Now I know it's taking me quite some time to complete this book but er um, I'm almost there. A sister's been busy. I've got about 5 more chapters and it'll be all good. The book is slammin' by the way. Can't wait to see what's gonna happen next.

I read two and a half books while I was gone too.
1. Resurrecting Mingus
2. Lil Mama's Rules
3. Sorority Sisters (half of it)

Kellis, there is a new book out by the Sorority Sisters author too. I can't think of the name of it. I'll read it when I finish Sorority Sisters.
 
This Book again

It seems like we talk about this book every 3 or 4 mths.


We should have a never-ending thread on the books that we have read and discussed and just add on to that.

It is a really great book and the movie will be out next year.

ITA! I had the opportunity to speak with Sistah Souljah during her visit to Houston, a couple of months ago. She said that she is working with Jada P-Smith on the movie. I simply cannot wait until its release. I also asked her about the possibility of a sequel and her reply was, "there is a possibility". I am too excited, b/c Winter was a bad arse B_ _ _ _!

I saw it in my "Black Expressions magazine". I am giving too much money to these book clubs and bookstores only to read each book in a day or two.
 
Oldie But Goodie

Guys, another great book is Good Hair (published in 1996), by Benilde Little. It was a National BestSeller as well as her book, The Itch. These are excellent books.

I'll just print it out and get all these titles y'all naming. That's why we need a women's forum up in hea. Looks like we're the only ones that read.

I spoke with her about a year ago about this book. She even autographed my copy. She was selling them at her speaking engagments at the time. Now I see it's on the best seller list. I'm proud of the sister. I thought it was a good book, but not a great book. But I see I'm in the minority with that opinion. I'd be interested in seeing the movie, but can't say it's a must see.

I see you've completed and enjoyed the book. I told you that her writing style is not one dimensional. She brought up some important issues. Now on to the next read...:swink:

dayum man are you people just getting to Winter Santiago......man you will never get to read some of the btter books that came out this year alone!!

But you people actually liked sorority sisters? Man that book was horrible. I think TJ needs to try again. I have seen her new book on the shelf, but I am hesistant to buy it.

and I am starting This Side of Eternity by Ros McMillan. And Dazed and Confused, by Nupe Tony Martin. Who I met this summer and he gave me some serious insight on my book. My reading has been taperd by the fact that I am back in school now, but over the X-mas holidays I will read 5-8 books. Gotta make up for lost time. I think all of my extra money goes towards books and football games............

Umm d-town...as long as it takes you top read one book, I don't think you need to include your self in that group of women readers that you spoke of.

Anyway...i am an avid reader. And have been such since my early college years. I am usually reading a book for entertainment and one for the knowledge. The knowledge books usually take a little longer to read, because you gotta highlight and pay more attention. But there is nothing like some good fiction. I have read so many stories that many times I start to get them all mixed up in my mind..........
