The Great Debaters???

Re: The Great Debater Movie: Denzel & Forrest

Wow, looks like a nice feel-good movie, for Christmas. Of course, I'll be there w/bells on...I love Denzel to death. :ebrow:

He directed this and Oprah produced it...awesome!

Can't wait to see it!!! It'll be the family's Christmas Day movie together.

Re: The Great Debater Movie: Denzel & Forrest

Looks good. I will definitely check it out.

Re: The Great Debater Movie: Denzel & Forrest

This looks a great movie. I'm a fan of both Denzel and Forrest. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: The Great Debater Movie: Denzel & Forrest

I heard Denzel praise Texas Southern University as having one of the best debate programs in the nation. He indicated he sent his cast to TSU to get direction and training. Great Job of the Debate Team bringing positive news about TSU to the nation. Denzel was a guest of on Jay Leno on Thursday night.

They recieved training from the world wide known Texas Southern debate team...

Yeah, I recall hearing that Washington visited TSU to research for the role. I'm sure Dr. Freeman schooled him.

Re: The Great Debater Movie: Denzel & Forrest

I wonder if this movie is going to generate any award buzz as well. The Golden Globes and Academy Award voters love biopics, movies about dead musicians and movies with the protagonist with mental disability.

I can't wait to see this movie. Should be very powerful and moving, just the kind of movie "the system" will put in 500 theatres nationwide while some dumb-arse crap like Beerfest gets 3,000 theatres.

Re: The Great Debater Movie: Denzel & Forrest

BTW: Melvin Tolson's son is/was a history professor at Southern. Kept telling us to "read and re-read the chapter"...

Denzel's movie ..........Is this movie based on Texas So. debate team????
C-Leb???? or any TSU alums

Wiley was a SWAC School years ago.

I think it was the pre-50s if memory serves correct.

The movie details Wiley College, Marshall, Texas and their strife from back in the gap. Man, it's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much HBCU history down south until it's not even funny. Denzel could make a GRIP just on re-enacting some of those past transgressions.

BTW, the movie was filmed in the greater Shreveport area. :)

To be more specific it was Mansfield, Louisiana. Mansfield is a small town in Desoto Parish about 30 miles south of Shreveport. I put that out there just in case some body wanted to know those type details. I am interested in seeing the movie since I live here in Mansfield. No, I don?t have a Denzel Washington lie to tell. :)

I heard on Tom Joyner that Oprah Winfrey produced and Denzel W. and Forrest W. directed. Denzel stars in it......but the kicker is this...

A kid in the movie is named Denzel Whittaker. How eery is that?

I can't wait to see it.

This movie was great for all HBCUs. I'm disappointed that it only made 3.6 million on its opening day and even more disappointed that MGM only released it to 1,100 screens.
