The NFL Draft...my team needs this player

I love it that Atlanta got Julio Jones. Games will be fun for the Falcons in the Georgia Dome.

Hell you all can have that joker. And you know I'm an Ohio guy so I wanted him to kill folks. He truly disappointed me. Always hurt, dropping passes, cutting off his routes, etc.... Just sorry.

Jenkins was always the bailout WR at Ohio State. He was winning all those late games by outjumping somebody. He never ran good routes. He also had Santonio Holmes on the team with him as well as Gamble playing both offense and defense. Holmes was always the best of them Florida boys (Jenkins and Gamble were from there too) that played WR at that time. Jenkins should have went somewhere to be the number 2 WR. Not number 1. He is only 28, we would take him and pair him up with Wallace, Brown and Sanders now that Hines is at the end of his career. Limas Sweed soft arse from Texas has been a bust and Tomlin has him in the doghouse. He will join his college Qb Vince Young on the streets soon too. Jenkins would be an upgrade over that wasted pick. One of the few that Pittsburgh has messed up over the years.

Remember we trying to get to the Superbowl now, not 2 or 3 years from now. We can get some veteran defensive guys in FA. Get some veteran experience to help our 13-3 team right now.

What can a rookie on defense do for us right now? Nothing cause the only one I saw that could help us was Cameron Heyward or Peterson.

How is he old by NFL standards. LOL. Bush just turned 26 in March. He is in his prime. I doubt the Saints pay him 11 million that he is due, but he aint going to get a huge contract from any other team either. So I think he will either stay in New Orleans at a lower salary or maybe his old boss Pete Carroll wants him in Seattle to pair up with Marshawn Lynch.

Okay JR maybe I meant by my standards()...but yeah I'm willing to bet that the Saint don't give him what he wants in that contract and the only way he stays is that he don't have a big ego so we agree!

yeah the way a rookie on defense did nothing when the 49ers drafted Patrick Willis and Green Bay drafted Clay Matthews.
name one rookie on defense that would have been left to help us this year. Name one. Heyward could have but that was a gamble to see if he would have still been on the board by the 27th pick.

So mortgaging the future on a rookie WR rationalizes not taking a rookie defensive player?

For us, we didn't mortgage anything. We simply went all in with future picks. Lol and if you all knew anything then u would know that the future has no certainties. Meaning that we STILL could end up getting top picks in next year draft.

icks
Not according to them MH. We just gave up our future picks of NFL Hall of Famers.
yup, we "mortgaged" our future by passing up a 27th pick, the 59th pick, and the 124th pick this year and another 20+ pick next year. No doubt those picks would be some all-world, franchise saving hall of fame players.

Lol glad our front office don't listen to these people on this board.

If you look at the last few teams that have either won or played in the Super Bowl featured rosters laden with talent from the draft. The Colts are competitive every year because of being able to hit in the draft. Every single starter that played for the Colts in their last two trips to the Super Bowl were their own draft picks.

The Pats have been successful due to success in the draft. Green Bay had one free agent on its roster last year (Charles Woodson). Those draft picks are important. I mean, not like an established veteran player in the league, but a college player. If the Falcons were trading five draft picks to get Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson or someone of that ilk, then go for it.

To just give those away for a college player is a huge risk when there is no guarantee this guy will contribute to the success of the organization.

If it works out, hey more power to the Falcons. But if this kid is a bust, oh, boy will the second guessers come out of the woodwork.

kendrick,
You post as if the FALCONS gave up "established veteran players" to get Jones. They didn't. You keep harping on Jones being "just a college player", but so too are the players (picks) they're passing on. And true enough, we don't know (and have NEVER known) how ANY of these players will pan out til they suit up, but let's not act as if Jones was regarded as chopped liver.

I'm not saying Jones is chop liver. That guy was a really good player at Bama. I just don't know if it was the smart thing to give up five draft picks for him. I could understand if it was a QB (because that position determines the direction of the franchise for the next 10 years) Not a WR, though.

Just some perspective here. Randy Moss was traded for a fourth-round pick when he went to the Pats.

Lol!!!!

You guys can play dumb if you like. It is called having good depth with contributers. I rather take a chance with MULTIPLE PICKs than to roll the dice for just one pick. Jones can play. But just like you saw Green Bay this year. They had all those draft choices of theirs step up to the plate when injuries arose. Same in Pittsburgh when Holmes got dealt. They drafted 2 nice young WRs in late rounds that help them get to the SB. Hell one of them saved the day against Baltimore. You mortgaged your depth with the ability to draft many players. Minnesota is going to pay for it too for giving NE those picks for Randy Moss.

I could understand if yall had no WRs. But you got a pro bowl one. All you needed was another complimentary one that would stay off IR which Jenkins has done and not shown up. I still say getting another pass catching TE that could block would have helped yall even more since yall do like to run the ball. Then they could mentor under Gonzo. I like TEs that can stretch the field. LBs can't stay with them and they are too big for most safeties.

So all this mortgaging the future for HOF stuff is over the top. Nobody said you did that. We are just commenting on the we rather have Jones than 4-5 other college players if you had decided to trade down like NE does all the time. With Free Agency you need that depth. Because some of your players you currently have on that roster will be coming up for contracts soon and you will not have those picks to back fill. But if that aint the Falcons philosophy that is on them. Like I said, I am glad my Steelers don't think that way as an organization.

So u could understand giving up five picks for a QB but not a WR. Hmmmmmm........well just keep on writing articles and leave the front office decisions to front office personnel.
