Swiss banks to reveal names of US offshore account holders........

The curtain is being peeled back on the infamous secrecy of Swiss banks.

The largest bank in Switzerland, UBS, agreed Wednesday to reveal the names of wealthy Americans whom the authorities suspect of using offshore accounts to evade taxes.

The change in policy is the result of UBS' admitted role in conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service. As part of the agreement, the bank will pay $780 million in damages, and also close all offshore accounts of its American clients.

It is not clear how many names will be divulged, but the Feds have been looking into roughly 19,000 accounts, according to the New York Times.

The deal could mark the end of Swiss banking as we know it, as many offshore clients may no longer trust the anonymity of the country's banking system.

Prosecutors suspect that UBS helped its American clients hide $20 billion from the government, or about $300 million a year in taxes, from late 2002 to 2007. UBS has admitted that some of its employees "participated in a scheme to defraud the United States"

Well there goes all of the money in the Swiss banks. Folks will just use the West Indies banking systems more. The bank is not helping itself, that's for sure. They must have been under some real pressure for them to release these names......

Yet, what is the excitement? Doesn't affect my day to day at all.

and folks wonder why stuff isn't working right. You got a whole tax bracket missing funds. middle and lower class folks getting destroyed by taxes, but these nukkas getting over. Pull they skirts up and maybe they will be able to fix this infrastructure and what-have-you.
 
So just because someone is wealthy, and hid some money in the Alps, they are responsible for the meltdown? I just can't make that correlation.

People that make 10K will try to find ways to not pay taxes, so why is it a bigger crime if someone with more money does it? There are tax breaks, incentives, and loopholes for all tax brackets. It is just a matter of finding them. I know the rich can afford to pay someone to find them, but the not so rich can do the work themselves and find some breaks too...

I understand your point, But this wasn't a loop hole, this was outright illegal.

People have been hiding money is Swiss bank account's since bank's were formed.
The only thing that is shocking about this is the SWISS government said they would turn over the names on these account's.

You dayum skippy I have, and if you haven't, then you need to read the tax code. I make the law work for me. I will find every loophole, deduction, tax break, tax shelter, etc that I can find.

After I stopped being able to use an EZ form, I started to try and finds ways to keep my money in my pocket.

GSU4Life, I get that some of this was illegal, and I am not condoning the illegal nature. I am just not delighting in the idea of the Swiss revealing these names.

In the article it states that when the bank changed hands, it went out of its way to help the US citizens defraud the government. That is what got them in trouble and put them in a position to have to reveal the names.

I guess I'm too much of a good Christian that believe in the honor system, because loopholes are like looking for that opening in the fence to get in the game for free or finding the key to your final exam so you don't have to study to pass your class. Seems like a lot of Republicans used loopholes to get to the top. "The Party of Loopholes"

Most of the time I agree with you but this time I don't. A legal loophole is more like me using a advanced mathematical forumla while you stick to the old fashion method. If everyday folks took time to read about these things then they would know. That's the real problem. Most folks lack a financial education.

I'll explain it on your level so I won't offend you and others.:) It's called the "New World Order" or "One World Government". The people leading the charge are operating behind closed doors. They are called "International Bankers/Federal Reserve". Their goal is to control the world through their organizations called the "United Nations/Foreign Council Relations". Everything is on schedule just like God stated it would be. America is being robbed daily and will soon be stripped bare once the FCR gives Obama the nod to disarm America. Things are happening very fast and the world doesn't have a clue. I'm just sitting back and watching prophecy unfold before my eyes. I'm also waiting for Obama to keep his promise in the video below about our National Defense.....he will.:lecture:

You have the right to disagree, which I do agree there are legal loopholes, but the two words LEGAL LOOPHOLES together are like an oxymoron to me. Maybe I understand the Theory of Equilibrium too much as it applies to finances, which is the state of being financially balance. In order words, cash flow in must equal cash flow out in order to maintain a balance in the flow of cash and creating loopholes, legal or not causes the instability in the flow of cash. Anytime there's an unstable situation, something real bad is bound to happen. Therefore, the economy got real bad due to bad financial decisions, such as legal loopholes, deregulations, and other factors.

The country wasn't defenseless. It was more liked being ill-prepared. If the United States were defenseless, the Japanese Navy could have continued their attack to the west coast, which was almost impossible for them to do since they didn’t have enough natural resources. But mysteriously the United States 3 aircraft carriers were out to sea on December 7, 1941 and didn't receive a scratch, which later were the single reason why the United States defeated the Japanese at Midway, resulting in the sinking of all four large active carriers in the Japanese's Navy. Later, the United States started an island hopping campaign to remove the Japanese's power in the Pacific.

Not being prepared is the same thing as being defenseless. The end result will always turn out wrong. Keep your eyes on the United Nations because our military is under UN direction, and have been since Clinton gave it over to the UN.
