War & Thunder
Asberry just business against Jackson State this time around...........Clarion Ledger
The last time Darrell Asberry remembered stepping inside Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium was more than a decade ago.
He was Jackson State’s offensive coordinator then. But today, he’ll be on the other sideline trying to beat his alma mater.
“I can tell you, I don’t have the same feeling I had last year,†Asberry said. “I was a lot more on the edge and tense coming into that game. But it’s a different feeling now.
“The thing this year is, ‘Hey, we need to win.’ We just need a win now for these kids. We want to talk about the university and the alumni, but these kids need this victory for themselves because they’re a resilient bunch.â€
The matchup: Jackson State vs. Texas Southern......(1-2, 1-0 SWAC), (0-2, 0-1 SWAC).......................Clarion Ledger
The Setup
Redemption couldn’t come soon enough for Jackson State.
After falling 26-16 to Tennessee State, JSU returns to conference play against Texas Southern. The game was moved from Saturday to Thursday because of TV slot time and will broadcast on ESPNU. Both programs take on their second SWAC game of the season and are coming off losses. Texas Southern fell 55-17 to Sam Houston last week and seeks its first win of the season.
JSU (1-2) takes on a Texas Southern program that is restructuring under second-year coach and former JSU quarterback Darrell Asberry. TSU has allowed 505 rushing and 427 passing yards in two games. Despite how many yards TSU has given up, JSU seeks to clean up remnants of the turnover festival it had last week
