Texas Southern Withdraws From SWAC Tournament

I think 8 and 9 were supposed to play. There's not a 10th seed since PB isn't in the tournament.

Additionally, the only reason why TSU is not playing this week is because you don't have enough players available to put 5 on the court. That "decision" to remove them from the tournament had already been made by the result of the SWAC suspensions. Let's be clear about that.

CLEARly you did not read. Texas Southern, if it so chose, could have fielded a team of eligible athletes for a game.

Yeah I was wondering which one of those lies he was going to stick with.

The altercation between the women's basketball teams from Texas Southern and Southern Saturday night has cost TSU the chance to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Dr. Charles McClelland, vice president for intercollegiate athletics at TSU, said the Southwestern Athletic Conference has suspended eight members of the TSU women's basketball team in the wake of that altercation during a key conference game in the HP and E Arena.

"The SWAC has decided, in conjunction with us, that everyone that was participating in the altercation, as far as throwing punches, will be suspended," McClelland said in an interview with FOX26 SPORTS.

"Right now that's eight individuals, and because there are eight that are involved, we have ten members on our team, Texas Southern has decided we are not going to participate in the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament championship.

The SWAC Tournament is this week at Toyota Center.

McClelland said he has no issues with the SWAC's decision.

"We won't be able to field a competitive team, but also the severity of the indicident is of deep concern to us," McClelland said. "We want to make sure that we send the right message and give the proper guidance to those young ladies.

I am sure pressure from the Houston Sports Authority and TSU's withdrawal is really behind the reinstatement.

Could not afford for both Southern and Texas Southern women not to play.

Um. The ones who are suspended threw a damn punch. Not everybody who ran on the floor, went out there to fight. Some were breaking it up. Why suspend them for it?

They had no purpose running on the floor. Nobody can deny that the player who missed the layup didn't make physical contact with a TSU player.
 
Rules are applied by the governing body, base on THEIR investigation and advice given.

Not on a fans opinion.

Why is it so important that a few SU players, some of you claim to have ran on the floor and didn't get suspended,get suspended? But no one is concern or made any reference to the three to four TSU players attacking one young lady violently, not only did they not get dismiss from the team, but was never suspended by their coach or AD?

Other than the fact they play for SU, what's the difference?

Should TSU mascot also get suspended?
