Teacher drags HEADSTAR child down the hallway

Home schooling is not that difficult. Yes, the kid is taking online classes OR you can create that consortium and teach in small groups--get 1 teacher and a group of kids so those who work, still can. What I see, is black folks esp get this gut reaction when they hear homeschooling. It's like to many-- my folks had that little one room school in the woods and we don't want to go backwards...but homeschooling appears to be WAY different. These kids are scoring off the charts! I think some need to work on interpersonal skills, but overall, they have book sense, common sense...just blunt and gruff to me.

I know this guy in my hometown did it with all his children. They got scholarships galore, played 3 or 4 instruments each, spoke a few languages.....and they never darkened the school's doors. I'm seeing more and more of my colleagues doing this and setting up these small group learning settings...and again, the kids are doing marvelously...

Doesn't appear to be expensive: http://a2zhomeschooling.com/materials/curriculum_shop/free_curriculum/lesson_plans_free/

The interpersonal skills is concerning to me. I have had some interactions with some home schooled kids and you can tell that they have difficulty relating to kids who attend a conventional school.

But it goes back to what I was saying, that helps individual children or families, but does nothing to help the vast majority of black youth. It's fine to pursue that for your own children, but the majority of children are going to be in public or charter schools.

I was just about to post this....what does home schooling and private schooling do for the majority?

We've been doing this save the world concept for a while....how about at least attempting the, Imma make my corner of the world shine so other may consider shining like we are for a change. Y'all wanting a system to change for the better when there is no concerted effort to do so....

Maybe on your corner of the world there isn't, but I know several of my fellow educators are doing their best to make changes in these kids' lives for the better.

Untrue, the teacher could have done what one of my teachers did to a high school class mate and guy I grew up with...went to church with and I know he wasn't taught to disrespect grownups. She flunked his ass!

If that child is SPED-you can not do that. You want a lawsuit and be out of a job-try to do that without documentation of how you tried to help the kid.

It has made some public schools WORST. If your top kids are in private, home, charter or magnet schools-you leave others open to larger number of Pookie & Ray Ray kids.

A parent like CT is not there to raise hell, go off on the school board, fight for rights and all the rest that I see with everyone else. Instead you Momma who only cares about school as long as she gets a check or the ones who have no trouble beating up kids or teachers.

Teachers-yes the majority are WHITE because that is who is applying or running to teach for america (for a 3 year contract before running to corporate america or school administration). We can't help but to get folks off the street because no one wants to teach especially in the hood.

Suspensions-what are these black boys doing to get suspended? I can understand if you got too many getting tossed out for minor CRAP but a lot of them are NOT. For many it's not just one thing but MANY. Privacy laws protect kids from what they are tossed out for from being public. Ask how many times Pookie cussed out every single staffer in the school or beat 4-5 adults?

And how many kids have not been tested for learning disabilities? It does not mean toss them in SPED but if that kid has a autism or whatever-getting that dealt with might stop the behavior. Now in some cases it's the school district-we have a back log of 1,000 kids needing to be tested since last year with 2,000 for this year. The folks who do the testing are a HARD TO STAFF job-because it requires so many degrees and certifications.

Also what are the polices of the district? What gets you expelled in Dallas might not in Austin and vice versa.

How do other races keep the suspension rates low? They LEAVE the school before the paperwork can be completed and go to another school or rehab. Hard to punish a kid who is in rehab or gone. We don't do that or can't as I have learned when other schools play hard to get into.

Why are white schools in better space? Parents like CT are there in large numbers. So they get what they want.

We just had a school board election. One in white folks area and one in the hood.

2,000 voted in the hood. 6,000 voted in the white area and will have a runoff for the third straight year.

Mind you we had MAJOR seats on city councils up for grabs in Dallas-Tarrant County. That 6,000 was the HIGHEST voter turn out.

This is HEADSTART- 3 - 5 years old. If you can't control that child, you should change your profession. But your mindset is exactly what I mentioned...she is dragging a child down a nasty ass hallway and you really don't see a problem with it because the child might be so bad they deserved it. We MUST do, think, act better about our children.

I have a very high tolerance for children. WAY more than most so if I get to that point.....

It's just very hard for me, years removed away from that type of setting, to see and hear the things I see and hear. We were SCARED to death at MY school to act up. ... and LAWD.. when they said PRINCIPAL? That was heart attack, fall out on the floor time... LOL My elementary principal had a yard stick and she was a big lady and you KNEW it was on if you got sent in there. I know it's a different time but I have seen my teachers LITERALLY slap people and the rest of us knew not to challenge it. ALSO, I can't ever say that I felt mistreated by teachers. We got what we got when we got out of hand... and our TEACHERS put us back in our place and it didn't take long. My HS was all black so it took me a while to understand how some people could feel that their could be other motivations to their child being unfairly disciplined. So I DO get that part. It's just that I never experienced it. Looking back, our punishments were always fair. For example, when my niece was in school, she would do well on tests but get C's in class for NO HOMEWORK. Not that she didnt do it, but she didn't feel like walking across campus to her locker to get it.. NOW, im my day, whoever didn't have their homework, had to "line up".. LOL I bet her azz would have had that homework then. It's just hard for ME in my mind to see kids act like that because it's just something I never witnessed.

I just can't relate and know that since I have two of my own now that I have to learn this "new way". I have no idea how "time out" works. But again, my wife has a low tolerance for acting up so if discipline gets past her to DADDY, they done really fuked up!

I can agree with every sentence you stated. Growing up in an all black school from K-12 things were different than what these kids are going through now..

Oh, I remember youe school well...did a couple of summer school classes there. The discipline. was. in. place...even for us FCers...but you have to admit, if we EVER saw a teacher do something like this...he/she wouldn't make it to their car without us "rising up" and rioting on them...and you know to "rise up" at an adult then??? You gonna get tore out the frame when you got home...so...you had better have one of the best damn excuses of your life for doing so....

That's a school where discipline is done properly. What about these alternative schools where some of these kids act like they are on Cell Block D.

If we are having a honest conversation about it we have discuss all aspects. Just as there are some sorry teachers; there are some kids that are truly uncontrollable.
