Tony Cole Ain't Lying...

Someone may have said it. But I will bet that he is mad that he is not in the NBA. So he doing what he "feels" that he has to do. And that is take someone down because he did not succeed.

If he keeps up this act, he will be someone's wife in Angola. It could have been Reidsville, Alto or Hardwick if he was convicted in Georgia.

Just my $1.54.
Don't count on it, Just like his high school teammate Lester Earl, Lester was the one mainly responsible for LSU's probation, but he went straight to Kansas and continued playing for the Jayhawks. One thing for sure, Tony can play, so there is probably some school that will take a chance on him, they will just send cash instead of a western union (read: no reciept)

THe other player was Cory Powell.

.....

Cole said that Young "gave me like $100 or $200 at different times." And he said that he wasn't the only Georgia player to benefit from Young's generosity.

"Are you kidding me? The guys were over to his house to eat steak just last week, a couple of players," Cole said.

Cole said he does not feel bad for accepting money and gifts while playing basketball for Georgia.

"I never looked at it or never even thought about it as me doing anything wrong by accepting anything," Cole said. ". . . I've got a gift. My talent sells. When you play in sports, the more you do, the better things you get. You do good and you're about to get drafted, you get an Escalade, you get a new truck. . . . I've never looked at it as doing anything wrong."

Ex-UGA player pins more charges on Harrick and staff

Harrick jr and UGA is going doing......more stuff coming to light about this.

March 2, 2003
ATLANTA (AP)
-- Former Georgia player Tony Cole used the personal credit card of coach Jim Harrick to buy a television, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sunday.

Cole, who was interviewed by the newspaper in Baton Rouge, La., also said Mike Young, whom he called a Georgia basketball booster, gave him as much as $900 in the past few years, including a $300 shopping spree at a mall.

Cole claimed that other Georgia basketball players currently on the team have received improper benefits from Young and others.

Earlier in the week, Cole told ESPN that Bulldogs assistant coach Jim Harrick Jr. paid part of his expenses and committed academic fraud. The younger Harrick was suspended Friday, pending an investigation of the charges.

Claude Felton, the school's associate athletic director, had not heard about the latest revelations when he was reached at home late Saturday night.

``Any allegations that are made will be thoroughly investigated by the University of Georgia, in cooperation with the SEC and the NCAA,'' Felton said.

Cole played 16 games with the Bulldogs in the 2001-2002 season, but he was kicked off the team after being charged with aggravated assault with intent to rape. The charge was later dismissed.

Harrick spoke briefly about the allegations against his son Friday, and said he was ``confident that we'll come to a swift and positive answer to all of these questions.''

Cole's at home, 'laying low'

By CHIP TOWERS
Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer

Baton Rouge, La. -- Tony Cole makes no attempt to hide his motivation for blowing the whistle on Georgia's basketball program. It is, he freely admits, an act of revenge.

And where he comes from, that's just the way of the world.

Cole grew up mostly on the north side of this southeast Louisiana city, in an area known as Delmont Place. It's the tough part of town, where income and property values are low and unemployment and crime are high.

The word "mostly" is necessary because Cole has lived in different houses in different hamlets all over this area, in Zion City, in North Highlands and in Scotlandville, to name a few. He has lived with friends, with relatives and in the homes of various teammates he has had over the years.

Cole's father is dead and his mother is in a mental institution, hence his cynical laugh when asked if he has anything in the way of a permanent address. Where he is living right now, Cole won't say.

"My personal life, my living and everything, I think that's all personal right now," he said. "I'm fine. That's all you need to know."

The house on Hollywood Street where he spent the majority of his childhood is no longer there. It was condemned and razed many years ago, Cole said.

On the tiny corner lot where the house once stood is a trailer. Not a double-wide or even a single-wide. It's one of those camper types, old and weathered and sitting unevenly on blocks on the overgrown lot.

Sitting on the cinderblock steps outside the trailer are an elderly man and woman whom Cole identifies only as "Auntie" and "Uncle." He declines to give their real names because he says he doesn't want to shame them.

