Texas Southern's Board of Regents are Trash!

I hope all TSU alums know that we're the only, let me emphasize ONLY, independent institution in Texas that has a board of regents dominated by non-TSU alums. And the TSU alums we have only completed their law and MBA degrees there. And I'm not saying they're less of an alum but their familiarity and connection with the school isn't as strong as someone who lived on campus for 4+ years and/or attended TSU in undergrad.

Also a good portion of our dumb ass board of regents appointed by our dumb ass governor don't even show up to the meetings ... but then again why should they? They are not invested at all in the university. And most of those who do show up offer nothing of substance to the meetings and are silent/distracted most of the time. Dr. Lane can't say anything b/c he answers to the board ... they hired him and it seems like he loves his job. It's a hot mess, most of the people on the board shouldn't be. Basically one or two board members do all the talking and decision making from what I see from videos posted on YouTube.

I'm planning to petition the governor to make changes immediately or I'm going to recommend the TSU National Alumni Association file a lawsuit on the grounds of negligence and discrimination (it's no coincidence the mostly black school gets the backwards treatment). In my opinion, TODAY the only SWAC schools that can compete with TSU when it comes to innovative research, endowment, resources, attracting top students/professors, and strong academics are Jackson State and Prairie View. So we're headed in the right direction but we can do way much better with better regent leadership.

Here is the board of regents (for a lack of better words):

I support you bro. We (jsu alumni) just did the same thing here n Mississippi. We filed a Discrimination lawsuit against IHL (state of Mississippi). It's no coincidence that all the new hbcu presidents hired under Dr. Boyce and IHL have IHL connections but all PWI presidents in the state were chosen through a true national search. It's like they get people they already know and whom they feel can be controlled to become president of HBCU's in the state. But they actually pick the presidents of the PWI's from a national pool. It's like they are afraid to choose outsiders in a fear that they might actually do a great job and progress the hbcu versus PWI presidents are actually chosen nationally for that same reason. The reason of MAKING SURE the PWI doesn't miss a beat. Valley/ Alcorn presidents were IHL puppets and were affiliated with IHL prior to the position. So man y'all do what you all must do to keep our HBCU's alive and well. It's time out for this BS.

I love it! To me Jackson State is one of the premier institutions in Mississippi and is finally getting the respect it deserves. Jackson State is the highest ranked HBCU in the SWAC and the closest one to being in the top 10. Apple acknowledges the schools for its use of technology. Research is growing annually. The campus is amazing. The students are very competitive. JSU is headed in the right direction but we (HBCUs) still must fight every step of the way ... the path is more challenging for us.

But yeah you CAN NEVER TRUST these whyt people and their lackeys especially in a state that 90% of white people identify as Republican (Racist).

Sounds like the usual. Not too happy with the school's governing board.

It's not the usual in Texas. I have several family members that are graduate of SU so I keep up with them as well ... the Louisiana governor visited SU recently which is a big deal. I can't tell you the last time our governor set foot on campus, let alone toured the campus.

Board of Regent and Chairman J. Paul Johnson (a TSU undergrad alum) was in charge when Priscilla got "outed".

I was TSUNAA president when we recommended to the Governor and asked well respected and Fortune 500 related alums to serve...
