A correction on Leon Murray. He was at TnSU for three years. I talked to him about transferring to SU in '97 before he went down to Tenn. State (you might recall that, for the most part, he was raised in Shreveport: he born up here in Cincy and was a younster in my church). He was in contact with SU after he decided to transfer from Pitt but that's another story.

Anyway, a quote from Pro Football Weekly.

LEON MURRAY
QB | (6-2 1/2, 205, 4.75e)
Tennessee State
by Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Enrolled at Pittsburgh in 1995 as a quarterback and redshirted. Moved to receiver in '96 and caught five passes for 38 yards. Came to Tennessee State in '97 so he could play quarterback and hit on 144 of 272 passes for 2,207 yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Led Ohio Valley Conference in total offense and was the conference Offensive Player of the Year in '98, when he completed 183-353-3,002-22-12. Was off to a good start in '99 before he hurt the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee late in the Florida A&M game after completing 25-41-345 and four scores.

Looking at Peters situation: he made the best choice for himself. The other schools have quarterbacks who have playing time along with familarity with their systems. However, I would not have handed him the starting job before spring practice. But Joe knows what he has coming back and if the picking are thin, well....................................

Regards.

In the final analysis...

if the kid has a great year, then congratulations to Billy Joe and the Rattlers for another outstanding QB coup. If not, there is always that kid on the scout team!
:lmao:

Leon, spent part of the summer at TSU learning the offensive scheme. He still had to waite to mid-season before he started. We have had more than our share of transfer D1A QB's, each one had to learn the system before they started. We have Irby {Marshall} Unless a miracle happen over the summer - he will not start. He still has to compete against Faint, Rosser {one of the top QB in NJ} Walker and a walk on from Michigan.

Giving him the position - may make him feel that he is better than the other QB. You know some of them already feel that way because they are at a D1A Program. BJ better be careful, this do not backfire on him.

The Rattler Quaterbacks

There is the starter --- Printers --announced recently.
One for a backup
One for third team
One for the scout team
One for the press box
One to follow Coach Joe around and learn the system
One to follow the Offensive Coordinator Around to learn the
Offense.
One to follow the Defensive Coordinator around to learn Defenses.

There were seven, that's right seven QB's that Printers jumped ahead of. All scholarship players.

The QB situation at FAMU has evolved into a cult.

Don't they all have ambition to actually play? Why learn the system if you're never going to get the glory of implementing it?
Props to Billy Joe. I don't know how he keeps those guys motivated when they have little hope.

Thanks for getting me strait! What became of Murray? I believe that TnState would have won it all that year if they hadn't lost Murray and then his backup to injuries!

MikeBiggs:

I know Murray had a tryout with Washington last year (free agent contract in 2000). The story was that he didn't get much of a chance to show himself and was cut early in camp. However, after the cut, Deion Sanders went to his defense and told the staff that they didn't give Murray much of a chance and that he deserved better. The Redskins brought him back in and he stuck to the end of camp.

I think he played in Europe last summer, but I'm not sure about that or his current status. I'll ask his uncle and let you know.

Regards.

MikeB,

Quick edit that post before borntrilla see's it, if you let him tell it the TnState team that A&T defeated that year (99 1AA Playoffs) was the same one that had gone undefeated that year.

S _ _ isn't it?

Leon Murray played in europe with the Barcelona Dragons last year where he played backup behind the european league's most valuable player QB Quinn Gray out of Middle Tn ST University. At the time his NFL right's were held by the New York Giants (I think).

I don't know if he's still on their roster at present.

Man, I can't believe some of these comments. A 3 time Division I-A Bowl starting QB. Why would he transfer in his senior year to a school that would not guarantee him that he would be starting for them? He was going to be starting at TCU in his finally year. Why go somewhere else and ride the pine, Division I-A, Division I-AA, Division II or Division III. Wouldn't you expect and demand the same? What kid doesn't want go to a school were they are going to start? This is why I stated that I pray no one is enticing him to come to their school if they aren't going to give him the starter job and pass the ball a great deal. He wouldn't be happy and who know how it would impact your team. On the other hand, if you can give him that opportunity to start for you and throw it as much as he would like, he and your school could both be pretty darn happy.

I honestly would have been shocked to see Coach Richardson make that type of commitment to him. That just isn't his character to make those types of commitments to kids prior to them coming to the school and showing their work ethic, commitment to class, etc.. I've gathered that Richard's SU teams are like a family where everyone has their role and everyone respects each other's role. Everyone knows what they have to do to earn the right to secure more playing time. Everyone knows what types of things cause you to lose some playing time.

I would not be surprise to see non-HBCU alumnus making the comments I'm reading, especially TCU alumnus. But not HBCU alumnus. What is worse, some of you were just on here days ago talking about how he was a done deal, how he has been yours for several months, how he was going to keep your school in a major light, etc... Now, you've join the bash Printers Hateration Chorus. No, I don't expect him to be loyal to any HBCU at this point. He hasn't taken a single hour/credit to date. But, I'd be surprised if he isn't at least a loyal Rattler in November. A 3 year Division I-A Bowl Starter is Left Overs to the Brothers? I just don't understand how we can take good news like this and make it so negative, so racist, so good vs bad blacks, etc... Is this a quiet, secret, undedicate hidden key reason why some many of our black youth don't go to HBCUs from the start?