They stay outside most of the time, he says, because there is no power inside the trailer. The woman is obviously happy to see Cole and she runs up to greet him. The man nods hello but never stops working on the rear wheel of a bicycle, which is turned upside down in front of him.

Cole chats with them for only a short while, then hands them $2 each and hugs them before he leaves.

"I don't give them much or they'll go get beer with it," Cole explains.

Cole's slipping money to the elderly couple rings familiar. For it is Cole's claims that Georgia coaches and boosters slipped him money that has the Bulldogs' basketball program in such turmoil these days.

The basketball program is now under investigation after Cole's claims late last week that Georgia head coach Jim Harrick and his assistant coach/son, Jim Harrick Jr., provided him and other Georgia players with money and merchandise and committed academic fraud to gain and maintain Cole's academic eligibility.

Harrick and others involved have denied Cole's claims.

"They did it to themselves," Cole says of Georgia's troubles back in Athens.

While the storm of controversy rages back in Georgia, Cole is "laying low." An admitted basketball gypsy, Cole is plotting his next move. He says he'd like to continue playing, if not in college then possibly as a professional, possibly overseas.

"My career is just beginning," he insists. "Every level you have to start over anyway. As long as you have the will to become better, you always can. Once you give up -- and I could of gave up a long time ago -- that's it. I'm not going to do that. I'm a winner."

Cole claims he is still academically eligible to play college basketball and would have two years remaining if another school would be willing to take a chance on him. But it's unlikely Cole will get that opportunity. After attending two high schools, three prep schools, two junior colleges and, finally, Georgia, most believe Cole has run out of chances.

"The last thing I told Tony is I'm not going to help him [anymore]; the University of Georgia is your last chance," said former LSU coach Dale Brown, whose charitable foundation provides funds for the education of underprivileged persons and did so for Cole. "If you blow it at Georgia, it's over." According to Harrick, Cole blew it at Georgia. He suspended the 5-foot-10 point guard when he was charged with aggravated assault with intent to rape last season, reinstated Cole after those charges were dropped, but then declined to let him practice or play after that because of "issues" believed to be related to academics and attitude. Harrick finally dismissed him from the team before this season.

Cole says he'll survive even if he never plays basketball again. His number one goal in life, he said, is to own a home in Baton Rouge. He said he goes to the local courthouse weekly, looking for properties with liens against them that he might be able to buy cheap.

While Cole comes from an impoverished background, he knows where and how to find money. He drives a late-model silver Cadillac, which he purchased with the money he received from his father's death on a construction site six years ago. He said he also gets government assistance as a result of his mother's situation, and he said he applies for other funds from government sources.

"You know that guy on TV that dresses up in a clown suit and says the government is just dying to give you free money, he knows what he's talking about," Cole says, grinning.

Cole said he would have never turned in Georgia had Harrick done just one thing after Cole was cleared wrongdoing in a criminal case in Athens.

"All he had to do was let me play," Cole says. "Just one more year. He wouldn't even have to pick up the fifth year because I was going to graduate before that anyway. Just one more year. But [Harrick] wanted to show [athletics director] Vince Dooley and all the people that he can deal with Tony Cole, that he can [expletive] on Tony Cole."

What wrong with the people from Baton Rouge? Truly a different breed. Must be something in that toxic water.

He's got to be joking!

He may play...it just won't be for any college team. He'd have to go overseas for anyone to even look at him twice!

My computer's been down but now I'm back:

