Tuskegee's Coach Blasts SWAC, says Grambling Should Not Be No. 1

H,

Looking back at my post, I can see where it could be interpreted as smack. That wasn't the intent.

I really don't care about mythical championships either, we beat every team on our schedule (including avenging our lone defeat).
I'm already looking forward to next year and the challenges of defending our championship (again)!

Certainly hope we could get a game with you guys real soon. I grew up on that game and as a child TnSU & JSU were my big rivalry games. Eldridge Dickey and Jefferson Street Joe Gilliams used to hurt my heart when they would beat my beloved Tigers.
Those were some classic matchups regardless of classification!

Did not look at it as being smack - Just showing my support for the GMen.

Dickey,

I thought you were one of the young GMen. I am going to start calling you " Mr. Biggs":D

Definitely ole school. GSU Class of 1977 to be exact!

I grew up in rural North Louisiana (about 98 miles from GSU) in the late 50's (born in '56), 60's and 70's. I started following the GMen when I was around 6yrs old. Our high school
(prior to integration) was 1st thru 12 and every year went to "Literary Rallies" at GSU. Although some of the schools in the area went to SU, most of our faculty were Grambling grads.

Actually, I learned later that some of them were not actually college grads but would work during the school year and enroll during the summer months to get their degrees. Can't take anything away from them cuz they were really some dedicated teachers.

I understand the geographical reasoning behind yall's conference affiliation, but it's sad that so many of our youth who follow BCF aren't aware of the legacy of Big Blue. My oldest son is a big fan of BCF and a bit of a historian. We often talk about the "glory years" of BCF. He has mentioned to me that he would really love to see another matchup of GSU and TnState. Sounds like a game, a father and son could attend together...regardless of where and when!

Mike

I have heard from several people that a game between GSU & TSU is being discussed.

The last game was in Memphis 1993, GSU 33 - TSU 28, attendance 41,669 - Bill "I lost my cap" Davis was the coach. We went 4-7 [still pissed off with Davis]

Beginning of the second half - The GMen, started a fight - five TSU Players were ejected and one of Gram. The SWAC Officals, called a bad game that night.

I hated for TSU to play Gram. I knew it was going to be a cat fight to the end.

What is coach Rob, up to. Is he still the Prez of Gram and the City Mayor.

COMEGY IS A GOOD X & O'S COACH, BUT HE WHINES TOO DAMN MUCH...HE IS ALWAYS WHINING ABOUT SOMETHING...

big giggly, MMHSB,

In addition to whining, Comegy always whips ASU's rear end (every year). When he whines, the nation listens because he is a national figure and a winner (last 24 games- 23-1). When you whine, only SWAC posters are aware. I know you are still upset over that fumigation TU sprayed over Cramton Bowl on 11/22. I cannot locate any flying Hornets.

Skegee with Gram's Schedule

Portland St./TU L
P.V./TU.........W
Alcorn..........W
Jackson ST......L
APBLUFF.........W
Nichols.........L
Texas Southern..W
Southern U......L
A&M.............L
FAMU............L
Bama St.........L (After this shedule your team would have loss players to injuries and also some players would be playing hurt. The game would not be close.)

In D-1AA with no pun intended you woud be a 4-7 ball club.

*****Please note that those 4 wins are not easy wins for TU and can easily be loss; a 2-9 or 3-8 season would not be inconceivable*****

You guys are not a top 5 BCF program.....Sorry

OK, YOU BEAT US...BUT TUSKEGEE WOULD PROBABLY NOT HAVE EVEN BEEN .500 THIS YEAR, IF THEY PLAYED THE SAME SCHEDULE WE DID.....I READ WHERE AARON JAMES SAID YALL COULD BEAT GRAMBLING....AND OF COURSE HE SAID THAT WITH A LITTLE CHUCKLE....FACT IS, 'SKEGEE IS A VERY GOOD DIV II TEAM, NOTHING MORE......YOU WON'T BE BEATING BAMA STATE FOR TOO MUCH LONGER...YALL NEED TO WORRY ABOUT KEEPING YOUR COACH, BECAUSE IF HE LEAVES....'SKEGEE WILL BE BACK TO 2-9!!!!!!

TsU is no longer a HBCU. When referring to TsU please Use an * and say former HBCU.

Tuskegee should move to D1AA and play a full D1AA schedule. In the SWAC, you are lucky to finish the season with the same players you started with. You cannot play a full D1AA schedule and win with 45 scholarships.

SWAC will not have chance when TU moves to 1AA

If TU is this powerful with 36 scholarships, what do you think they will do with 63? Auburn, Alabama and Troy State will come calling!!!! Furthermore, if TU had the same schedule that Grambling had, TU would have 63 scholarships.

TUsports, this is not about feeling, it is about having quality players to replace those who get injuried. You must have played the game to understand this phase of football. Request your team be put into the SWAC, and you will see thing as they really are. During AAMU tenure in the SIAC, scholarships were reduced because, we were the only ones who could afford 55. The conference cut scholarship to bring balance to the SIAC. Therefore this system hurt us and placed us at a disadvantage. OPPS you will never believe the politics, so why should I mention it on the board.

There is no lip service in the SWAC, Coop and Dickerson can tell you that. So if TU think they are ready come on up. The top SIAC Basketball team left the SIAC and joined the SWAC. Our first year, we could not handle the physical play. We did not have the bodies to go head to head every game. We got banged up, but we have imporved a great deal from that first year. You are right the play is on the field.

