Twitter Starts Mass Layoffs Under Elon Musk

It’s going to be a rough day at Twitter. The company has started laying off employees as Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, tries to cut costs at the social media platform.

Starting Thursday night, numerous Twitter staffers began bidding farewell to the company through tweets posted online.

“Looks like I’m unemployed y’all. Just got remotely logged out of my work laptop and removed from Slack,” wrote(Opens in a new window) Simon Balmain, a former senior community manager at the company.

So far, Twitter hasn’t publicly commented on the layoffs. But in an internal email, the company notified employees about the mass job cuts, which are slated to begin today, Friday, Nov. 4.

“We recognize that this will impact a number of individuals who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s success moving forward,” the email reportedly(Opens in a new window) says. The company is notifying which employees will be losing their jobs via email.

I live how these rich white folks pimp these poor hicks. They will pay him the 8.50 to be able to call minorities name thinking they're doing something.
CEE we have had folks PAY for that blue check mark to create a fake account to say Netflix's Sandman was cancelled. Not once but TWICE. And the show has been renewed weeks ago.

Why did those folks do that? Because the show stars a BLACK WOMAN playing a character that was a pale skinned woman that never identified as white.

Exactly. I found out the Twitter is the only platform that does not pay people. You have to generate your own revenue streams.

Why are people always giving billionaires money?

Elon Musk took over a struggling business with Twitter and has quickly made it worse

When Elon Musk said last week that Twitter
has experienced a “massive drop in revenue” under his recent tutelage, he blamed the decline on “activist groups pressuring advertisers.”

There was some merit to his claim. A group of civil rights leaders had sent a letter to the CEOs of major companies, including Anheuser-Busch, Apple, Coca-Cola and Disney, urging them to relay their concerns about brand safety on the site to Musk. Later, the group would call for those businesses to halt ad spending on Twitter following what its leaders saw as a rise of racist posts and hate speech.

While Musk may be right to attribute some of the revenue drop to activist pressure, at least part of the responsibility falls on him. Twitter’s new owner, the world’s richest person, recently tweeted a conspiracy theory related to the attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and has made a series of crude and sophomoric jokes, some of which he’s quickly deleted.

Businesses don’t want to link their brands with that sort of behavior and content, said Rachel Tipograph, CEO of advertising technology firm MikMak.

“There’s concerns with advertisers around brand safety, and that’s really what this is all about,” Tipograph said. “Advertisers right now are not looking to be associated with the events that are currently happening at Twitter.”

Companies such as General Motors

and Volkswagen have paused their spending on Twitter following Musk’s arrival, while advertising titan Interpublic Group recommended that its clients do the same. The boycott poses a significant problem for the social media service, which derives 90% of sales from advertising.

That's tough especially since the holidays are coming up.

Elon Musk Says That Under His Brilliant New Management, Twitter May Go Out of Business

But His Emails

In emails to his new employees, freshly-minted Twitter czar Elon Musk painted a pretty doom-tastic portrait of the road ahead for the social network's remaining employees — and told them that soon, they may all be out of a job.

Emails Musk sent to Twitter staff that were reviewed by the New York Times show that, at very least, he's repeating the same line internally as he is on his own account: Twitter needs to be monetized — or else.

"Without significant subscription revenue," the serial CEO wrote, "there is a good chance Twitter will not survive the upcoming economic downturn."

And at a company meeting today, Musk reportedly told employees that "bankruptcy isn't out of the question."
