Re: Four transfers make a quick impact on tnsu defense

he doesnt know what he is talking about mj83, in reference to the 20 players. shawiggi is just misconstrueing information to make a point.

just for you FYI..the 20 that you are talkin about are the ones that tried out a week ago and Jones kept twenty. get your facts straight..lol

Re: Four transfers make a quick impact on tnsu defense

A&M will play approximately 20 newcomers Saturday night in Nashville against the Tigers.

"This is definitely a youth movement," Jones said. "We're going to play a lot of new guys for the first time. They're going to get their first taste of action against a very good football team in a high-profile setting.

"That's the similarity for me. We'll just have to look at it and see."

Scrimmage shorter: A&M was forced to shorten its final mock scrimmage Saturday night because of heavy rain, thunder and lightning. As a result, Jones said he wouldn't put much stock in it.

"It was too short to make a fair assessment," he said. "I'm not going to put much on it, but there are some things we're going to work on from that."

Yes Jones is Po mouthing but you do have newcomers who have to prove themselves. This is a new team and a new year.

Re: Four transfers make a quick impact on tnsu defense

Checkit you have 20 players who either did not play last season but were on the team or are new to the team all together. All will see time Saturday per Jones. Check out the local Huntville Paper.

You can't trust what you read in the papers. You have to go and see for yourself or have someone who is trustworthy to check it out for you,or maybe have someone who knows one of the players. As for your beat reporter he is just getting a check and hopefully looking for the next opportunity in a larger market. His goal should be to get to Memphis, or New Orleans. If we did have twenty players what good would it do us this late in the season, a player would have to have the ability to make a big impact if a coach was to try and get him ready for the season, coming in so late to fall camp. What I was saying about your outside linbackers is they better be able to cover the backs, the tightends, and the slot, in the offense jsu will face Saturday night and they are going to need to be two or three deep(running is tiring). Now maybe yall are going to the nickle package all night and give up putting pressure on the qb, that way you just get nickled and dimed all night long eating up the clock and even if they don't score td's they field goal you into submission. Like I said Saturday night will tell. Good Luck.

We will apply pressure, we will drop back in coverage and we also can nickle and dime you to death. We have eyes at practices so we are not going off of davids info. You still haven't given me good reason to fear DSU. This is not the same team as in the past. This is all new for them on offense. There QB has never played in this system so no one really knows what they will do. It's all speculation at this point. What we do know is we are ready for this season. :happydance:

Hopefully fear will not come into play for jsu. Beware of the spread offense, to defend it properly requires mental toughness on the part of all your cover personal. Once a team finds something that works in the spread they only have to change the formation to run it over and over. Don't fear play and adjust.

Dude, we are JSU. Mental toughness is a requirement to even try out for us. You gotta have heart to play for JSU. Don't confuse heart with not knowing the plays or being in the wrong defensive set. JSU won most of our games last year in the 4th quarter. There was no quit in us. None AT ALL (thanks MH).

Re: Four transfers make a quick impact on tnsu defense

You don't need to fear DSU. You ain't playin them. You fear UNA. :happydance:

That is Shawiggi's response to the discussion we were having. We all seem to have our Waterloo's and I do think Grambling is your's, so unless your talking football this is the sports page.

Re: Four transfers make a quick impact on tnsu defense

TP most of your analysis of jsue football team is "wishful" rhetoric.

the sad thing is you actually believe ALL of it.:what::emlaugh:

Grambling was ours in the 60's early 70's. In the 80's we were 5-5 and in the 90's, we beat them in 90, 91, 95-99. They are 6-1 against us in the 00's. I think this decade will end 6-4 or no worse than 7-3 in Grambling's favor. So don't let GSU fool you about being in our heads. Since 1980, Grambling is 14-14 vs JSU.

If you use the "quote" function, folk won't think someone else's response, that you're responding to, is yours.:lecture:

Don't speculate on victories that have not happened( something about counting chickens before they hatch). So GSU has a greater number of victories vs jsu? jsu holds the upper hand vs Valley...

JSU leads the series vs EVERY HBCU we have played except Hampton, A&T, Gram, SU and TNState. Before Bell, we led SU and TNState and we are about to close those gaps real soon. Hampton only played Bell-led teams.

