TSU reports 5,000 but I hear there were more folks in the suites than in the stadium to watch GSU play TSU. I thought GSU was a household name? I mean, you were in the 4th largest city so the name alone is worth 10K, right?

or are you going to blame it on TSU?

face it GSU, you ain't a draw anymore.

Grambling fans (the ones left) still live in the 70's when it comes to the drawing power of their team. Sure lots know there name, but few will actually spend money on them. Right now, the number one draw in Black College football (actually getting folks in the seats) is Southern Univerisity.

Right now, Southern would draw more fans in Grambling's stadium than Grambling would.

They stayed home to watch the MCC.

Find Baton Rouge on the map, mark 250 miles in the cardinal directions. This radius is your fan base. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _LESS!!

Find St. Louis on the map, look west and draw a line Tokyo, Japan. Next, look east, and draw a line to West Africa country of Liberia. This is Icon Grambling's fan base.

Grambling is an Icon. To compare fans within a 250 miles of Baton Rouge to the global appeal of Grambling is amusing.

Nuff posted.

BF, we have sold out in Japan. Had the emperor beggin' for more. We have sold out in Gotham City so much, the Boss -- Steinbrenner -- brought his World Champion Yankess to Icon Gram to repay us.

What the hell is H-town mane?

TBF, Icon Grambling put BCF on the map in Houston. This was decades ago. Going to Astrodome is beneath us. The only reason I went was to see if I still had it in the Mercury Room. I still got it. LOL!

Re: The "No"-Con.......only 3,000 show up to watch the G-Men and Word Sham

One would think traditionless SU would have some gratitude considering the one time fans outside the 250 miles radius knows Southern University exists is due to national televised game orchestrated by the Legend and the indelible feats of his storied teams.

BD, with all your meticulous web searching, find any statement from your peers that resemble the following:

_______________________________________________

Florida A&M's Billy Joe on the legacy of Grambling:

"It ?s very important to black college football for Grambling to be good. It's fitting that Grambling is always in the upper echelon of HBCUs. For Grambling not to be competitive would take just a little bit of a spark out of HBCUs. The fact that Doug has them back adds to the aura of black college football."

Hampton athletic director Dennis Thomas:

"If you play Grambling in Cincinnati, the casual fan will come to see them. When we played Grambling in New York, we never had a bad crowd. It helps in terms of revenue and name recognition. When you play Grambling your name is out there, and that's good for your institution."

Paul Tagilbue: NFL commissioner, who is an extremely busy man, canceled all plans to be the guest speaker at the Tiger Football banquet

?When you talk about football Grambling stands up there as an Icon type of name. When you think of Grambling, you think of Notre Dame, you probably think of places like Ohio State, Oklahoma, during the Bud Wilkinson days and other institutions that are synonymous with college football.?

Lee Hardman on the Grambling tradition on his days as a player:

"Every year it was Grambling, Grambling, Grambling." All we talked about was beating the G-Men. We never did. They beat us all four years I played. My last year, in Little Rock, we had them. We were going to beat the G-Men. They ended up putting us out. With what they've done over the years, they can't lose that tradition. It's still Grambling. They're still the G-Men. Eddie Robinson did a great job of putting them at the very top. They'll always be Grambling, and rightfully so."

San Jose St. coach Fitz Hill:

"Knowing the history behind Grambling, it's a special time. "They're a great football program. I have a lot of admiration for what they've accomplished."

BCSP correspondent Roscoe Nance on the Grambling legacy:

"In football, Grambling is the one name among black colleges that nearly everyone knows. The G-Men's popularity is akin to that of the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball and the old Boston Celtics of the NBA. All three became icons in their sports by being consistent winners."

I can go on like numbers... because we are Grambling!!

Great quotes GSup, of course they're all based on successes of teams and years long gone. But you would think that would all this name recognition and "global appeal" that the alleged icon could draw more than 5000 in the nation's 4th largest city.

JN99,

Icon Gram has played in more than half the states in U.S., including Hawaii and Japan (twice). Even machines need rest. We did Dallas -- the true eye of Texas -- and sold out the Cotton Bowl. Perhaps Houston is not as sophisticated as Dallas as many Texans have told me. Even Grambling, an Icon of Greatness, can not teach sophistication in one night.