I'm keeping hope alive and praying we realize and appreciate good news.

PEACE!!!

No argument here. My question has and will always be - similiar to what you stated.

Based on my observation of the D1A transfers from PWC's to HBCU's. This may or may not be the case with Printers. But, 100 % of them are haveing problem with academics, problems with the coach {not enough playing time} or the law.

Here again from my obseration - The PWC's do not release information to the public on why the person is transferring. If I was the alumni, president, faculty etc. My number one question would be as quoted above.

If he ends up at FAMU as someone stated on the MEAC Fan Page. Why make a commitment to a QB, that may not fit into your program. Do you change your entire offensive scheme to suit a QB just for one year. How are the other QB feeling - some has been waiting 2-3 years to start and know the system. Never in my life have I ever heard of anything like this. Is this a case of doing whatever it takes to win?

I hope Billy Joe, is on the up and up. If not the NCAA is going to destroy their program. Something is just not right.

Question: Has he made a public statement on why he decided to leave TCU.

,,,, amazing.

,,,,, amazing how all the Printers hype/spin now has turned.

One thing that I just don't understand, though, is,,,,,,, how da freak you gone just come in,,,,,, AND BE ANNOINTED THE STARTER???????? I don't think that will be good for team moral at FAMU. So are all the other competitive QBs and team members who have to bust arse to win a position cool with making an exception for Printers? Welp, I guess we will see.

Yes, that analogy about benching him like a drunk wife at a church picnic is CLASSIC!:lmao:

Great visuals there! I, too, have logged that one for future reference.

I was talking to this cat from Gram last night at the basketball game and he said that Printers couldn't have enrolled at FAMU, because he was just at Gram and was gonna enroll there. I told him that word was he was already at FAMU and he said it was a lie. I left it alone.

I still say he is D-1 garbage.

The reason TCU doesn't run a pass-happy offense is because they don't want him throwing 8 interceptions a game. You should have seen some of the throws he made in the galleryfurinture.com bowl. I just hope he makes some of those same throws when we come down to Tallahassee this year.

SOMETHING IS FISHY

None of the Major papers in Florida have reported anything about Parinter sigining with FAMU. I live in Florida, and no information about Printer or anybody else has been reported. I actually beieve the information that ROBBER has reported. The real strange thing is its not being discuss on the MEAC Board either. it also was national noteworhy news and no major news or sports stations have broadcasted anything about it to my knowledge.

I just thought it was a little strange myself.

According to the local paper, Billy Joe will now focus on a backup up during the spring camp. The starting job has been filled.

Coach Joe's quote: (Tallahassee Democart News)

"I'm extremely ecstatic to have him in orange and green and look forward to all the things that he can bring to this team. Casey comes to us with excellent credentials. He really is going to be a good one for FAMU"

So you mean to tell me Rattlermania was lying all this time and didn't read this in the TDO after all?

Man!

I just looked at the TDO and the only article the had about anything to do with Printers was this:

TCU quarterback takes a look at Florida A&M
By Michael Wallace
DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER

Florida A&M may be tapping into the Division I-A ranks again for its next starting quarterback.
The Rattlers, key players in the Casey Printers sweepstakes, wrapped up an official two-day visit with the former Texas Christian University quarterback on Tuesday. Printers, who toured the campus and met with FAMU coach Billy Joe, is expected to make a decision in a few days.

The 6-foot-3 senior has passed for more than 4,500 yards and 37 touchdowns the past three seasons at TCU. But he had reportedly grown unhappy with his role under first-year coach Gary Patterson, who took over last season when Dennis Franchione accepted the job at Alabama.

Printers, who split time last season with Sean Stilley, had taken an official visit to Alabama State this past weekend and is also considering Southern and Grambling State. Each school runs a pass-oriented offense that would showcase his arm strength and mobility. Printers was 23-9 as a starter for the Horned Frogs.

Printers also led TCU to three straight bowl games, including its 28-9 loss to Texas A&M in last month's GalleryFuniture.com Bowl. His visit to FAMU begins a period of three straight weeks during which the program will bring about 30 prospects to campus heading into the Feb. 6 National Signing Day.

A commitment from Printers would address the Rattlers' most critical need following the departure of record-setting quarterback Quinn Gray, who entered his final three seasons as FAMU's starter. The Rattlers must also fill voids on the offensive line, at running back and in the defensive secondary. Nearly 20 prospects are expected to visit this weekend and about a dozen next weekend.

None of the Rattlers' returning quarterbacks have significant game experience, which means the starting job will be up for grabs when spring practice begins in late March.

Printers told the media two weeks ago he had been thinking about transferring since Franchione, who recruited him, left after the 2000 season. The Horned Frogs finished 6-6 last season, and Printers was granted his release on Jan. 5.