A good discussion and a lot of contrasting views. The most seem to be saying that TC is wrong for what he did. I agree but I'm glad he's doing it. You see the only way you're gonna stop these type things is not to punish the Tony Cole's but get the goods on the Jim Harrick's of the basketball world. The articles are delving into Tony's background and showing sides of him that most would find deplorable. Yeah there's a lot of cfuked up stuff he's pulled. And he concentrates on "getting over"...(not the way to go). But this is the result from years of being able to get by.
The same can be said of Jim Harrick. How can any of you condemn Cole's character but dismiss the Harrick's actions as being the way it is in the basketball world? Well, Tony's get over attitude is also the way it is in his real world. Neither should be accepted as status quo. I would like to see every kid that's taken an illegal gift or favor from these pimp programs start singing like Tony Cole. I realize Tony ain't trying to clean things up...he's getting revenge. Be that right or wrong, I'm soooo happy that he is singing on them. Sure Tony knew the game and Harrick and Vince Dooley under-estimated him or just figured since so many people tend to look the other way (just like most of you) that they could get away with it. I just don't see how yall expect Tony to be noble when the so-called authority figures are con men just like him. He hustled the Harricks and they hustled him and the system. Now it's time for them to get pulled down just like he is...I even hope they find out that Vince Dooley is tainted to. He's just as guilty too because just like Harrick knew of Cole's reputation...likewise Dooley knew about Harrick's.

Mike Bigg, do you honestly think with kids blowing the whistle it would stop anything? Really?

As long as there's BIG money to be made on the NCAA level, BIG programs will continue to have boosters spend BIG money to win. Coaches at BIG programs will continue to do what they do, because they know their BIG contract depends on winning.

Whining proves nothing, but the kid is a punk. Don't whine when it's over, whine when it counts. Like when you're still in school receiving gifts, when you're being recruited, and gifts are offered.

I see what you mean when you say Harrick is guilty though, if I played for a coach, and he kept me out of jail on 2 different sexual assault charges in 2 different states, bailed me out of financial binds, paid my bills, gave me money to go on shopping sprees, and other incidentals. I would rat on that no good muthaphugga too. Sumbeyotch. Who does he think is doing schit like that?

The only thing Harrick is really guilty of, is taking a chance on a kid who's been nothing but trouble everywhere he's gone.

Just my .02

NICE

Dayum MB....I still can't believe that you are going to be naive enough to believe that because Tony Cole is talking that something is going to change in basketball? Come on man, Tony Cole is only going to hurt himself, Harrick, and maybe UGA. You don't think Jim Harrick and UGA are going to bounce back? The question is, will Tony Cole survive this. See if he were as smart as he thinks he is, he would have thought about all of that before he ran to the media. But his little feelings were hurt. We are always crying for sports stars not to get extra perks. TC got perks, but when the perks stopped, and he was out there on his own, then he wants to play Martin laurence and RUNTELDAT.

Tony is a punk. He is the kind of dude that gets lines snatched when cats pledge, after they decide they want to quit, they run and tell all. It takes nothing to blow the whistle after the fact. This kid is on National TV braging to the world that he is a punk and a rat, that he is dumb as all get out, and helping sell every stereotype that people have of black atheletes.

In no way am I absolving Harrick, but Cole doesn't deserve a free pass. For what? You explain to me how he is the victim here? Because he had a rough life? So what, many people grew up in tough situations, but they survived, and I am sick of people using everything from their past to justify when they do some uckfed up isht as an adult. Those are excuses. And Cole now wants to blame everyone else for the position that he put himself in.

If I were Harrick I would be pissed too. I put my arse on the line for this kid. I put my family and lively hood on the line to help this kid. And then he stabs me in the back like this?

Its one thing to tell the truth, but its another to tell the truth only because you are mad because you could no longer get over. Tony Cole isn't noble in his actions. He isn't doing any of this to try and right the wrongs. He is doing this simply out of spite. And I can't condone any man not being smart and logical enough to think and not react based on his emotions and how he feels. That is a female trait, and TC is a punk!

So what was Tony Cole supposed to do, let Harrick get away with betraying him. I realize he caused a lot of his problems! Blame Tony Cole for the sexual assault, blame Tony Cole for being a hustler, blame Tony Cole for whatever the fugg you see fit. I don't have a problem with that. But I'm soooooo glad that he's rolling over on Jim Harrick. Suge you said all that Harrick did for Cole. Bruh don't be sooo naive. Harrick did that isht for Harrick! He could give less than a dayum about what happens to Tony Cole. He just so a super quick point guard that could drain a jump shot from all over the court. Trust me, this dude has more basketball ability than any of the top collegiate point guards in the country. Those who have played against him or seen him can attest to that. If Harrick was so concerned about TC, why didn't he keep him in Georgia and help him find work until he could try out with a pro league. Once Vince Dooley told him "get rid of that nicca" it was "isht on you Tony Cole". Well, he picked the wrong cat. Tony is the type that thinks: If you isht on me...don't get mad when I have the diahrea on you!