When discussing Playoffs try counting students at some of these Div 1AA and the amount of dollars generated from student fees.

Mighty Dog,

The SIAC has never reduced the number of scholarships. You are getting the number of scholarships mixed up with the number of players that could dress in a conference game. The SIAC did limit the number of players (55) that could dress when two SIAC schools were playing each other. The NCAA sets the maximum number of scholarships in each classification (0 in d3, 36 in d2, 63 in 1AA and 85 in 1A). Please be advised that over 100 players donned the Crimson and Gold roster in 2001. We generally dressed a maximum of approximately 82 in non-SIAC games. Injuries generally did not affect our team because we had so much quality depth. If you had seen the Golden Tigers in their last 24 games, you could have gained an understanding of what I am conveying here. Injuries occur at all levels of college football. The SWAC is not the only conference that sustain injuries. We had more injuries to occur against Virginia Union that we had against one of your top SWAC teams (Alabama State). Comegy runs an outstanding football program at TU and that is why so many schools are interested in his service. We are going to do all we can to retain him. AAMU would have had a very successful season if Comegy had been their leader (can you read between the line?).

Have a Merry Xmas!!!

I watched this thread for a while. The bottom line is Tuskegee is a good team, no doubt. But if they had to play Gram, Southern, JState, and Ala State they sure would not be 4-0 and would be lucky to come out 2-2. They are not going to beat teams of that caliber every week. They would be just like AAMU (no smack here) When they were not in the swac, it was one thing to jump up and beat Southern or JSU with a lot of "other games" filling the schedule. It is a whole new world when it is a war every week and these team come lookiing for you. IF Tuskegee played a similar schedule to Grambling, Southern or Jackson State, they would have at least 3 losses, and we would not be having this conversation. Get over it.

Lewis, we understand the game of football and I have no problem with your assessment of AAMU. Our next coach may understand the SWAC is no push over.

TUsports, based on the information you provided, you must be Comegy or one of the coaches on the TU Staff.

Let me assure you that Comegy will never walk the sidelines at AAMU. Seeking his service and actually getting a big time job is two different things. I don't believe he can coach at the D1AA level. Most people who don't know the history of the rivilary that exist in Alabama will not understand the matchups between Tuskegee, Alabama St., Miles College and Alabama A&M.

So those of us who know it does not make any difference what conference these school are in when we play each other.

you guys should give credit where credit is due. congrats grambling for winning the swac. congrats tuskegee for winning the siac. virginia union and famu for winning yours (ciaa & meac). but lets get real, every conference has a have's and a have not's. the swac have ( southern, grambling and this year bama state) but over all the swac was average. the same can be said about all black conferences.

TU is that powerful with 36 scholarships!! <b>Please!!</b> You all are a Division 2 team playing in a lack-luster conference!! If you all brought those 36 scholarship players plus the 27 extra for 63 <b>and you all still couldn't do anything!!</b>
Yall are talking like you beat big time schools week in and week out!! You all play <b>one 1-AA school a year!!</b> Anybody can luck up!! Even the sun shines on a dog's arse!!
Beat upper level schools <b>every week</b> and then you can call yourself champs!! I guess what I'm trying to say is:

STEP UP TO 1-AA AND LET'S SEE WHAT YOU ARE REALLY MADE OF!!!

Don't sell Tuskegee short. They have a very good program and a really good coach. I think that their schedule helps them, but regardless of the level they are finishing 10-1, 11-1, etc on a regular basis.

Now about the 36 scholarships. That's a bit misleading. Comegy's is probably splitting those scholarships into partials.
I'm sure he has several transfers who are on partial scholarships with Pell grant assistance. It happens. If he holds out 4 scholarships, that can be split up equally to 8 players. The scholarship pays half and the student can get financial aid (Pell grant) to make up the difference.

With the years he has been coaching and the contacts, I'm sure he knows where some talented players are who will come in for one or two years and play for a winning program. Plus with Tuskegee's academic legacy, why not!

But the best way to end the speculation is to schedule the SWAC frontrunners. However, I wouldn't do that. If he is getting the attendance figures he needs, winning the TDC, and the Pioneer Bowl, why risk playing too many SWAC schools. I would like to see the rest of the SIAC and CIAA schools make the same strides as Tuskegee and come up to D1AA. Then we all could look at scheduling interconference games against some geographical
rivals.

BTW===> Congrats Skegee on the Pioneer Bowl!

MB, could you explain why they have that old man playing fullback? Maybe there are several more over thirty on the team.

I know you wish that was a true statement. In that way you can justify - why TSU continue dominate A&M. You know that statement - will cost A&M a serious beatdown on your homecoming.:D Remember JSU made the same statement last season and you see what happen to them.

Do not try to apologize - I have already e-mailed this to the football team.

Dr. H

H, do I have to put up with your Republican logic, only Republicans have it both ways.

BCF is played by the SWAC. Because you have so many alumni who went to TSU before the * the SWAC will not desert your old fans. We want you to maintain your heritage by agreeing to play you all. We will treat you to some good old fashion football when you come back to Normal.

The ballgame counts for 50% and our tailgate count for 50%, so we will always have a half of good time.

H,

Leave JSU outta this. You know as well as anyone that JSU is the one team that will get in yo school's arse.
