Thousands of fans are expected to watch Jackson State University take on Southern

No SWAC football game should be more than $15 a ticket I'm sorry. If SU makes their tickets $15 and can put 24K in the stands, you'll bring in $500K each game easily with parking, concessions, etc.

How come these ig'nant ADs (including JSU's) can't figure out that if attendance is dwindling, you need to lower prices! I know it can work for SU and JSU, for sure.

why do you guys always attack the media?

let me say something about businesses in your local community .... F em

are they supporting the school?
how much money do they donate to the school. are they advertising?

obviousy they are doing enough to warrant consideration. damn all that...tc is looking at the bottom line

Exactly! all those businesses in Jackson are gonna make $4M this weekend but ain't a dime going to JSU or SU.

We have $15 tickets now in the new addition, and it was standing room only in the endzone. But these dummies have added a $5 parking fee in a recession.

are you saying that anything over 36,250 and Clayton looks like a genius?
:scared:

LOL!

It has to be significantly over, like 50,000 plus to make any of them look like somewhat of a genius, because my calculations does not include transportation cost for the team and the band.

Remember, the objective here is to make an overwhelming profit, because anything under a half of million ($250,000) would be unacceptable.

Those tix should be $8 then. With the recession, the finished product thats on the field and dwindling attendance, I don't see how someone could charge $25 or more for a ticket.

That should be easy to make remember you don't have to pay rent just the game day expenses and taxes. 35,000 * $25 = 875,000. The share of the parking and consessons should pay for the expenses & taxes. I also didn't even count the extra $10 made off of the reserved tickets sold.

SU's regular ticket prices are $28-$52. SU folks dont mind paying, it just the other BS, they are doing killing our crowd. The tailgate fees at SU are ridiculous. $1000 RV parking, $300 tailgate spots that just crazy. Each year the crowd gets smaller and smaller. Plus with all these rules they have taken the fun out of tailgating.

I actually TOTALLY agree....

Only time they look smart is when they are able to get 30k or more at $30
Because to match that at $15 a head you will need to bring in 60k

Please post your calculations.

I meant a quarter million, which I showed in parenthesis.

The equation is:

X=29,000/(1-0.2)=36,250

where X is Memorial Stadium's equalivent capacity, 29,000 is Mumford Stadium's maximum capacity, and (1-0.2) is Jackson State 20%.

This equation does not factor in other expenses, such team and band travels.

A quarter million can't be the objective, this game would have easily cleared that mark in Mumford.

No way prices should be lower. Schools are also in a recession. Funding was cut drastically. Regardless of where the game is, no price DECREASE makes sense.

A quarter of a million would be the profit made over the total amount that would have been generated at Mumford. For example, if Mumford can generate $1,000,000, then Memorial needs to generate $1,500,000, which give JSU their 20% ($250,000) and a $250,000 profit for Southern over what Mumford would have generated.

This is all about a power and leadership, pure and simple. Does SU really want TC to run athletics. That's not his or the boards job. If Southern loses against J-State, it could ruin the rest of the season (attendance wise) for Southern on a gamble that one man is willing to take. No one person should have that kind of say-so. Pete has said there is no way Southern can play in Jackson every year. He is right. Remember this is about football first, and to give up home field advantage on the hope that you can pimp your fan base is crazy.

Southern has no one to blame for running off its hometown fans, but Southern. It's just one scandal after another. Like SUjag is saying, fix the problems and your hometown fans and businesses will get behind you. They don't owe you anything. Instead of pissing them off, try good PR. Fans have too many other entertainment opitions these days. The fact that Southern has to depend on the city of Jackson to make money is telling in itself. It ain't about the size of the stadium, but the size of the attitude of Southern's leadership. Jag fans who, I talk to say Southern can start by getting away from all the gimmicks and lowering ticket prices.

Another thing. Y'all should stop putting this all on Greg Lefluer, he's just the fall guy if all this money stuff fails. I heard Cador is up for his job anyway.

Southern's fans and the city of Baton Rouge lose out on this deal big time regardless on the outcome of the game.

My advice to Southern and Pete is ... You better win this game.

My take

It does not matter anymore it will be close to 50,000 fans and we are going home with the win and the money and TC will think he is big sh#t for the rest of the year.

Your numbers are Accurate and True........

My personal thought process: If the attendance is 50,000 and the average ticket price is $25.00, SU would get a decent pay day over what would have been made in The Ace........

And that cracker at the Cabot looked like he would rather see that hotel burn to the ground, than be full of Niggras this weekend:vomit:. I'll be home this weekend, queing:D
You can think that all you want, but you had better believe he is looking forward to the booking bonus he is going to get for this weekend for a full house.

SU and JSU BOTH need to go back to reasonable ticket prices. We are pricing out Jackson and Baton Rouge.

After looking at this more in-depth, an old saying my mother and grandmother would also say comes to mind, "some folks know they be operating off of a wing and a prayer". This is too sad that we have top level people at our colleges and universities that think like this. If HBCU's Alums don't step up to the plate and start questioning everything these political ninjas do that have been put in-charge of our schools, we'll all eventually end up like Morris Brown. And others are watching, because I can remember the time when my brother-in-law who once played football at LSU like LaFleur did, made the comment to me that he doesn't understand how top level administrated folks can show up on a college campus driving expensive cars when much is needed for the students. Maybe I need to ask my brother-in-law who has his Masters to apply for the A.D. job, since Lafleur might be on his way out or maybe we'll understand enough to make our own decisions.

But look at what has happened to SU. The whole atmosphere at SU has changed. From high ticket prices, newly established parking fees, and high tailgating charges, SU has begun to outprice its fanbase. What are we really paying all this money for? To see a mediocre coaching job, to lose in every sport but Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Tennis?

15,000 fans paying $30.00 will not make as much as 29,000 paying $20.00. Having a sellout crowd makes the atmosphere in the stadium more electric, and can also impress recruits.

I just feel that if folks wanna go, they'll pay 30. That's one less new shirt or one less bottle of crown on game week.

If our alums gave money outside of buying game tickets I might have a different opinion on game tickets.

After watching this,Southern has got to have the dumbest AD alive to give our city free money and a big home game.......I thought our AD Braddy was dumb....

but in all serious th this is another example of how our HBCU AD's have no clue when it comes to business!

You're right! If I were Southern's AD, I would have only talked to those in charge of Veterans Memorial and asked what it would cost to "RENT" the stadium every other year. If Southern's AD would have went about it this way, they would not have had to cut a deal with Jackson State because JSU doesn't own the stadium. Those in charge of the stadium would have given SU a sweet deal to rent the stadium every other year, and JSU wouldn't have gotten a dime.

Southern's AD does not have to speak with JSU to rent the stadium/schedule JSU on their own, they can cut out the middle man(JSU), and go straight to the owner to rent the stadium and keep the majority of the money without paying JSU a dime. IF JSU gets upset because Southern refuse to share, then JSU should go to the city and ask for a piece of the pie. Remember, JSU would have no choice but to play Southern because of the mandate, therefore JSU can't refuse to play Southern or they will be penalized. The only reason this would work "WITHOUT" any delay is because of the SWAC mandate. Can you imagine Southern on the home side at Veterans Memorial?:kaioken::lol:

This would also spice up the rivalry and bring more fans to the game.