Tell me honestly...if you and your immediate supervisor were getting some form of kick backs associated with your job and when the isht hit the fan and the supervisor tells you, "Hey man, the heat is coming down so I gotz to let you go!", I bet the singing would be louder than the a mofo.

Hell, Nice I realize it ain't gonna stop just because TC spilled the beans on Jim Harrick. But it will get Harrick's azz and possibly cost Georgia a few million in sanctions. I dayum sure hope so!
Tony knew what he was doing and it caught up with him...Jim Harrick knew what he was doing and it's caught up with him...the only thing I regret is that the scandal ain't quite deep enuff to get Vince Dooley's sanctimonius (check the spelling cuz I ain't got time) azz who sits in his ivory tower.

The dummy in this was Harrick. All he had to do was find a place for Cole or arrange some type of tryout with a minor league or European league. I agree that Tony needs to grow up and straighten up...but most of us have never had to deal with what he dealt with. Does his past experience justify the things he's done? HELL NO, but until some of us have walked his walk who can say what we would have done. Yeah, I'm biased cuz I know Tony and want to see him make it...not so much as a basketball player but as a man. In a lot of cases he has been his worst enemy...but I understand where he's coming from in this instance. I would probably handled it differently, but then again I'm not Tony Cole and neither are the rest of you!

I pretty much agree with Suge. Cole did not have a problem when he had his hand out while at Georgia. He did not seem to mind taking. So I do not blame Jobe for refusing to take him. This is a case of where Cole needs to look himself in the mirror.

Harrick seems to be the guy who will win at any cost. Winning at any cost will usually get one a loss in the end. If Harrick is guilty he will be gone.

As long as we have in this country where brothers are taught sports before academics, we will see something like this in the future. We will see it especially with the big money that exist in sports. It is time that we teach our kids what is really important (books before sports.)

He is still a rat, a punk, and a fink.

See MB, in your example, would I take my supervisor down with me? Hell yes. You know why, because in that case he would be trying to use me as the scapegoat. That was not the case with Cole. He dug himself a hole. Harrick booted him, he got pissed, he started crying. A scapegoat is a victim.....Cole is no victim.

See Cole was involved in a partenership. He plays well, Harrick keeps his job, and Harrick helps cole out. Problem is that Cole forgot to keep his end of the bargian. Yes Harrick used this kid, but you can't tell me this kid wasn't using Harrick. But Cole forgot to keep his end of the deal. He couldn't control himself, he couldn't stay out of trouble, but all the while he wasn't playing ball either. If I am Harrick, why should I continue to help him? What exactly would he be doing for me? Nothing! Its Harricks job to get him a try out, why? He hasn't done anything but cause trouble.

See if Harrick was being looked at, and he put all of the drama on Cole. Then I would applaud him for speaking out. But there was no pressue on Harrick, he didn't kick Cole off the team because of pressue. He kicked him off because he is a punk and he couldn't stay out of trouble! To use your example. If my super and I are getting over, but I start to get greedy. Then I start to get into trouble, and casuing problems not just for me and my super but the entire staff, and my super fires me for that, what can I do. I guess I am supposed to run and tell everything because I forgot to pull my own weight in the partnership? That's what TC did.

Cole got mad when Harrick cut him, like a revengeful woman after her boyfriend dumps her. But I guess TC couldn't scrath Harricks car and slash his tires, so he decides that he will just scratch his man hood and slash his image.

hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, or a punk arse basketballplayer after he gets kicked off the team.

Damn Mike Bigg,
You may be too close to this situation, cause some of the stuff you're saying is kinda far out there bruh.

