Kudos to Taylor for handling her business!!!

The apology is NOT A RULE, ITS A TRADITION!
A tradition that makes no sense at all. Sometimes the net works in your favor, and sometimes it doesn't. It is part of the game. Tennis is the only sport that comes to mind that has a tradition like that. In football, if a field goal or extra point attempt hit the upright but still goes through, does anyone apologize for that?

Oh, and did yall see that confrontation between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniel Altmire at the end of their match? 🤣 All because Altmire used an underhand serve. Granted, the underhand serve is rarely used, but, it is legal. Tsitsipas said that Altmire was being disrespectful.

Tennis is getting a lot more exciting. 🤣

Ben Shelton retires after splitting sets with Adrian Mannarino at 2025 US Open

WHAT HAPPENED: It didn’t happen the way he would have liked, but Frenchman Adrian Mannarino is through to the fourth round of the US Open for the first time.

Mannarino advanced on Friday afternoon by a scoreline of 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, ret., when sixth-seeded American Ben Shelton was forced to bow out with a left-shoulder injury after more than three hours of play in a packed Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Mannarino had been 0-5 in third-round matches in New York and was 0-22 against Top 10 players at Grand Slams. But the 37-year-old Frenchman, playing in his 15th US Open main draw, will now face 20th seed Jiri Lehecka of Czechia for a place in the quarterfinals. Lehecka beat Raphael Collignon of Belgium, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, earlier on Friday.

“I’m happy to get through, and I wish him the best of course,” Mannarino said.

Shelton said he started to feel pain in his left shoulder at the beginning of the fourth set. The 22-year-old American took a medical timeout in the middle of Mannarino’s 0-1 service game. Shelton persisted in the fourth by changing tactics, serving and volleying and coming to the net more often.

During the match, Shelton told his box it was the "worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life," but he wasn't sure what caused it.

'Welcome to the show!': American Townsend upsets Andreeva at the 2025 US Open

WHAT HAPPENED: Teenage sensation and No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva enjoyed a quietly successful and ruthlessly efficient start to her 2025 US Open, giving up just five games across her first two singles matches.

By contrast, American Taylor Townsend, ranked No. 139 in the world, has had to contend with the chaos that kicked up after she beat Jelena Ostapenko in a heated second-round battle.

From the start of their third-round match, both players maintained a fierce focus on the “job” at hand, as Townsend said in an interview just before walking out. But it was Townsend who pulled out the upset win, 7-5, 6-2.

After trading early breaks, the players seemed to settle into their game plans. As the world No. 1 doubles player, it was no surprise that Townsend started ending points at the net—thereby cutting short the relentless groundstroke rallies Andreeva had planned.

Tied at 4-4 in the first set, very little seemed to separate the two. The discernible daylight between them: Townsend had approached the net 11 times, winning eight of those points, while Andreeva had just one successful foray to the net. For her part, the 18-year-old had cleaner serving stats and fewer errors.

Then, tied at 5-5, Andreeva dropped to a 0-40 deficit on her serve. In a rare tactical error, she pulled Townsend up to the net—and paid dearly for it on game point. Serving at 6-5, the American opened the game with an ace, then grabbed both the game and the first set. Set score: 7-5 to Townsend.
