The Term "Down Low Brother" Defined by Me

To all of the men who started/responded, are you homosexual or bisexual AND have you ever had a "down low" relationship while involved with a woman?

Just wondering, for the sake of research!

I have never participated in any acts of homosexuality. I started this thread to point out the societal verbage that is being utilized to down grade black men. White men are referred as being in the closet....but we are down low....I'm just focusing on the verbage...I believe it is happening and it's sad; it's sad that men are sleeping with men and they are married...it's sad that women are sleeping with other men when they are married.

People are just not taking the responsibility that they should be taking.

As far down low...this is just another piece of verbage that black men are going to have to fight....

Well keep on living, and you will hear of other things that may point negative towards the black man/woman.

This type of verbage as it is called did not just start and it's not gonna stop because it upsets you.

So if the shoe doesn't fit......then don't try it on! ;)

And another thing, this thread was not about DL sistas, but about brothers, so the diversion is not necessary.

My thing is this...why all of a sudden is this a topic of interest. Folks have been doing the DL shizit for years...men AND women...this ain't new. Since that e-mail about the book by some fudge packer came out, folks are acting like this is new.

Folks need to be more selective about who they are sleeping with and protect themselves. And don't be afraid to ask your S/O questions about their past. If you can't be open and honest maybe y'all need to stay outta the bed. Aids is not picking and choosing who gets it...that mess is taking out anybody.

Protect yourself folks.

I call this the HARPO effect.....basically anything that Oprah talks about it becomes the way of the world for the majority of black woman. If your man or woman is on the D/L chances are you know it.....but don't want to believe it.

Would having this conversation with my dad and sister (both Board Certified praticing M.D.'s), my brother-in-law (a Ph.D Professor of Anatomy and Physiology), and my gynecologist qualify as ?research??

I was just about to tell him the family history.... but ya beat me to it! :D

They may have conflicting information out there, but I am inclined to agree with Tara on this one.

Although, whatever the case folks are dying left around from this disease. I know of another young lady who recently died, in fact two more young ladies, who recently died from this disease. One was married and her boyfriend who was on the DL contracted it, never told her, and left her. She died. He died too. The other young lady contracted it from a boyfriend and she does not know how he got it...She died. She left a 10 year old son to her mother to care for....

It is unfortunate that this disease could not get most folks attention in regular conversation. I do not agree that just because Oprah talked about it, it has become an issue. I think that since Oprah talked about it, it is making more folks speak up about it. Ya know it was rather taboo to do that. Plus, this faggit who wrote that DL book brought some light to the subject. The topic itself is not new.

Even so, I am GLAD that it is getting light. Too many people are losing their lives and if the so-called HARPO EFFECT saves one life, then more power to Ms. Winfrey! Save another life!

The primary thing I'm wondering is what's the difference between a man in the closet and a DL Man....why the difference of verbage because of race?

Agree 100%!

This is not new, people are now putting it on front street and the so called manly-man brothers are running like cockroaches when you cut the light on.

But seriously, why is it a problem now that it is out there?

Just wondering...... :dizzy:

If you KNOW it, then they are NOT on the DL and yo arse is crazy...

Whether or not anyone wants to believe, or accept it, it is happening everyday, otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation. Call it what you want...a rose by any other name...

It aint no difference Sweet. They IS all faggits. Excuse me...homosexuals...but they don't want to stereo-type themselves. Whatever! I just think they need to tell the woman they are with that they like to do it in the butt. If she proceeds with it, then that is on her. But to hide it....they still are an in the closet homosexual.

There would be no need for the terminology, and black women wouldn't be the portion of the population with the fastest rising cases of HIV and AIDS, if some of our isht packing "brethren" would pull the wool from over their eyes and realize that if they fugg men, they're GAY.

You don't have to pull the wool over a black woman's eyes because she is going to believe what she wants. For example, women who deal with dope dealers. Whats the logic? The game has been around way too long for everyone to know that it doesn't last. But who be up in they faces and having a couple a kids by these men when she already knows that he has five other children. Then be up at the county jail crying when he gets caught. Why can't they support your average hard working brother? :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh:

Personally, I believe sex between two men is just wrong......an abomination.

However, two good looking women going at it with me there in the room participating is a thing of beauty.

:D

But this thread is about GAY men not telling their S/O they sleep with men.

White men have been involved in this behavior FO' YEARS but when our community is affected by it, we become the primary association.

northern tiger,

That's because our own people wrote a book about it.

So where is the blame now? Oh okay.... Dwight Mann.

So, since white men have been doing it, does this make it ok for brothers to do it also?? Just asking...