How did Harrick "betray" Cole? Hell, Cole's arse wasn't doing schit as far as going to class or making the grades. Coming on the heels of the rape allegation (which I'm willing to bet Harrick and UGA used their influence there in Athens to "get" those charges dropped), just how much more should Cole have been allowed to get over. At some point, you have to put your foot down with this kid. That's probably hasnt happened enough. Maybe that's why he felt "betrayed" :smh:
Even after all the "goods" he got, he felt "betrayed" when they said no mas.

And Cole may be talented as you say, but it wasn't like he was UGA's best player, or second best. I don't even think he was a starter, but it seems you're agreeing with Cole that all Harrick had to do was let him play. At any and all cost, just let him play.

In his "effort" to get revenge and bring UGA down, this kid has hurt himself too. Maybe he felt so "betrayed" that he didn't mind cutting off his own nose.
And now he's wanting somebody else to take yet another chance on him.
:( :(

It's so sad.

The hell you say...Harrick booted Cole because Dooley was questioning the Hotel bills and other expenses. When the rape charges were dropped, the only athlete not allowed back was Tony Cole. Harrick wasn't trying to "do the right thing", he was making Tony Cole the scapegoat. Like I said on another related thread, ain't no honor among thieves. Harrick didn't want Dooley on his azz so he bounced Cole.

You earlier compared this to a wannabe who starts to pledge, decides to quit and then squeals to the powers that be. This is not the same at all. Cole didn't quit, he got booted. If your dp had decided to kick you from your line and not allow you to continue, would you have just accepted that. If your local big brothers told your dp..."Drop that dude from yall line" he's been "talking too much" would you just accept your banishment?
I honestly think you would, but I'm sure you could see where a lot of folk would not. Does that make them a punk or just a person who believes in retaliation.

It looks like we are gonna have to just disagree on this one. I still feel that too many of you are seeing only one side of this. Since it's obvious you are too stubborn and ignant to change your mind to my right way of thinking, I'll just end my post. Since we both got old unsettled issues with each other anyway, I'll just chill for now.

Player's benefactors recognize a pattern

By CHIP TOWERS
Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer

Baton Rouge, La. -- The actions Tony Cole took against Jim Harrick and the Georgia basketball program fit into a familiar pattern established by Cole over the years, according to people close to him.

Boosters, boarders, coaches and counselors who have dealt with Cole say the former basketball star has a penchant for turning on those who have done the most for him.

"Tony is a survivor, but when things don't go right for Tony, he has a tendency to say he's been wronged," said Jacqulin Jacobs, whose family took in Cole on at least two occasions. "My opinion is these people [Georgia] went out of their way to help him, and he turned against them."

Cole has charged that Harrick, his son/assistant coach Jim Harrick Jr. and Georgia boosters provided him with money, gifts and unauthorized academic assistance while Cole played basketball for the Bulldogs. The school has launched an investigation into the allegations.

Jacobs said she doesn't doubt that the Harricks tried to help Cole; many people have. But she said she thinks the course Cole has chosen is wrong.

"I think he has repaid these people's kindness with vindictive behavior," Jacobs said.

Cole lived with Roy and Jacqulin Jacobs for several months in the late 1990s. At the time, their son, Roy Jr., played basketball with Cole at Glenn Oaks High School, where they won two state basketball championships.

But the Jacobs weren't willing to take in Cole again when he returned to Baton Rouge recently.

"As of late, it hasn't been the best of experiences for me with Tony," said Jacobs, who owns a spacious two-story home in a nice neighborhood in Zion City. "He came here last week, and he didn't want to hear what I had to say. I guess I have a problem with people trying to help him and then him paying them back by trying to ruin their lives. I don't want to say anything to hurt Tony, but this is a pattern with him."

Jacobs said Cole left Glenn Oaks after a run-in with coach Harry Alger, who was trying to get the player to attend his classes and make it to practices on time. Cole transferred to a private school after his sophomore season.

Former LSU coach Dale Brown had similar experiences with Cole. His foundation has provided Cole with more than $10,000 in assistance over the years. But Brown said he will no longer help Cole, now 23.