"I've been contemplating my decision for a year now and I just feel like now is the time to go," Printers said in an interview with a Dallas-Fort Worth television station. "I should have left after Fran left, but I wanted to give this program a shot."

I think Rattlermania was come down with a bad case of TP disease.

thrilla

Someone is telling a lie - point blank. We are playing Gram & FAMU this season. If he throw 1, 2 or 3 interceptions - believe me they are going to result in TSU touchdown's.

If he ends up at Gram. I do not believe Doug, would start him over QB's that already know his system. Unless he just out perform them during spring training. Now for B J, that's another story.

Robber,

Seem like I will see you & Hughes in Memphis again this season. :D

Durn!

I went back and checked the 12-17-2001 Tallahassee Democrat (local paper) in which sports news reporter (Grambling graduate) Mike Wallace wrote the article that reported Printers had enrolled in FAMU and the job had been filled!

I read it right so if there is any misinformation, you may have to blame it on the G-Man!

H,

Is this kid from Jersey really that good!

TSU120,

Mentioned that the QB from Jersey is the truth also. However I think that Irby is a big kid with a strong arm and has all the potential in the world.

Interesting!

I guess I will have to wait & see.

It would be really - - d if this kid decides to stay where he is. I mean, the coach IS new. The coach may have a change of heart before the season starts and decides that we are going to throw the ball alittle more than he expected. I believe that this kid is getting FAMU's hopes up and he is going to stay where he is. I mean, he already knows his key players, some of his coaching staff (if he still have his QB coach), and his conference. Why go somewhere new to learn a new style your last season as a college player? That is like changing your major to something totally new (if you could) when you become a senior in college.

It all seems really simply. The kid was promised a big time passing offense prior to committing to TCU. Well, TCU had a Heisman type running back at the time and he basicly fell for the hook line and sinker. Coaches left and the promise to do it his second year also went out the window. So, it appears he has hung in there hoping he finally gets his chance to show how effective he could be passing the ball and it has been kept in bounds.

I don't know if anything is wrong with that. But if it ain't what he wants to do and he only has 1 more year. it is wise of him to go where there is no question that he will get his chance to chunck the ball. FAMU already throws big time. There want be any adjusing. They don't have a QB that has quote earned the job. So, there shouldn't be any team issues with him coming in and starting.

He seemed impressed with Bama St., but it sounds like he feel in Love with FAMU. There Mass Comm program is better than TCU's and they are accepting a lot of his credits. His scholarship is transfering.

Mom, was hoping for GRambling... You know she wanted him closer.. Plus, GSU plays PV in Dallas every year. That is why, along with former Super Bowl MVP QB Doug, that I thought would take him to GSU.

All that matters to me is that he is happy and the school is glad to have him. I want our talent at our schools.. Period.

PEACE!!!

Good Luck to him...Not your usual story!!!

I hope he maintains a relationship with his new school that extends throughout his life. That's what makes our experiences so worthwhile and pleasurable.

Sorry to tell you but

It is official, Printer is a Rattler, please stop the lying. He is not going to Grambling, he never even visited your school. So how is it that he is going to enroll soon?
Here is a rely I received today from Mike Wallace a Grambling Grad and the report who covers FAMU for the Tallahassee Democrat. If you have any problems with what he said please take it up with he. [email protected]

Quote by Mike Wallace reporter for the Tallahassee Democrat
Casey Printers, I've been told, is at FAMU and enrolled last week after an official visit. He didn't even make an official visit to Grambling. The only other school we checked out officially was Alabama State. I figured Grambling would be the spot for him at first because he's a Texas kid and Grambling is about 3 hours away from his hometown near Dallas. Plus, GSU plays in Texas once or twice a year. But I spoke with his mom through email yesterday and he's in Tallahassee at FAMU.
Printers makes FAMU a legitimate favorite to repeat as league champs. From what I've heard, he combines Quinn Gray's arm strength with JaJuan Seider's guts, Pat Bonner's smarts and Oteman Sampson's athletic ability. That's awfully high praise to put on anyone.
Take care.

Why are you people so caught up on Mike Wallace being a Grambling graduate? What the ***** does that have to do with Printers and where he enrolls? Get over it man...where he went to school has what do with how he reports the news? So please stop putting that in every post after youmention Wallace's name! Dayum! I mean if Printers never visited GSU, ASU, or any where else.....so what? some of you people act like this guy is the savior of BCF...........

I mean dayum FAM...yall can have Printers. I have said it before and I will say it again. I am happy that he didn't come to GSU. I for one never wanted him as apart of our program. QB is critical. Its not like a WR or DB. Or any other shared position. There is only one QB...and we already have one on our campus. A good one, who is posed to be a great one! Your programs may need transfers to survive and compete. We grow talent from the ground up.

Time will tell

Your programs may need transfers to survive and compete. We grow talent from the ground up.

And your program has been on top for how long now? Grambling has come around just in the last two years, so please don?t act like, you have been there all the time. The difference in a good program and a team having a good class is that you do it over time. We will see if your school had a good class of talent or really have a good program.

Time will tell.
