Transfer Portal 14

I think some of athletes jump in the transfer portal without thinking things all the way through and looking at the big picture. I fear many will end up without the finances available to complete their education. Sometimes we need to encourage kids to blossom where they are. In many cases they are getting their education paid for where they are....and entering the portal may jeopardize that fact if they do not find a new school willing to do the same. In some cases the athletes can graduate with 2 years eligibility remaining and still play at another school. I think of athletes like Jalen hurts...who could have been in his feelings and left Alabama before graduating but he got his degree first...then moved on.

The athlete needs to have their education as a top priority (and put in the work in the classroom while they are on scholarship), then make the portal work for them. This is where proper guidance is needed for athletes prior to entering the portal so they are not left with nothing to show for their time in school. (No degree nor a good college athletic experience)

Just off the guys who left Valley since 2018 (Payne's last year), I think only 2 ended up on D1 teams and one of those never played and was a walk on (think that number will jump after all the transfers this year land somewhere).

A lot don't see the bigger picture and think that just because they are D1 starters at Valley, TxSU, AAMU, etc. means that they will be D1 starters somewhere else

I understand but what if it is some poor kid that can’t finish his education. I hope as schools revoke scholarships they find grants to allow them to get their degree, which is the promise by all coaches during recruitment.

No different than what goes on in the real world at jobs when they let employees go. Collegiate Athletics is a business at the end of the day.

These are STUDENT ATHLETES not professionals in the real world. You must have grown up with a wealthy family. A very small percentage of college football players become pros even smaller for HBCU athletes. The first promise is education……

There you go HUE zip em !!! Hell !!! follow the volley ball coach… zip the whole wr core for dropping them balls during the spring game…. Don’t worry you can put Jesus, the Holy Spirit , and the Holy Ghost out there… somebody will catch it.

Actually I grew up the complete opposite which is why I know what I’m talking about. Also, Look at what you said, they’re STUDENTS first which means we are preparing and educating them for the real world as well. That very small percentage of college players going to the pros is even more reason for them to be prepared for the real world and how cold it actually is or can be. Ain’t nobody out here keeping folks that aren’t contributing to their business. If your job is, I know y’all ain’t gone be around long.

That's why I intentionally forget some names..just show me the final roster in August!

You are right and had to get reminded of this in the fall when we looked like we finally found a QB with the UTEP transfer only for him to basically redshirt himself last fall which basically made Dancy get the EMCC QB
