TxSU FOOTBALL

Texas is fertile for EVERYONE. The competition for the talent is ridiculous. TxSU has some talent but they aren't getting the guys up front that they need and aren't getting the number of good quality transfers a school like TnSU gets, although their best player this season was a Kansas grad transfer WR.

Ummm, we were not getting P5 transfers until Reed arrived.

We also were not putting OL in the NFL until Reed arrived either...

So I still don't get your argument...

PV seems to be doing just fine.

Still don't see the logic in this statement as TX & LA are fertile recruiting grounds.

Reed had to constantly dip into to FL & GA to get the talent he really wanted

Reed also has/had the following:

1. An alumni base that cares to a certain extent
2. An on campus stadium.
3. An NFL stadium (not sure if still used)
4. An indoor practice facility
5. A decent home crowd when players come on visits (depending on opponent)

He will have neither of the 5 at Texas Southern. All 5 of those helps his credibility with recruits.

Winning is the great equalizer...

I think Reed would/could get TXSU to the CB on multiple occasions.

TNSU didn't have a Indoor Facility until Reed arrived and help sell the importance of one and how it would effect recruiting.

The multi/sport stadium they play in is not shabby and not some NFL stadium that looks ridiculous when you only draw between 26K-36K for either homecoming or JMC...

Yeah Reed may be able to get the transfers to TxSU like he did at TnSU. Maybe not. Wouldn't be a bad hire for them but I doubt they win consistently. Just not the nature of the program

Regarding PV...... they last won the west 10 seasons ago even though both SU and Grambling had their worst teams ever at some point during that stretch. Their best teams since then were led by a player from Louisiana but they still didn't win anything.

Reed doesn't have a problem beating HBCU'S...

It's the PWI where he falls short...

After doing some research this is true. It seems the issue may be depth and some offense to stay in the game. Offensively I believe he knows how to beat swac teams. Ya know...by making your offensive more explosive against all of us. I'm not sure many on here realize that. They probably believe us being swac= it's hard in the swac. Ijs...

Sources told FootballScoop Wednesday that Clarence McKinney is the top target to be Haywood’s replacement, and that the job is his if he wants it. McKinney is currently the associate head coach and running backs coach at Arizona and has been a top lieutenant of Kevin Sumlin dating back to Houston. Prior to that, McKinney was a successful head coach in Houston, going 30-8 in three seasons at Yates High School, and prior to that spent close to a decade as an assistant in the Houston area.

Should McKinney not take the job for financial or other reasons, sources indicated the search could turn to Jerry Mack.

Don't fall for the diversion......

Haywood is saying he didn't resign and has the papers to show that stu terminated him.

I can't speak for other organizations but when I was in HR at my last organization we characterized every type separation as a termination, including resignations. But at the end of the day, it doesnt matter. Dude is still going to get 300k through December 2019. For 1.2 million over 4 years, he got us 8 wins and play declined each year.

I wonder how this will play with other potential candidates?

Will TXSU offer McKinney or Mack 300K or better?

Will this possibly change the trajectory of their coaching search or hire?

Just curious, what is Rod Reed getting paid?

We should’ve given him one more year. I can’t comment on his personality, ego or whatever but he did bring discipline and drive that I wasn’t used to seeing from TSU players. He made sure they excelled in just about all areas except for the one area no coaches has has success with in recent time and that’s winning.

I’ll eat my words if the next coach can get this program going but I think we could have made something happen with Haywood.

Haywood get the middle finger, the team worsened every year under his leadership, and TSU administration is dumb. TSU needs someone form out side of academia to somewhat review these matters from a corporate integrity standpoint. It should have been part of his contract like all corporate terminations that you want your money move on and Shut up. Please remember if you say anything seen as detrimental to the organization meaning "you are flapping your lips" you risk forfeiture of future payments due.

Their is no reason for Haywood to have aired this, what was he trying to accomplish? He could have address the team privately and kept it moving. Some are asking how this will impact the perception of Texas Southerns coaching, when the question should be how will the impact Mr. Haywood's future opportunities? Would you hire him, what will he do or say about the next opportunity if it doesn't work out for him. He is a LOOSER as a person and a coach, that is why no one else would touch him with a ten foot pole.

If the team was disciplined and had drive they would have won more games and Haywood would still have a job.
Hawyood had very little to do with the team excelling academically, their is a staff of advisers that handle that.
So you are telling me he could get them to class but not the weight room?
The highlighted portion it what matters! Good Day!

If he says he didn't resign, then he didn't resign.

I know that and didnt dispute it. I provided a perspective from an HR from one organization and reading the letter. Depending on the wording of his contract, if he resigned, he wouldn't be paid through 2019.

I am somewhat surprised by some of my fellow alums. We have not won in football in decades. We have had some experienced and promising coaches hired but to no avail. I think we have to hire someone to coach and as an athletic department stay the planned course to build something prominent a little at a time. It can happen in 4 years but not likely. With continuity from coach to Admin to Exec Admin our chances are better. The last 35 years are a testament to that. We obviously have a problem when over time you are 1 step in front of Mississippi Valley and behind everyone else in football.

Fellow alum, have you been sitting in those stands watching that trash over the last three years? The right choice was made in my opinion. Next year was going to be more of the same or worse with him. His teams digressed every year. Much of what you said has merit historically, but we can't get anchored down by our past if we are going to move forward.
