I am a health insurance broker, and I partner with a lot of churches for their health & wellness initiatives. In my role, I help people get connected with Medicare programs and health plans if they have the resources. For those with less money, i help them get connected with Medicaid plans and local health clinics. As we speak I am in the process of putting together an event with Live Orlando, where Tye Tribbett is the pastor.
Other parishioners may administer flu shots, mobile mammograms, blood bank donations and so forth. Some have registered dietitians come in and teach healthy eating habits. Some have their own gyms. And I'm talking some black churches, but mostly multicultural (Black, Hispanic, Hatian).
But I can't knock someone who's not a follower of Christ after growing up in a church that was doing a lot of taking, but not a lot of giving. That was my life coming up in MS; having my mom drag me to some of these bum churches with rogue pastors.....I could see through the BS at 10 years old. LOL. But as an adult, I realized that there are some churches out there doing great things so I got connected with one.
