I disagree, B'Ham is the biggest city in Alabama ... it's only right the biggest HBCU football classic is in the biggest city in the state. And it's centrally located which makes travel fair for both schools and those who fly-in. Birmingham has the best airport in the state I would imagine.

They would be losing money. Both stadiums hold at most 25K ... in Birmingham it inches towards 70K. Do I need to go further?
 
I am not concerned with being the biggest HBCU classic. From a financial standpoint you could potentially have a million dollar event in your backyard every other year.

"po" tentially with the schools taking on more risk financially and will the luster of the event extend to those cities ad will sponsors want to spend for a smaller venue in a smaller city with less eyeballs?
 
I don't think the city of Huntsville would want the classic to come here. It would be seen as a nuisance and they would construct every ordinance to water down the event IMO
 
Unfortunately our schools don't understand how to handle large events like this. Also the rednecks in Huntsville will not be kind to that many black people in their city. They can barely handle homecoming......

22,000 AAMU stadium capacity

65,000 plus attend the MCC .

just to match ticket revenue, ticket prices would have to be more than doubled, I am not even going to talking about sponsorship money.

The street committee has fantasy about home and home, they don't do the math.

A home and Home matchup would increase season ticket sales to offset the loss revenue.

A increase of season ticket sales would offset the revenue loss. The only way to guarantee seat in the home and Home series would be to buy a season ticket

The move to home and home would not be advantageous to the schools. As pointed out, the smaller campus stadium sizes would lessen the ticket revenue. Second, a large part of the ticket sales comes from local residents unaffiliated with either school. Those local people come to the game simply because it is in B'ham...they would not likely travel to H'ville or Montgomery for a game. Third, much revenue comes from local sponsors that would not be duplicated in the home stadiums. That sponsorship is why the skyboxes are filled with people who are not necessarily affiliated with either school. The sponsors control the boxes and give free tickets to employees and others. Fourth, B'ham put more resources into the event than we could expect from the other cities. Last, the other cities probably could not accommodate all the events currently associated with the game.

I do agree that the game should be moved for a couple of years to change negotiating posture with the city. This time could be used to organize the the control of the game and revenue streams. That would allow us to eventually get most of the profits and allow B'ham large enough profits to justify hosting the game and events.
 
The numbers don’t add up. I see the revenue numbers, at less than half of ticket sales and less money from sponsors, it does not add up. Home and both schools splitting over a million dollars each year, home and will reproduce that revenue stream, you have to show me the math.

I see fantasy, but no reality.

The cities of Montgomery and Huntsville kicking in $300,000 - no way

Look, I am not expecting to match the current magnitude out the gate. Legion field is not going to stand for ever and i don't see the city replacing it. If uab is able to get a stadium r they going to host the MCC? We need to be proactive. Start making plans for the future. Infrastructure, traffic control, off site tail gating with shuttles. You have to start some where. Also keep in mind of the future political climate, we may not have friends.

If the host University could get $1m every other year the cost in enrollment and marketing would take such a large hit. Let's say 35k people are at game or around annually versus 90k to 100k people. The difference in terms of marketing is way too high.

How are you getting 35,000 people in stadiums that have a capacity of 27,000 and 22,000?

Amen. It's amazing how these PWI's know that there is a such thing called "demand and expand" when it comes to their establishments. We just get caught up in the show.
 
One thing for sure, I haven't heard Jay 'Sky Sexual Intellect' Walker say on ESPN how good the bbq at MCC will be this year or how fine those Honey Bees are. Do ya'll think his silence has something to do with Dr. Boyd being fired??? LOL!!!

Jay walker gets a Rv with his clique to tailgate..he says they started doing it a few years back. I'm surprised you missed that memo...Jay has become one with the Bbq lol