Yes we are...you referenced us in the earlier post and then you went and researched and covered a wide enuff range to make it .500. Let's stay current dude... 6-1 this decade. But this is not the smackpage. :quiet:

I just have to keep things in order. I don't let folk keep up lies and I know how to put things in the proper perspective. :hat: That's important.

sometimes its fun to see what he will make up next. i know nobody from AAMU listens or cares what he says about SWAC football...especially A&M football.

I really wasn't trying to smack... JSU has my respect, seriously. Especially in terms of long time success. However, we didn't start beating yall with Hughes and Bell. Now I will give W.C. Gordon credit for finally being .500 with us in the 80's. However before then, we had his number big time. There were years when yall would have truly dominated the SWAC but Grambling was always that thorn in the side. Now Big Daddy handled his bizness against us for the most part. I give credit to the early 90's through mid 90's cuz he was doing things with that program. Not taking anything from WC cuz I think he's an alltime great...but Big Daddy opened up that offense to go with those linebackers and it was hard to beat yall. HOWEVER, yall have been on decline ever since...it started under Hughes (though he tried...but yall were too dayum stubborn to get LC Cole who was chomping at the bits) and accelerated under the worst coach in the modern SWAC history. Comegys is a serious upgrade and will bring yall back...but the league is much tougher nowadays with the two Bamas added and PB showing signs of coming up. Now it's gonna take more than a split with Grambling and SU to get a championship.

Dayum...sorry for getting this thread off track. TnSU does have a good defense (per transfer and last year returnees) so it's gonna be interesting to see how A&M fares.

Hall travels across town to play ball for TnSU

By MIKE ORGAN
Staff Writer

In one breath Marquez Hall admits he wasn't ready to play football on the college level last season at Vanderbilt.

In the next breath the talented cornerback says he's more eager than ever to get on the field this season at Tennessee State.

After redshirting at Vanderbilt, the Shorter, Ala., native decided in early summer not to return to the Commodores. He wanted to go to a school where he would be eligible to play right away and that meant finding the right fit at an NCAA Division I FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision ? formerly Division I-A) program.

He considered Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State, Appalachian State and Jackson State before settling on TSU.

"At first I wanted to play last season while I was at Vanderbilt, but I found out I really wasn't ready," Hall said. "Now, I thank them for redshirting me because I still have four years to play."

And play he will. Hall quickly moved to the starting cornerback position opposite of preseason All-American Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Tigers lost Aaron Strong to graduation so Hall will start in the season opener Saturday at LP Field against Alabama A&M.

No avoiding Rodgers-Cromartie

The arrival of Hall got TSU's defense out of a bind. There was no clear starter identified after spring practice.

"We're fortunate to get Marquez," said defensive coordinator Ron Lambert. "I don't know how he dropped in our lap. But anytime (Vanderbilt) drops good players like that, I'll take them."

Hall won't say exactly why he left Vandy other than being buried on the depth chart by upperclassmen.

"I transferred for some other reasons, too, and I'm just happy to be here at Tennessee State," Hall said. "I was pretty happy at Vanderbilt, but things happen."

Hall plans to make things happen.

"He's allowed us to have some flexibility in the secondary," Lambert said. "He's allowing us to do some things with Dominique that we probably wouldn't have been able to do. As good as Dominique is sometimes, people have a tendency to want to go away from him. Now we've got a guy on the other side, that if you try to go away from Dominique, I call a ball hawk."

Lambert calls Hall a ball hawk because he already has caused a turnover in every full-speed drill in practice and recorded seven interceptions.

Fast track

Hall was a track star in high school and has shown off his speed throughout camp.

"My speed is my biggest asset, but I like to tackle, too," Hall said. "I'm a physical corner also."

TSU Coach James Webster is happy Hall didn't have the patience to wait for his turn to play at Vanderbilt.

"On the Division I level it's not a matter of how good you are, it's a matter of when you get an opportunity to play," Webster said.

"There are so many good players ? everybody's good. In a lot of cases you have to wait your turn and life goes by fast. A lot of these premier athletes don't want to sit on the bench for two and three years just to play one year. I am just so thrilled to have Marquez ? he's been a great surprise for us."
