My school district has career institutes where kids can get an associate degree or certification before graduation. We also have collegiate academies. We got about 2000-3000 kids leaving with those degrees and certifications.
I will let you guess what race the majority of those are.
The high school that my school feeds into does cooking, health and now fire fighters academies. It is STILL a battle to get our kids to go there. A school that is a B rated school. Everyone wants to go to the school that won in sports down the street. Not for its programs and a B rated campus but because they won in sports.

LMAO....those are some funny stories. It sounds like some of our young people are not impressed the least bit by manual labor.
I wonder if perception is the problem. Do they see that kind of work as skilled labor being done by skilled craftsman, for good wages, or something that is beneath them.

I had my son work with me two straight summers and he was doing pretty good. I am not the easiest person to work for I will admit but he was learing from the ground up.
