The movie G

My wife and I saw the movie 'G' lastnight. The movie was ok, but it left more to be desired. I give the movie 2 stars out of 5.

This is the first I'm hearing of this movie. Just read the synopsis on Movies.com . Nita - it stars Richard T. Jones, Blair Underwood, Chenoa Maxwell, Andre Royo, and Andrew Lauren. Here's the synposis:

A rap mogul named Summer G has everything he could ever want, with one exception: the love of his life, who's now married to a philandering Wall Street tycoon (Underwood). He risks it all just to get her back.

The website says that it was a limited release.

I saw the movie last night, and agreeing with buckwheat it left a lot to be desired, good premise, terrible ending, but I've seen worse. Decent cast though.

For some reason, the girl who plays Kema on "The Wire" just seems like a real lesbian to me. They had her playing a single mother who was star struck, even though she was in her 30's, and she wanted men, she still seemed dykish (no offense). Maybe she's been type casted in my head, but her chracter in this movie, seemed liked the one on "The Wire" except she wasn't a cop.

It's not a must see, but if it's in your town, and you don't have anything to do for a few hours, it's work a look. If you like the "Trois" series, you'll like this move, because it's along those lines.

NICE

D-Nice, I felt the same way about the lady that played on the wire. Everytime I see her, I always think about her role in the wire. She is fine though! It's going to be hard to live down that role. The lady that Blair Underwood is married to in this movie looks like a body builder.

buckwheat, I don't know what happened to Chenoa Maxwell, age is not her friend. She was sexy as hell in "Hav Plenty", and then she sort of fell by the wayside, but you're right though, she looks as if she's been in the gym.

Maybe she needs to spend less time in the gym, and more time in the mirror, because she had it going on at one point.

NICE

Is this the movie they were promoting in Memphis at the game? I haven't seen the trailer on tv.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/5/5_8_9.gif' alt='Movie Reels' border=0></a>

Blu my sweet, since I wasn't in Memphis, I can't tell you if this was the movie they were promoting at the game, but if it was called "G", then it probably is.

Yeah, I saw the screening. I agree with the opening poster. Not bad, but it had the potential to be great and doesn't live up to it. Awesome cast. . . decent story. . .poor adaptation and treatment of subplots. . .makes the wrong kind of statement if your looking for one. I ended up having the feeling of an upscale gang banging movie. Judging from the directors and actors speil that's not what they were going for.

The sad thing is the movie was completed in 2002....and just came out....

Not out of the ordinary though. Some movie houses hold movies that have been completed years ago. They like to look at market trends before releasing them. Jamie Foxx's "Breaking All The Rules" was completed 2 years prior to it's release, but it was put on hold, because the thought was the market was flooded too heavily with black love stories.

Another thing they look at, is if the movie has potential to make some money. If it's not an independant film, some companies will look at the finished product, and decide if it's even worth spending money on promotions, because it will bomb at the box office, especially if the movie doesn't have a big named star in it. Some of the movies are lucky to even make it to the box office, because the movie house may decide to just send it straight to video, or do what they did with this movie, and open it in select markets, and not wide release. Sort of like Spike Lee's "She Hate Me."

Yeah, she was! I haven't seen her in anything since her role as Havilland Savage. That was a cool li'l flick. Some really good movies were on the big screen during those past couple of years of the last decade/century.

Love Jones
Soul Food
Have Plenty

This movie was terrible.

I didn't like one character in the movie

The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books and I've watched the movie a couple of times so I went to check it out. I'll stick to the original. There were a couple of times where I actually cringed during the movie. I was so happy to see the credits roll.

I was trying to tell some youngster what this movie is based on, and they did not have a clue what I was talking about

The samething happened when I told them "Deliver Us from Eva" is based on
"The Taming of the Shrew"

A few weeks ago I rented The Great Gatsby so my friend could see it. I was telling him about the book and I knew he would never get around to reading it. He didn't like the movie. I suggested that we go see G since it was a "hip hop" version. He LOVED it. Kept saying it was much better than the original. He was cracking up while I was sinking in my seat. I told him I have officially placed him on my "ghetto" list.
