The SWAC is in negotiations to keep the tournament in Houston

It did....Shreveport was before it moved to Garland...I think Shreveport would have grown eventually. I enjoyed going to the games more in Shreveport than I ever did in Garland...that was the move that made no sense at all to me.

I sorta recall they didn't give Shreveport a chance. Not sure what was up with that... ..and Garland of all places... lol

It just fascinates the heck outta me. That everyone keeps trying to make Shreveport this go to place for championship football games.

We were talking about the basketball tournament, not football. The bball tournament in Shreveport compared to Garland was much better.....neither of those options is better than what we currently have. Both football and basketball should remain in Houston.

My bad

From what I am hearing there is concern about low attendance in the early rounds of the tournament vs daily cost of Toyota Center. I think there will be a format change beginning in 2017. The bottom two seeds will not participate in the tournament. The top 4 seeds will host 1st round tournament games. The semis and finals will be at Toyota Center.

Dude that was decided yesterday

New Delmar will also benefit from construction upgrades of the freeways and streets near it that are currently ongoing. It's practically right by where 290 (Northwest Freeway) meets the 610 loop.

With its proximity to the Galleria and lodging dining options along 290, it could actually work

what is the capacity of that place? I think you all said SU vs TxSo drew 7000 last year.
Delmar fieldhouse seats 5000. If TSU is in the final this place will not meet the demand.

That's the old Delmar, the new one will seat more. They are competing with the Merrill Center, the Berry Center & the Campbell Center. That's why they decided to rebuild it from scratch and they are even changing the name to the Delmar-Tusa Center.

smh. That's just plain ole wrong. And hypocritical. But then again, maybe the SWAC also thinks the NCAA should do the same and not include the bottom conferences in the tournament. Anybody wonder if the SWAC itself is one of those conferences ranked at the bottom.

smh!

Can we stop

What facts do you have to support that?

If the bottom two seeds are always below .500. Why is that a problem?

That's good for TSU and PV. It sucks for the other teams because they have to play, then travel. And I would imagine the SWAC will still do an awards banquet.

Why is that good for them?
They could be seeded 5-8 and have to travel to play in that first round.

It's a problem because these are conference teams and this is a conference tournament. The fact that their records "are always below .500", doesn't change the fact that they are still conference teams. Their seeding in the tournament will reflect their "always below .500 record". But to not include them is wrong, IMO. I have been saying that for years.

btw, there are several teams with better records and rpi than Southern, but they aren't in the NCAA tournament. Since you question why is it a problem to exclude the bottom teams in the tournament, do you also think the NCAA should just take the highest ranked 64 (or 68) teams and call it a day? Mind you, Southern's RPI is #186 and they play in the conference ranked at the bottom in rpi.

It's no different than any of the other sports tournament that don't take all the teams (ie baseball & softball).

Its decided already? I really don't see the sense in this. What if AlaState is the 4 seed and TxSo is the 5 seed. TxSo still has to travel far. That's the same difference as AlaState traveling to Tx. You are not saving the schools money. if venue cost is the problem, then change the venue. Why do we have to have the Toyota Center?

Why would the other teams have to play and travel?

Teams will still have to travel to play. Even if SU hosts a game.. you still have to travel to Houston if you win. If you lose. The team that beat you will have traveled to BR and then have to travel to Houston. I don't see the real sense in this... BUT this is the SWAC we are talking about.