"I don't think Tony conned me, but sometimes I'm not sure," Brown said Monday. "I think he only conned me once, but I hope that was the only time."

Brown said his falling out with Cole was over a car. Before Cole went to Georgia on a basketball scholarship, he decided to use $10,000 of his inheritance from his father's death to buy a Cadillac. When Brown found out about it, he told Cole that it was a waste of money, that he would need the money while in college. Brown said he advised Cole to return the vehicle and even called the car salesman who sold it to him to encourage him to take it back. The dealer agreed to (albeit for $1,500 less), and Cole told Brown he would return it. Cole never did.

"I literally have not had contact with him since," Brown said.

Mike Young, a Georgia basketball booster, believes retribution was Cole's motivation for dragging his name into the controversy. Cole told the Journal-Constitution last weekend that Young, a golf course architect, has given him at least $900 in the past two years, including $300 for a one-day shopping spree in December 2001.

"If you're asking me if there is any reason for Tony Cole to come after me, the answer is, yes there is," Young said. "But I cannot talk about it today." Young said attorneys representing the Georgia Athletics Association in the investigation told him not to talk.

Young does not deny doing good deeds for Cole, but he said anything he did was done within NCAA regulations and with the approval of Georgia compliance officials.

"I'm a gung-ho basketball fan, but I've never done anything to jeopardize the program," Young said.

Jacobs said people often want to help Cole when they find out about his upbringing. His father, Elasco Burrell, died in a construction accident when Cole was 17. Cole says his mother, Janice Cole, is in a mental institution.

"Tony has had more help than anybody I've ever known," Jacobs said. "I realize he has had difficult beginnings; where a person comes from is going to impact them. But sooner or later, you have to make up your mind how you want it to turn out. Everybody has been trying to give his sad beginning a happy ending, but it seems like it always turns out like this, with him angry with somebody about something."

MH,

you might be right... but not for the reason you think. True I do know TC, but I'm just so sick and tired of the Jim Harricks of the world who are soooo dirty and get away clean when the isht hits the fan. He was not interested in helping Tony Cole...he was only trying to further his career as a basketball coach.

I realize that Tony is making it difficult for other athletes. I agree that I probably wouldn't have done it like he did...as a matter of fact, I would have counselled him to do otherwise. I would have told him to be quiet, get himself together THEN sing his azz off after Georgia had gone to the tourney and make them forfeit every dayum penny!

Mike Bigg, I don't condone what Harrick, or any coach that crosses the line does. I know it's all about Harrick, like I said before the NCAA is BIG business, and along with BIG programs, comes BIG expectations, and sometimes, unacheivable expectations, so you're right it's all about Harrick, but it's also about BIG business as well.

These coaches know in order to keep their half million dollar salaries, along with their half million dollar shoe contracts, and half million dollar tv, and radio deals, they have to cater to star athlete's in order for their livliehoods to be as they want. I ask you, what's wrong with that?

A coach is no different than a department head, or some sort of supervisor. They use all subordinates, and employees for their own good, and the minute you don't make them look good, you're gone. The same as a coach, you don't help him win games, you're gone.

How many times was Harrick supposed to put his arse on the line before he cut his losses with Cole? Hell he wasn't even the first coach to cut Cole loose. From AAU on up, he's been let go, it's a pattern with him. At some point the kid has to realize, if everybody is saying the same thing about me, then it's not them with the problem it me. His trail stretches from LA, to RI, to GA, and every stop on that trail, everybody says the same thing.

It's people like you who support him, and encourage him when he's clearly wrong, but yet you find fault with someone else, and not him, and that's why he can't get his schit together, because somebody always looks at him as the victim, so he thinks it's OK.

I'm glad Harrick kicked his punk arse out, and I'm glad Jobe turned him down, maybe people telling him NO for a change, will help him staighten himself out, because obviously the people like you who give him support hasn't got him no further in his life then where he started.

I don't think Harrick is wrong, or any other coach for that matter, because it's BIG business, and they do what they have to do survive in a dog eat dog business.

