A Capitol Police officer who was injured on January 6, 2021, said Republican lawmakers ignore him.

Sgt. Aquilino Gonell told MSNBC that the very people he protected that day now "avoid him."

The only exceptions, he said, are GOP Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.

A Capitol Police officer who was so badly beaten during the January 6, 2021, insurrection that he decided to retire from law enforcement, said all but two Republican lawmakers "avoid" him and "pretend not to see" him in the halls of Congress.

Retired Sgt. Aquilino Gonell said during a Thursday appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that the trauma from that day lingers more than a year later.

"For some people, that day came and went, and for me, to this day, I'm still dealing with those ramifications," Gonell said. "You try to adapt to your new normal, but it's hard."

Twitter is running with Josh Hawley's solidarity fist and flee moment during January 6 hearing

😁 😁 😁

  • The Jan. 6 committee showed the photo of Sen. Josh Hawley raising his fist in solidarity with protesters.
  • Then they played a video of him running from the protesters he helped rile.
  • Twitter users had a field day with chicken, Forrest Gump and running gifs, some set to music.
Twitter users had a field day with Sen. Josh Hawley's cameo role during Thursday's January 6 committee hearing.

The committee showed the now-infamous photo of the Missouri Republican raising his fist in solidarity with protesters gathered outside security gates as he walked across the East front of the US Capitol from a safe space behind barriers.

Then, they showed a video of Hawley running away after the protesters he helped rile stormed the US Capitol.

That's when the chicken, Forrest Gump and running gifs, including some set to music, fired up Twitter. Here are some reactions:

Steve Bannon Found Guilty Of Contempt Of Congress

A federal jury on Friday found former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon guiltyof contempt for ignoring subpoenas from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.

After three hours of deliberations, the jury found Bannon guilty on two counts of contempt of Congress, which carry a minimum sentence of 30 days behind bars and fines of up to $100,000.

Bannon’s team rested their case on Thursday without calling any defense witnesses — including Bannon himself — and instead asked the judge to acquit him, according to The Associated Press.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Molly Gaston said during closing arguments that the subpoenas were straightforward and that Bannon chose to blow them off.

“Our government only works if people show up. It only works if people play by the rules, and it only works if people are held accountable when they do not,” Gaston said, according to NBC News.

Video shows Jan. 6 hearing room burst into laughter when shown footage of Josh Hawley fleeing the Capitol riot

Attendees at Thursday's January 6 committee hearing erupted into laughter when they were shown footage of GOP Sen. Josh Hawley fleeing the Capitol during the insurrection.

Rep. Elaine Luria, a Democrat on the committee, said that hours before fleeing, Hawley was seen raising his fist "in solidarity" with the protesters, and that a Capitol Police officer told the panel that the gesture "riled up the crowd."

"Later that day, Senator Hawley fled after those protesters he helped rile up stormed the Capitol," Luria said. "See for yourself."

The committee then played never-seen-before footage of Hawley running across a hallway and down a flight of stairs as the Capitol riot was underway.

Yet another person from Donald Trump's inner circle is going to federal prison? Lock him up! 👍

Trump looked surprised when his supporters loudly booed him at an Arizona rally over his Congress endorsement

Trump was booed by supporters at an Arizona rally after mentioning his endorsement of Congressional candidate Eli Crane.

Trump appeared bewildered by the booing and asked: "But you like me, right?"

Crane is one of seven candidates in the GOP primary, which include QAnon activist Ron Watkins.

Former President Donald Trump appeared flustered when he was booed at a rally in Arizona on Friday when speaking about one of his recent Congress endorsements.

Trump, used to adulation from his super-loyal MAGA followers, looked uncomfortable when he hyped Eli Crane, a candidate in the Arizona GOP congressional primary, and the crowd responded negatively, in large part.

"And a highly respected man, just endorsed by me today, future congressman for the 2nd District, Eli Crane," Trump said, prompting boos from the crowd.

The former president appeared surprised and repeatedly looked towards the source of the booing before smiling awkwardly.

He will appeal and it will languish in the courts...
How do you appeal being guilty of contempt of Congress for ignoring subpoenas? That sounds like the perfect definition of an open and shut case.
Especially if there's proof that Bannon is on record saying he's going to ignore the subpoenas.
