The Tom Joyner Foundation has named a student from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as a Hercules Scholar. Andrew Bingham, a sophomore majoring in Industrial Technology at UAPB, will receive a $1500 scholarship as part of the TJ Foundation Minority School of the Month Initiative.
Andrew Bingham is a native of Kingston, Jamaica where he is a well known soccer athlete. In 2010, Bingham won the Track & Field Championship, and in 2011 he was named Male Athlete of the Year.
While a student at UAPB, Bingham is active in T&F and tutors in his major area of study. He has a 3.8 GPA and is a member of the Carolyn F. Blakely Honors College at UAPB. He credits his father as being the most influential person ins his life.
The Hercules Scholarship is named after Tom Joyner's father, the late Hercules Joyner, who was a strong supporter of higher education. Candidates must be male, attend a Foundation School of the Month, have an average GPA of 3.5, and be a campus leader actively involved in the community with career goals aimed at making a difference in the quality of life for his race.
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff was named the Tom Joyner School of the Month for June 2013.