I'm not saying Harrick is no angel, but as any smart BIG business man would do, he tried to protect an investment, and when that investment didn't pay off, he cut his lossess. Just like every other coach has done with Cole, except you.

NICE

Preach on Nice!

And the sad part about it is that Cole (and his supporters) are probably now wondering why no coach will touch him.

Go to my very first post...notice where I told yall that Tony was a hustler and con-man. Notice how I told yall, that I once had to kick him out of a scrimmage with my team. Not disputing any of the things that yall are mentioning now. But why am I the only one here who sees Jim Harrick and son for who they are? They were not "helping" Tony because of his difficult background. They were trying to get themselves a basketball player to help further their own careers.

Yall have been persistent in posting articles about Tony's past, but where are the articles about Harrick. Remember this dude got ran from UCLA for cheating (after he had won a Nat'l championship). This dude did some illegal recruiting and other isht while at Rhode Island with Lamar Odom. This same dude and his crooked azz son is guilty as sin during his brief time at UGA. As long as there are Jim Harricks out there (collegiately and on the high school level) there will always be Tony Cole's looking to beat the system.

An just what is the system. The college athletic arena at the Division 1 schools cheat to thrive and prosper. While the lower division schools (especially HBCU's) struggle to recruit properly
(as if we had the $ or contacts to do otherwise), these schools are pulling isht like the Harricks did in this case and many more.

Do I feel sorry for Tony...not really cuz he brought a lot of this on himself, plus trust me: Tony Cole has gone through worse. I just hope he straightens it up before he runs out of options (in sports and life). Do I feel for the poor Harricks who this kid "betrayed"? PHUGG NO!. I'm actually happy that they are finally getting caught in the isht they pull. Crooked azz cheaters!

Harrick Faces N.C.A.A. Investigation
By BILL FINLEY

Georgia lost on Sunday to No. 2 Kentucky, 74-66, and takes on No. 3 Florida tonight, but this formidable stretch in the Bulldogs' schedule could prove to be the least of Coach Jim Harrick's problems. Harrick, no stranger to controversy, is under investigation by university officials, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Southeastern Conference after a disgruntled former player leveled several charges against Harrick and his program, the latest an accusation that Harrick allowed the player to use Harrick's personal credit card to purchase a television.

The charges come from Tony Cole, who was dismissed from the team after the 2001-2 season after serving a 16-game suspension handed down in conjunction with a sexual-assault charge. The charge was later dismissed. Cole earlier claimed that Jim Harrick Jr., Harrick's son and one of his assistant coaches, paid $300 to settle Cole's outstanding phone bill and committed academic fraud on his behalf. Cole has also alleged that the Georgia booster Mike Young gave him and other Georgia players money, which Young has denied.

The senior Harrick has dismissed Cole's accusations and told reporters that Cole is a "very bitter young man." In an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Cole, now living in Baton Rouge. La., admitted he was motivated by revenge and was angered that Harrick did not stick by him when he was facing the sexual-assault charges.

"All he had to do was let me play," Cole told the newspaper. "Just one more year. He wouldn't even have to pick up the fifth year because I was going to graduate before that anyway. Just one more year."

For the 64-year-old Harrick, who has been coaching at Georgia since 1999 and has turned the university into a consistent winner (the team is ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press poll with a 17-9 record), the charges are the latest instance in which he has been involved in off-the-court problems. Harrick won the national championship at U.C.L.A. in 1995 but was fired a year later after falsifying expense-account reports.

His next stop was Rhode Island, where he nearly took his team to the Final Four in 1998, losing to Stanford by 2 points in the quarterfinals. But during his two-year tenure there, he was named in a sexual-harassment suit that was settled out of court. And yesterday, Rhode Island said it was investigating allegations that players had their grades changed and had received money from Harrick's staff and boosters, according to The Associated Press

As for Cole, the sexual-assault charges he faced were not the first off-court problems he has encountered. He spent three days in a Baton Rouge jail after being arrested on felony charges of aggravated assault, disturbing the peace, criminal trespass and two outstanding warrants. But investigators have not been willing to dismiss the credibility of his charges against Harrick simply because of his background.

