All you heard were "THANK YOU" and some was mad because the record was broken and the last previous largest attended game was against a BCS school. :lmao: That is why they were mad.

They might have to move this game if UL-Lafayette continues its upswing and SU gets back on track. They probably would have 50,000 plus at the game.

if that happens then lafayette will become the 2nd largest city in louisiana for one day lol

Dr. Broussard said we are not playing UL-Lafayette in 2016. However, we do play ULL in 2014.

Re: UL-Lafayette has been added to the 2014 football schedule

The Ragin’ Cajuns also announced that they will open the 2014 season at home against Southern on Aug. 30. That game completes their 2014 non-conference schedule, which also includes trips to Ole Miss and Boise State and a home game against Louisiana Tech

From my understanding, the 2014 season is another 12 game schedule, for FCS schools.

It would be nice if it was really a home and home series with ULL but they probably don't travel well anyway.

ULL is a FBS school. You don't go to a FCS school to play them. That is a FBS no-no. Remember we get a check to play them. Last time was a good deal for a 45 minute trip.

Their stadium is definitely going to be packed now.

Maybe the third largest but not the second. Lafayette would need approximately 110,000 additional people to surpass Baton Rouge and approximately 80,000 people to surpass Shreveport. Right now Lafayette is the fourth largest city in Louisiana.

Lafayette 122,130
Shreveport 200,975
Baton Rouge 230,139

That is without a doubt going to be another HUGE crowd. Too many Southernites within striking distances. Lafayette is a bulls-eye for Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and Opelousas and all points in between. And it's probably on that long Labor Day weekend. :emlaugh:

Redbone Classic part deaux

Even though UL is on an upswing, I'm sure they are happy as hell to get the Jags back on the campus. I was at that last game......it was ninjas everywhere!!!!!!

So can we expect Northwestern State to make a return trip to BR then?
Baton Rouge - Dawson Odums will makes his Southern coaching debut since having the interim tag removed from his title of head coach against the University of Houston to open the 2013 football slate.

"Several intriguing matchups, including an opener against Houston in the largest Southern University alumni pocket outside of Louisiana, a restoration of the intersectional rivalry against Northwestern State, and hosting defending SWAC Eastern Division champion Jackson State are highlights for next season," said Southern athletics director Dr. William Broussard.

Yes, that was something else. I had been saying for years that this game would be a powder keg if we could get it to happen. And, it finally did. You had Jags coming from I-10 west and east from as far as Houston and the other direction from Baton Rouge and the Ville Platte and Opelousas gang coming South down I-49 and every where else in between. :emlaugh: Those dog gone highways as you got closer to Lafayette looked like North Baton Rouge for a Southern home game.
