Top BCF Pro Prospects

Rashean Mathis BCC-One of the best db's in the nation regardless of level.He had a record 14 picks in 2002 eventhough opposing teams knew who to avoid him.Scouts have him listed at 6'1 185lbs with 4.55 speed but he plays in the 4.3 range.If he can bulk up about 15 lbs without losing a step he could play safety as well.He has good hands and excellent coverage skills.His ability to adjust to the speed of the NFL will determine and a solid combine should make him a 1st rounder.

Michael Hayes SU-He is the type of reciever scouts salivate over with the lethal combination of size,speed,and hands.Hayes has been one of the most productive players at this position holding his own against former 1st rounder Rashard Anderson in 99 and basically anyone he's lined up against.His only setback was a season ending knee injury in 2001.He is definitely a 1st round talent.

Damian Walker BSU-Solid DT who has very effective against both the pass and the run.He is a very consistent player that does a god job of coming off the line and tracking down the qb or rb.He gets a good burst from the point of attack and spends more time in the backfield than opposing offense.

Tracy White HU-Intense LB with sideline to sideline intensity.He has a motor that never stops and plays every down like the first.With 4.5 speed some scouts will probably overlook his lack of lb size at 5'11 and 225lbs.He looks like a Dexter Coakley Dat Ngyuen typs small on size and big on heart.

Elgin Andrews JSU- A solid player on what had been a lackluster defense.Andrews like White has a good motor and has a knack for making the play.He is a steady performer and a good tackler with good size and speed.

Drayton Florence TU- Florence is one half of one of the best cb duos in all of BCF.A solid and consistent performer with 5 picks and a mere 16 yds per game recieving yds allowed.Scouts say he could be as good as former standout db Roosevelt Williams.

7.Jeffrey Stanton-Arguably the better of the 2 TU db's also has 5 picks and a mere 4 yds per game recieving yds allowed.With 4.4 speed and a good workout he will definitely be a high draft pick.

Chris Brown GSU-The next in line from a long tradition of great Grambling ball players.Brown is a solid db with good speed.He will probably be a second day pick btu he will definitely help wherever he goes.

Denmark Reed GSU- Yet another fine db from GSU that has the scouts attention with 6vpicks and a td.He has the size and speed and has played against NFL recievers.
 
What about Robert Mathis and Jamal Ware of AAMU? Both got a lot of attention from the pro scouts during the season.

This is my initial list I will add more when I get back in town.There are plenty more prospects where these came from.

Since this is not the smack board, tell us why Andrews should HONESTLY be a higher pick than Mathis or Ware.

Mathis most definitely will get a look. I don't know about Ware. Mathis may have to move to LB. Ware maybe too undersized and may get picked up as a free agent.

Andrews will have to show he has speed at the combine. Alot of leading tacklers in the SWAC over the years have got no love from the NFL. I can't remember the LB's name that JSU had a few years ago that I thought was a shoe in. He was more devasting than Andrews and had more speed. Then the kid at Valley that led the SWAC in tackles got no love and none of the GSU Lbs either. So it will be interesting. Michael Hayes injury and him not having a monster year this year will caus ehim to be a 3rd round type pick. Someone will get a steal in him. Cortez Hankton should get a look as well.

The NFL has soured on the SWAC of late. Plus the last few picks Anderson, Morris, and Wesley have not been able to produce so that don't help matters. Kind of like how folks view any Rb that comes from Penn State. Hopefully the SWAC and other HBCUs will represent. We need some new blood to pick up where the Aneas Williams, Robert Porcher's, Steve McNair's and others have left off.

Ware and Mathis are undersized for their positions. Pro DEs are 270 pounds or more and have to protect against the run. I believe Mathis is around 225-230.....thats safety size in the NFL. He may be asked to bulk up and move to outside LB.

Ware is undersized also for his position. The guy might make a good strong safety in the league though. Like JR said, he could possibly get a shot at a free agent contract...dude can hit for his size.

This is the Sports Board but I have to say it. The other reason they are not getting the look is.....well.....damn it....I cant do it either.

notice you and your friend TP are the only people tryin to make little typical hating arse comments! I dont recall Bison 2k2 being the NFL expert besides the dude never said that Mathis wasnt getting any looks......

I surely hope Robert Kent gets looked at as much as you "scout" his azz
 
Dont take yourself so seriously big cat. As much as you sling dirt towards JSU, you should welcome a lil backlash...dont you think. Just go to the JSU coaches thread for an example.

At any rate.....this is the sports board and the truth shall prevail.

Andrews may be too slow to play in the NFL. He has desire, but most LBs in the NFL can cover from sideline to sideline.

I agree with Get Ready.... if Mathis was to go to pro he would probably move to a line backer position. Him being a DE was fit to AAMU's defensive scheme using quickness over size.
 
I believe Cortez Hankton will get drafted. He's been to the Raiders camp the weekend following the last game of the season as well as New England.

He runs precise routes, excellent hands, speedy, decent size (6'0" 190 lbs) and great RAC numbers had 1,270 yards for 64 receptions.

Lenard Mack and Oliver Celestin will go as free agents.
 
I think Chris Brown and Hayes will be the top SWAC draftees. I was really impressed with Mack's speed and tenacity.

Mathis will have to make the transition to outside linebacker, but in the right scheme he could do well. In the blitzing 3-4 scheme of a team like Pittsburg, he would probably thrive.

I hope they all do well!
 
Joseph Crear DT MVSU- at 6'2 and 265 he could be moved to end at the next level.H e could bulk up and remain in the middle but he could more of a pass rushing threat on the end at the next level.He will need to have some outstanding workouts to go on the first day.

Robert Mathis DE/LB-He will have to play lb at the nest level due to his size 6'2 225lbs.If he can add 10lbs of muscle without losing a step he will be drafted.He is a tenacious player with a good motor as well as a knack for making the play.

Cortez Hankston TXSU WR- a solid and highly productive wr and one of the lone brightspots in what has been a disappointing season for TexSou.With an average of 19.7 yards per catch and over 1,000 recieving yards.He will get a good long look.

Kris Peters ALCSU WR-a productive reciever with 14.5 yds per catch.He may remind some of Donald Driver.He is the perfect small college sleeper with modest yet productive numbers.

Randy Williams SU DB- one of the brightspots on an improved SU defense.He had a productive season in a conference and school known for producing NFL caliber DB'S.He had 5 picks last season and the scouts are probably hoping he will be the next Aneas Williams.