"We take these allegations very seriously," Athletic Director Vince Dooley said. "We are trying to find out the truth and will take appropriate actions from there."

Mike Slive, the S.E.C. commissioner, said: "We will work closely with the institution and provide them with whatever advice and support we can. The goal is to find out what happened."

Harrick did not return phone calls yesterday seeking comment.

For now, the Harrick-Cole dispute comes down to a he said-he said situation. Though Cole said there should be a record of Harrick's purchasing the television, Cole has yet to provide any substantiating evidence for his claim. Harrick has stood by his position that Cole has fabricated the story, telling the newspaper, "You'll find out in due time what kind of guy this guy is."

The case against Harrick Jr. may be a stronger one. Cole was able to produce a Western Union invoice showing that he received $300 to pay the phone bill and the receipt shows that the money was sent by a Jim Harrick, presumably Jim Harrick Jr. That led to the younger Harrick being suspended without pay by Georgia pending further review. Dooley said no similar actions were taken against the senior Harrick, because no proof had been offered to substantiate Cole's accusations.

"We can only deal with what facts we have right now," Dooley said. "There was a wire and money was sent to him by Jim Harrick Jr., who admits he sent the money and there is a document. The other charges are just allegations and, with respect to due process, we don't feel it is appropriate to do any more until we know what the truth is."

Tony Cole isn't noble in his actions. He isn't doing any of this to try and right the wrongs. He is doing this simply out of spite.

My point exactly! As I said before, if he felt these payoffs and favors were so atrocious, why in Hell didn't he blow the whistle when he was on the receiving end of all this?

This kid is NOT a victim! He's trying to paint himself as one. I'm tellin' ya, I know some young folks just like him...I swear I do!

If you are glad that the Harricks are getting what they deserve as you say, then why is it not fair that Cole is now getting what he deserves for his actions too? Harrick is out at GA, and Cole may not get another chance to play Ball again for any college. That seems fair to me.

I am in no way supporting what the Harricks have done, although I do understand how the system works, and I have no issues about it. But Cole is still not a victim in any of this. He was ready, willing, and able to play the game. They scratched his back, he scratched theirs. But true to form of TC, he stopped pulling his weight. Then they pulled the rug from under his arse. You say Cole is a hustler and a con man. Well any good con man knows that you have to give a little to get a little.

Spiteful broad = Tony Cole

I don't see Tony trying to paint himself as a victim. I see a cat who is out to get those who got me.

See the excerpt from my initial post. Notice the first paragraph where I mentioned that he has always had issues. Notice how I said his problems were mostly self-inflicted. Why do I blame Harrick. Cuz his cheating azz could have told Tony Cole from jump street..."I'm giving you a chance but you got to clean up your act and stay out of trouble...I'm not gonna put you up in a nice hotel and let you run up the bill...I'm not gonna pay your telephone bills...I'm not gonna let you live in the backroom of the athletic/coaches office and bring girls in there and have sex during office hours...I'm not gonna put you in classes that my son teaches so you can sleep late and I'm not gonna take correspondence courses to get you eligible." Maybe if Harrick would have done this, then I would blame everything on Tony Cole.

But because he didn't, I'll stick to the topic of my thread: TONY COLE AIN'T LYING...

Tony Cole Ain't Lying...
I have none Tony Cole since he was about 9 yrs old. One of the best young BREC league and high school talents from BR. Tony has had a lot of issues around him, but I totally believe him about the things he stated about Jim Harrick.

Because of Tony's ability...coaches have always done favors and "looked the other way" to get him eligible. Tony doesn't hesitate to accept favors and knowing his background and the things he encounter (some self inflicted), he got those favors from Harrick. Tony has never been a good student, but he is actually a bright and sharp young man. He is very mannerable and charming so it's really easy to look out for him (notice how the lady took him in and allowed him to stay with her during the summer). But his "hustling" ways (actually in his mind, it's survival) has caused him a lot of problems.
