The Real 2009 SWAC Football Preview !!!!!! Western

Uhhh, you wanna bet? If Pete wins 7 or 8 games this season, his contract will be renewed.

Dude........this aint the same board that gave him the extention last time. Tony Clayton is a grand stander......you see how he moved the JSU game against Pete's disapproval. You think he cares about Pete? LOL. As a matter of fact, there are no people in power still at SU when Pete got extended. New System President will be in place, new BR Chancellor is there, and new Board Chair with new Board Members and a AD with NO POWER. Now that Cador got all that money, I would not be shocked to see him end up as the AD soon either.

I aint even worried about ole Pete at this point. The dynamics done changed around him.

But if it makes you feel good to think he will be around after the 2010 season then go right ahead. The only thing that could save him would be a couple of those 11-1 or 10-2 seasons in 09 and 10. 7 or 8 games aint going to save him, not at his age. SU aint Penn State or Florida State.

Yeah

If Pete wins 7 this year, he will push for a new contract cause he knows whats going to happen to the team next year.

Good luck

Why do we want Pete gone?:noidea:

Its just my opinion but unless there is someone out there clearly better that can come in and do a better job it would be crazy to run Pete off. Who could have done better with the things the program has gone through from Katrina which changed our recruiting from talent pool to where we recruit forever to the financial problems of the university in which we could not afford to keep players in summer school and participate in off season workout programs which in turn was a cause for a lot of mid to late season injuries. Yes I know the coordinators leave a lot to be desired, but I think we should look at the whole picture and remember the 80's.

I agree, unless we have someone lined up be careful of what you ask for.

I was in school in the band during Pete's high times.... So I know what SU could get back to. If Tony Clayton is moving games not caring about winning but more about making money... He get rid of Pete for someone who comes in and stank the place up, he will be in trouble....

The move to Jackson all them years is very stupid....Suppose we lose this year to a sad ass JSU which would mean our year probably won't fair out more than 7 wins... Ain't nobody hitting the road to go BACK to Jackson the following year.....

But hey, we will just have to see..

Why do you want to keep him? Don't you think it is time for a younger and hungry coach to come in? New philosophy?

Look at the FBS coaches. Besides Joe Pa and Bobby Bowden......most of the coaches are in their 40s and 50s even some in their 30s.

New blood if you make the right hire is a good thing.

See that is wrong with our mentality. Some of the problems were not Pete's fault. But some of them were. If Cador can work miracles with no budget then Pete shouldn't have any excuse. Other schools were doing the same with budget issues. As for Katrina......Pete should have gotten off his arse and recruited out of state if he had too. Ms, Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Tn, Florida etc........We can't blame Katrina for all of his recruiting woes. Sure the campus and the players were affected. But so were the LSU kids from La. Miles aint allowed to use that as an excuse over there is he?

And let's talk about affording the students to go to school. Well maybe he could donate 50K of his salary back to the school. Let me stop on ideas that I have seen other coaches do. That's why I am saying he aint a progressive thinking man. But that is my opinion. I appreciate all the stuff he has done for the program but it is time for a change.

I was there in the 80s. We had talent. Look at how many SU players went to the NFL from that time. That was Otis Washington's fault. He couldn't coach. But that is what happens when you hire a coach with limited college experience. He was like Bucky was at UAPB. A great HS coach that could recruit but could not coach the talent once he had it. Then you hire Kimble after a Casem stint as coach. Kimble had no credentials either. We were not being smart in our hiring practices. Coaches like that would never even be considered now. Plus the money is different. So what you are saying we need to keep Pete until he is just too old physically because there aint no other coaches better than him out there? Believe me there are some talented coaches out there. We can't be lazy like Pete and not go out and find one. Or else we might as well just say he can coach as long as he feels like it.

Football is totally different from baseball, in baseball playing field is even with the exception of a few schools LSU, Alabama, Texas and a few others you can scrap something together and be competitive. Grambling, Jackson, PV, Northwestern, and Mcneese did not have their off season summer programs cut out and their coaches don't make that more less than Pete.

You can not compare LSU recruiting to Southern they were already recruiting on the national scene plus cherry picking the best in the state. Pete was competing for a limited pool athletes with less to offer than all of the other state schools it takes time to build new recruiting bases but now you see with the signing of the quality Houston kids and Mississippi along with the Ohio kids who will contribute big time this year Pete has adapted to the post Katrina recruiting landscape

Hey he has the facilities now lets see what he does first before we start reserving his moving truck . By the way I think we will be in B-Ham this year everything is in place talent, team chemistry, conditioning, and solid coaching with the addition of Jackie Mitchell a young energetic guy, and you will see a change in offense philosophy because there is simply more to work with at every position the offense especially on the O-Line.

Right! I dont want him gone either!

Like I said before, the "oldhead" SU folks knew what it was like before Pete. Those were horrible years, years they'd rather not take the chance on re-living.
They couldn't beat JSU for nothing. They remember the time JSU had SU as homecoming bait.:emlaugh:
Since Pete's arrival at SU, they've at least competed somewhat with Mighty JSU.
In addition to that, Pete practically owns Grambling, so that's another reason they want him to stay.

JR, you're part of the "new breed" and I understand where you're coming from.
Since I love SU so much, I say yall need to keep Pete and renew his contract one or two more times. Just my humble opinion.

Nah JayRob, I aint part of the new breed so to speak. I consider myself old school. I suffered through the 80s as a student at SU with the football team. I saw those losses firsthand every week as a member of the Juke. So I remember what is was like as well. We would be 6-5 all the time for the most part. I remember years we lost to every SWAC school in MS. The losses to the Nicholls States on homecoming. I saw that isht. So don't get me wrong. I appreciate what Pete brought to table when he arrived in 93.

I aint buying the recruiting thing because dude makes 200K......I would have gotten on a plane to every major city in the South and driven in between to find talent if my talent pool was dried up in La. It aint that hard to put out the effort to do so. Anyway I will get off my soapbox because this is the way I feel and aint no changing my mind. I want a young progressive and innovative head coach leading the Jags in 2011.
