Nice, but the funky chicken has been out of style a long time ago.

Even though I am about as far removed from pop culture as they come, I understood that it was an anthology.

Anyhow...I like the 3 DMs a lot better than the troop that they had before. Yet, there are still 2 too many.

Solid performance and a nice return. I expect more brilliance to come.

Since this is their first performance in a while I will give them a pass....

Yep. I agree.

Now what I did see at that game was footage of Valley marching in or something with one of their flag bearers carrying the State of MS flag. Man I almost threw up. Love my state but hate that damn flag. No way would I carry that mofo. LOL.

:quiet: (no pun intended) Try a black church here in my home town where you have the town Flag, American Flag, AND THE CONFEDERATE FLAG flying high in the wind----:smh::vomit:!!

Glad they are back and good to see them drill a lil now but the dance routine was darn near longer than the show. 2 questions though: 1) with all those fine women in florida why dont famu have a drill/dance team 2) when are they gonna take those grown men off those lil a** cymbals

It's more like the 'Return of the 52' instead of the '100'... It's a lil strange not seeing 413 band members out there....

But it's a start, and we all understand that.

:tup::tup: Keep it up, hunnert

Band dances ... DM's dance ... How many sets of dancers do you need? This has always been one of my qualms with HBCU band tradition.

Musicians ARE NOT typically good dancers. That is why they are playing. I don't want to see musicians dance. I much prefer to see dancers dance and have musicians play. I digress.

FAMU does have a dance team but it does not march with the band. I think they are called the Diamonds.

They are approximately the right size they should be for most HBCU bands. If FAMU maintains the strict selection process for band members, its band probably would never get over the size of 250 members. Its hard to explain how Florida's other HBCU Bethune-Cookman can maintain a 400 piece band for a school that has only 3,486 students. Over 10% of the school's student body are in the band.

Oh ok didnt know that. Why dont they perform with the band

Not sure. My guess is that it is part tradition (one that I prefer) and partly that the Diamonds don't want to. The Diamonds tradition appears to be that they don't like to share the spotlight with anyone else.

FAMU has about 3 sets of dancers that perform at various school functions (football games, basketball games, etc). They are NOT affiliated with the band. Dr. Foster's vision did not call for a dance team and it's probably not something that will be considered in the foreseeable future.

As far as band size, Dr. White liked the band size to be over 300 so that's what he put on the field. Dr. Young has said he did not want a band larger than 250. I think most alum would agree that the best band's we've ever had were in the 225-250 range.

A band over 400+ for any HBCU doesn't make good economic sense. It's way too costly to house, feed, and transport that many students on any HBCU budget.
