09/26/1998 was the date. There was breaking news on ESPN and there were 2 JSU alums visiting in the home when ESPN broke programming. Although I wasn't too far from LU, I didn't attend the game, as I had so many others (I attended 54 of the 80). A grand 15 total scholarships vs those who had 60+.

Note: The week after the victory over LU, we played in the SFC and held GSU to a 22-22 tie going into halftime. The final score was GSU-55, PV-40.

I went to high school with #62 and 67. I'll always remember that night. It was my junior year at PV. Me and alot of PV folks had gone to Austin for the weekend since the game was out of town. When the DJ at the party announced the breaking news that PV had won, the crowd went wild. We got back to the yard the next day and saw the goal posts in dr. Hines's yard.

I still have all the news coverage that came after somewhere on VHS. They even interviewed Ms. Jeanie(sp) who ran the Pit off of university drive...lol. Those were some good times. You'd swear we had won a championship.
 
Salute To 1998 Football Team
We salute, celebrate and remember the 1998 Prairie View A&M University football team on the 20th anniversary of ending an 80-game losing streak.

The Panthers defeated Langston 14-12 on this day in 1998 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, as the defense authored one of the most important moments in University history.

After allowing a Langston touchdown in the final minute of the game, Prairie View A&M stopped the game-tying two-point conversion, and then recovered the onside kick, to win for the first time since Oct. 28, 1989.

Since that win, no PVAMU football team has had a winless season.

Since 2007, Prairie View A&M has had seven winning seasons, including three in a row, won the 2009 SWAC Championship (the first since 1964), and has won 74 games – the second-highest win total of any team in the SWAC.

We salute, celebrate, and remember the 1998 Prairie View A&M University football team, whose victory that night changed a team, a program and a University forever.
