TSU vs PV basketball rematch

But even back when I was in school, I don't remember tsu ever having a true home court advantage whenever PV came to the H&PE arena.

PV didn't beat us in H&PE/Adams when you were in school, I was in school or East Tex Tiger was in school.

PV beat tsu by 20+ in 98 at the H&PE arena. I'm talking about fan support here. I've never known tsu students to really support the team (and tsu had good teams). If the PV game happened in Houston while both schools were in session, the crowd would be 50/50 at best.

Quick Imput on the Hugee/Johnson debate. They clearly are 1-2 in our confrence. They both offer 2 diff dynamics on the court. Johnson is tough as nails and an unselfish guy. But PUH-LEASE kill that NBA talk. Athleticism is nowhere where it needs to be(a la Trey Johnson and he was a beast!!!!!) (And Trey made it because he was top 5 scoring in the nation)

It pains me to hear that JSU guys rationale on Hugee being undersized, so ****in what. You DO realized a young man named Dajuan Blair from Pitt last year ripped up everyone and he stood a whopping 6'7" as well. Height don't mean chit if you can ball. Truth be told Hugee has put up numbers on high major schools as well.

I'd say there is no clear-cut best... Something tells me it'll be interesting in the Baby Dome next Saturday.

P.S. Try not to judge a player off 1-2 games.. Ye might make an arse of yeself...

Storm, you are somewhat right, but I would advise you that Texas Southern is still a commuter campus while Prairie View is a traditional campus. Thus, the demographics of the students differ with respect to the age and interest of the students. Many of Prairie Views students are college age and reside on campus. I would venture to say that about half or more of Texas Southern's students or working parents and a little older than college age. Succinctly, they have their hands tied up with other interest than worrying about sports on any level. It would be good to see more fans in the seats though.

sfallstar I respect what your saying....and your right about Johnson's lack of athletism...he is not the type to BLOW past you and finish with a highlight reel dunk but as far as the swac goes and when you ask ho in the swac is what you would consider to be a nba prospect then you must conclude Johnson and have him near the top if not at the top of the list he is a 6'6 guard that can play smallforward....Hugee is 6'7 and is nothing but a powerforward playing center in a weak swac conference that lacks size and depth at that position. I don't exactly worry about Hugee vs us because we have 4 bodies that we will put on him....6'10 Gartavian Blake,6'10 Raymond Gregory, 6'9 Oliver Jefferson and 6'5 Cason Burk who will specialize in our pressure defense. I would love to see Grant Maxey detroy him...Maxey is flatout a better basketball player, maxey would take this guy out!!! Johnson is a shooter that nobody in the swac has yet to have stopped...He earned the respect of everybody outside of the conference and they made other guys beat them and u saw the results...0-10

But your agrunent fains when you say he does good only in the SWAC. Go look at the high majors we've played over the past 2 seasons & you might be surprised... And trust me, you'll never see a Hugee/ Maxey matchup. Maxey is too quick 4 him & Hugee would crush him down low.

I agree. It's time to flip this game and let us play the 1st game (during winter break) in the Babydome.

It needs to go back to the way it use to be when this game would be at the mid point and end of the season. That's where it should be and stay with this being a rivalry game and the schools less than 50 miles from eachother

Blasphemy........thats what the othe folks from stu would say if they heard you say those words.

What did he lie about? I see nothing incorrect with what he said. About 11% of our students live on campus (Greystone, Lanier East/West, Tierwester Oaks).

TSU had the February game last year...drew pretty well...

if the schedule stays the same...lets keep it like that...you're guaranteed a February sellout at PV and a string PV crowd in Houston in January

it used to be end of the year, then back-to-back (Saturday/Tuesday) and now early...

This PV game would draw minumum of 6500 when it was played during school and we had good teams. The crowd were not 50/50. Lets be realistic. Back then there was not a lot of reason for PV Folks to come to the games.

I applaud PV in its current state, just hope we can get back.

Great atmosphere. There are a lot of TSU alums who do not want this type of atmosphere at TSU. I hear complaints all the time about the music and other hype. I say let the kids have fum.

I don’t have a problem with kids having fun as long as it’s tastefully done. I can do without all the F you I heard at the game on Saturday. Both TSU and PV students were saying F you, but I feel it was being encouraged by the particular songs being played. I stood near Hugee after the game; he’s 6’5â€￾ at best. I wish he played for the Tigers because that boy is a BEAST.

Our fans come to the game funky fresh dressed and ready for the party or club after the game. PV fan’s come to the game in blue jeans and t-shirt and half drunk and real hype.

different breed of kids now...TSU fans have 8,100 seats to fill so the diehards better accept if a DJ means putting bodies in the stands, then so be it..with 2 p.m. starts also, you better really accept it

in PV's case...campus growth has coincided with winning now so the kids who are matriculating through campus now know nothing but wins which carries over to future classes to the point that they must be at the games because it's a place to be seen

if the frat/soror stuff was resolved....just imagine the atmosphere

I don't have a problem with a DJ. All I'm saying is some songs shouldn't be played; like "Let Me See It" by UGK (PV didn't play that song the other night). But, they did play songs I felt shouldn't be played.

Just a quick input there was a game back in maybe 04 or 03 that was standing room anly at TSU VS PVU I think both teams were doing pretty well Redmond was the PG. I think that game was last game of ther year?

That had to be like 04. HPE was PACKED!!! Standing room only, and there were a LOT of people on the floor behind the basket, including what seemed like 100 Que's...LOL...I wanna say that game went to OT.

It went to double overtime. Our Ra'Kim Hollis had the flu and still put the team on his shoulders to take it over.

03....the suits thought that atmosphere would carry over to Toyota Center in 04 and 05.....never did....pro facilities and SWAC Football/Basketball in Houston does not mix

Timmons was the PG...as CLEB mentioned Hollis was sick, but he went off for about 40.

Man, I remember that game and the atmosphere like it was yesterday. I knew we were witnessing something special when the first shot attempt was missed and Rakhim Hollis and A. Lovett were so amped up on adrenaline their verticles were 6 to 8 inches hire than their norm on the rebound attempt. That game is a permanent fixture of my memory. Both schools and the community represented on that day.
