Honestly, I did not see this move coming. I thought he would get another year. Then again I do not follow what happens at A&M every single day.
The problem for TAMU was their defense. It is not the Wrecking Crew of years past.
Interestingly enough, Rick Perry’s (Texas A&M graduate) name keep arising.
I have not heard much, but from what I am reading, things look like a mess in College Station.

Ex-A&M coach Sherman contends he didn't deserve firing

COLLEGE STATION – Mike Sherman told Texas A&M goodbye on Friday, and indications are his boss might not be far behind.
"Do I feel I deserve to be terminated? No, I don't," Sherman said in a press conference the day following his firing. "This program is headed in the right direction. But I understand we live in a society where it's easier to change than to fix."
Meanwhile an A&M insider said Friday that based on recent turmoil in the athletic department and a growing divide between the athletic department and university administration, that longtime athletic director Bill Byrne also will be dismissed or perhaps resign, possibly within the month.
Byrne's right-hand man, senior associate athletic director Jeff Toole, was discovered this past week sending what he thought were anonymous posts on an Internet message board ridiculing university president R. Bowen Loftin – dubbing him a "putz," "hopelessly underachieving puppet" and "idiot" – while at the same time praising Sherman's 25-25 tenure.
Loftin was responsible for A&M's recent move the Southeastern Conference starting in July 2012, and ultimately for dismissing Sherman, who on Friday profusely thanked Byrne for his support.
…..
Byrne, whose contract is up in 2013, played a minimal role in the Aggies' SEC entrance, and steadfastly supported Sherman all the way up until the coach's firing by Loftin on Thursday night. Sherman said he found out he'd been fired while pulling up to a recruit's driveway in Houston on Thursday in fielding a cell phone call from Byrne.
…..
Rick Perry appointed the Regents, and he will only appoint puppets. They appointed Loftin, so he is also a puppet, and a highly underqualified one as pointed out by Mr. Toole. Mr. Byrne has done a lot of good for Aggie Athletics, for all sports not just football. To get rid of him just to asuage Loftin's ridiculous ego would be a tragedy.
Do any of you think this will help in the recruiting of a top flight Coach to come to A&M? Honestly if I'm anything but a desperate coach I'm not coming to A&M to be treated the way Sherman was. Pretty chicken poop to not sign the contract Sherman signed in July and use that as a reason to not pay what you promised him. I hope Sherman sues for the rest of what hes owed. I think the coaching search isn't going to be as easy as throwing high profile names around, all those coaches just saw how A&M handles business.
As an Aggie, I deeply regret Coach Sherman's dismissal. He was a class act and, despite events of the 2011 season, was moving the program in the right direction.
Pooooooor Aggies. Y'all just do not know how to treat classy people. R.C. built your program from a bunch of dirt farmers into a legit team, and you canned him b/c he couldn't "take the next step." You finally got another classy coach, and you can him. Yeah, I know, 25 - 25 is not good, but you should have given him a shot in the SEC. The last thing you want to do is start out in a new conference w/ a coach who is still trying to locate the faculty restroom. Best of luck . . . remember, we make our own luck.
Hook 'em!
I don't wish anything bad on Coach Sherman, I too am a coach at the high school level. One of my players is currently on the aggie roster, one at UT, one at LSU. I have been at games where seniors are recognized for their service at UT and AM. I haven't been to the LSU game where seniors are recognized but have been on the sideline at LSU and see how MIles players interact with him. At both UT and LSU the players show a GENUINE care for their head coach. I never have witnessed this at AM under SHerman. It is similar to how UT players treated Makovic (sp), cold. Football is an emotional game, and if the players don't like their head coach, they won't perform to their utmost. The most recent coach who coaches out of FEAR with success is SABAN. He wins but the ends DOES NOT justify the means. SABAN will soon burn his bridge at bama because of this. SHerman doesn't coach out of fear, but there is no CARE. If it is Sumlin, and I think it is, AM will be better off because his players truly care for him. IF they do they perform ALL game, not just the first half. Just my opinion from twenty eight years of coaching.
