtation.
