The WNBA is actually expanding next year

Does it make sense for them to expand though, given that the WNBA does not make a profit and is being supported by the NBA on the annual basis in the millions? One would think that they would focus on making each team profitable first before expanding, unless they are counting on the buy in for each of the new teams being enough to counter the drop in payout to each team due to revenue sharing.

Its a shame that Houston let the Comets fold. I haven't watched the WNBA since Cynthia Cooper stopped playing. I don't think the league will ever get to that level of popularity no matter how much they try to force these new players on the public.

I never understood why the Comets folded

Those early WNBA years were the best

I'll keep on saying it no matter how unpopular it is. When almost all of your stars are studs, the average person/guy doesn't wanna watch it no matter how much they wanna say it doesn't bother them. The numbers have backed this up for over a decade

The biggest complaint was lack of a family atmosphere. The Comets had a good alphabet fan base that a lot of fathers refused to bring their daughters around.

Attitudes might be different now, but I can't say the end result won't be same if they tried in Houston again. I think a better option would be a more liberal city like Austin since it will surpass 1M during the next census count and has no pro sports.

The elephant in the room as to why the league was struggling prior to this year. People might be OK with it but that doesn't mean they will support it

Clark and Reese are both straight so it was kinda lightning in a bottle with A'ja being the biggest benefactor

I am going to ask-WHAT are they doing in the stands that are making folks uncomfortable?

Or is it some of the folks being LGBTQA+ that are the issue?

Other cities have found smaller arenas to offset the NBA stuff - Comets got kicked out in Houston at the Toyota Center - its best they secure a smaller venue before trying to bid big

If Tilman Fertitta wants them here they'll be back. One thing people forget about is the Comets were loaded with talent. Swoopes, Cooper and Thompson would have won multiple championships on any team anywhere.
