UConn opened the 2018 NCAA tournament with a 140-52 victory over 16th-seeded Saint Francis (Pennsylvania) on Saturday, breaking the record for most points in a tournament game.

The previous mark of 121 was set by Alabama in a four-overtime victory against Duke in 1995.

Kyla Irwin made a 3-pointer with 7:26 remaining to give the Huskies a 122-50 lead to set the record.

However, it wasn't the only record set in the game.

UConn on Saturday also shattered tournament records for most points in a quarter (55), and half (94) of an NCAA tournament game. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the previous records were held by UConn for a quarter (41 in 2016) and Long Beach State for a half (80 points in 1987).

The Huskies' margin of victory (88 points) also was the second-largest difference in NCAA tournament history

It's UConn (in most years) then a drop off to South Carolina, Baylor and now Mississippi State then another BIG drop off to everyone else.

The disparity between the top 10 women's teams and the rest is Grand Canyon wide. A consistent top 25 school like Green Bay stands no chance against UConn. UConn destroyed a ranked USF team in the AAC championship

UCONN is what happens when a legendary coach can recruit a lot of top players and get them to bring no less than their A- game for 99% of their games. They did have like a 5-6 year period where UCONN kind of fell back a few steps behind Tennessee and Baylor, but they have surged back with a vengeance.

The thing is though the "elite" women's teams are not that deep...7 maybe 8 players deep. That 6 or 7 are really really good though.

WNBA teams are more than 6 or 7 deep so eventually the fatigue factor would set in (though UConn girls are in great shape) plus it is a different type of game. I would love to see them play the WNBA champ.

Those UConn girls run all day and barely breathe hard. They are very well conditioned because the have to play so many minutes. After the first 6 or 7 they are vulnerable.

This ain't football when it comes to depth though. Honestly, if UCONN 7 ballers on a 12 man roster then that's pretty deep considering the type of players they recruit. The bottom 5 players would only appear to be vulnerable if they are going up against other teams' starters. The only time we'd see that matchup is when UCONN has already put the game out of reach.
