JaguarNation99 - No I-AA PWC conference will have games televised nationally live on a weekly basis.

Jaguar Nation - I think you should review the numbers of the ACC football contract before you make such a claim

HBCUs should get paid UP FRONT by ANY networks for the priviledg e of switching game dates from Saturday to Thursday night.

In the contxt of the millions of dollars in television revenue generated by college sports, why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?

I won't even get into the absurdity of you comparing the SWAC to the ACC, my comment was simply no PWC conference on OUR level has a television package that comes close to comparing to what we've received. But basically you're saying, not only should they pay us for the honor and privilege of showing our games, but we should get paid more for moving a few games from Saturday to Thursday? It was understood that some games would be moved to Thursday when the contract was negotiated. If ESPN all of a sudden decided to move games after the contract was signed, and no other conferences were moving games, then you might come close to having a valid complaint.

JaguarNation99 - a clear and unflinching YES. Is it your understanding that broadcast rights are paid specifically for any conditions or changes to a schedule that are needed to make a game conform to television. ?

What is the tangible benefit of going on television if its not money?

If schools/ conferences are not receiving some form of guaranteed up front payment, especially in the light of ESPN(U) is owned by one of the most "cashed-up" companies in the universe... Disney..... is the overplayed "exposure" card REALLY all you want to settle for?

C'mon now .

"I won't even get into the absurdity of you comparing the SWAC to the ACC, "

JaguarNation99 - we're talking potential viewing audience here. This is about broadcast. metrics.. not simply football. The audience numbers (the only thing that matters to sponsors) are not so absurd when one considers how voracious African Americans are when it comes to how we consume television.

Check the demographics of viewer numbers for American Idol.

Mister.Earl,

PLEEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSSSEEEEEEE, tell us you are making your assesments on factually-known information? Other than that you are just speculating and assuming. I mean you talk as if you have the contract sitting on your kitchen table for you to review over. You don't know what the contract says. Maybe the schools are being paid up front.

How can you compare the numbers of viewers in HBCU Football to that of the ACC? The die hard HBCU fan is also watching SEC, ACC, BigXII football. Where is this new audience you keep referring to coming from?

The agreement to play on Thursday was fully coordinated with our faithful members. We had not planned to purchase new windsuits for 2005, but dress out in golf type pull overs. As you recall the last time we played GSU in the boot the heat was unbearable. Because we agreed to play on Thurs, we decided to dress out in short sleeves and short pants. I am sure Robber will have his camera at the game.

AAMU did SU a favor by taking them to Indy, now we want to ensure Bruce get seen on National TV. I am glad most of you can now see the value of having AAMU in the SWAC. The media waited years to see AAMU move up so they could highlite us on TV. We will have the only game played that night.

Hope you all haven't made Iron-clad plans for the Thursday night game.

I'm sitting here laughing at you guys speculate on how contracts work for TV. If I wasn't a fan and didn't want to embarrass my people I would show some of our marketing team and lawyers that draw up the contracts what you guys speculate happens in them. :lmao:

Only a few of you are close and the closest to what really happens has been Jafus. I wonder how he knows so much....

Mike,

I am bless and lucky enough to have business partners and associates that I call regularly to pool their talents together to fully implement a project plan, which many in the business sector would label as subject-matter-experts (i.e. they have experience in their respective professional fields of studies).

Continued thanks for your support in THG Agency's endeavors. (Smile!)

If any of you had paid attention to anything that I have said in the past about dealing with the networks you wouldn't have to ASSume so much. I have dayum near told you how the inner working are done. I told folks a few years ago that there would be soon a possibilty for the SWAC or schools within the SWAC to make a deal with the sports networks. I even went so far as to tell most of you how you go about working the deal to maximize the return. Funny thing about it is that someone from the SWAC office did pay attention to what I said on this board and they tried to implement it. The only thing that I've seen them do wrong was not hire the right people for the job of dealing with the contracts. Not saying that the people they hired were not good. They are just too hungry and too eager to make a deal possible and not jump on a deal when it meets their stipulations just because they think that's all they can get.

At any rate, there is still room for growth and they are actually gonna need to sit down and restructure things when they see the mistakes that may have been made. I'm still waiting to find out what rights were given away. If it is what I think, they have made one of the biggest mistakes you can make in a first contract. From the size of the deal, they should have something to go with each game, like a weekly pregame or SWAC show.

These networks are new and need content. If you don't jump on them at the beginning you have a hard time getting anything out of them later. That's unless you have the right people negotiating. We already know how things are done in the conference, so I don't need to tell you how forward thinking is not one of our best suits.

Cheap things ain't good and Good things aren't always Cheap!

That's all I have to say. Holla!

Translation = I really don't have a clue how these contracts work either but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Seriously, I want to know. If you did explain it I missed it. How do they work?

Talk to Jafus. I'm not typing all that up.

If I slept at an Holiday Inn Express last night I would probably be the TSPN Administrator.

Seriously...Most of these contracts circulate around rights, but if you don't know your rights then you doom your contracts to being limited to the amount you can make at later dates for renegotiation. From the looks of things the SWAC has made a starter deal. Meaning they get air time and paid. But, they aren't in a long term deal, because the network needs to make sure that it is worth the money. Southland has a 10 year deal with Fox Sports that they signed after a three year deal.
