TCU's Printers Enrolls at FAMU

High profile QB Casey Printers from TCU enrolled at FAMU on Wednesday. The 6'-3" Printers was 23-9, a three year starter, passed for 4500 yards, 13 TDs and lead the Horned Frogs to three straight bowl games.

He decided to turn down Grambling, Alabama State and Southern.

FAMU Coach Billy Joes comments, "I am ecstatic" and with that gave him the job over six other FAMU QB hopefuls (before spring camp even)
 
How could he just GIVE the job to him because he came from D WHITE MANS University. Billy Joe should still make him compete for the starting job. You dont do your own people like that who have been down with you from day 1. Printers dont give a damn about FAMU, he is all about himself.

Let's hope that it works out for all involved. However, you have to feel for the kids already in camp. But that's the nature of the beast.
 
According to the local paper, Billy Joe will now focus on a backup up during the spring camp. The starting job has been filled.

Coach Joe's quote: (Tallahassee Democart News)

"I'm extremely ecstatic to have him in orange and green and look forward to all the things that he can bring to this team. Casey comes to us with excellent credentials. He really is going to be a good one for FAMU"
 
I just want to know how many INTs will he be throwing against us this year?

We could always count on at least three from Quinn Gray. :)
 
DaHill I feel where you are coming from about being loyal to your own, but one thing I think you are missing. ALL of FAM top QB's are transfers from D Whiteman University. So their loyalty to the program can be questioned just as easily as Printers can....

In all Honesty..FAM is the best place for him. They live for the QB transfer. The day they recruit a QB prospect and groom him into the starter will be the 1st time! Gray, Seider...the list goes on.

I really didn't care where he went as long as he stayed his arse away from GSU. We have a QB poised and set to start for 3 years. He will go down in the GSU record books before he is done!Bruce Eugene is teh future and as I stated many times, I didn't want some one hit wonder coming and and messing up the program we have running. We recruit talent, while some of you wait for others leftovers!

Then we'll see if Billy Joe can put Printers in a scheme that can run with the HOBO Offense craddled with the ROCK's Defense!!!

I agree witcha' dude... GRAM has a good QB... no need for him to miss a season and miss out on the experience.
 
So what does this say about FAMU??

I am not insinuating anything, but if I were a high school QB being recruited by FAMU, what would be my incentive to sign there? The history of your program under Billy Joe says that you will probably be usurped by a Div 1A or JUCO QB. Meaning that you will definitely be red-shirted before you step on the field as a frosh. You won't necessarily play as a soph unless there is a rash of injuries and by your Jr and Sr years, according to what Billy Joe has done, a transfer will show up who is promised a starting slot.

Man, I would hate to be the recruiter talking to high school SR QBs for FAMU!!! What do you say? "Go somewhere else first, and if you are worth anything, we'll see if you're happy and try to get you on later!"

Now it could be that these kids were initially recruited by FAMU (or whoever) and hopefully interest maintained in the individual and their development as a person and player. Now that is as legit as possible and says something about the coach! I would be loyal to a guy like that!

If this were not the case, then the negative perception could have very negative implications in the long run!!!

JD...I see where you are coming from. But would that same kid even be interested if he had gone to said university and actually gotten to play? He wouldn't be trying to transfer then, regardless of who tried to recruit him out of high school. Believe me when I tell you that when kids transfer from 1-A to 1-AA they are doing so because they want to play and they feel that because they signed with a 1-A program out of high school, they have to be much better than the 1-AA recruits so they feel they should start right away. It has nothing to do with who recruited them out of high school. Look at Printers, he went to the school that would GIVE him the starting job! And to give the transfer the job is a slap in the face to the player who was poised to start. The transfer should have to compete just like everyone else....and then if he proves to be the better player, then give him the job. But he shouldn't be handed the job just from walking on campus.

This is why I respect Doug so much. Last year when Arnold transferred in from Conference USA...he wasn't given the job. Same with Shanklin. The both had to earn their positions even though one was the Conference USA sack leader and the other led the SEC in punt returns. No one was given the job simply because they were 1-A transfers!
 
This may sound "suspect", but I'm glad that other schools are having a talent upgrade. Not sure if Printers is an upgrade for FAMU in terms of talent (there could be someone there with more ability), but he does have the edge in terms of experience.

What I'm saying is that, all of our schools need to have an infusion of talent so that we can compete against each other and the schools on our schedule. You can't knock Billy Joe for having the philosophy of bringing in players with one year of eligibility. That's been his consistent practice even back at Central State.

Although it is a bit troubling bringing in a one year guy and "giving" him the starting nod, but I'm sure there is no guarantee. If Printers flops, Joe will bench him like a drunk wife at a church picnic. The players at FAMU have dealt with this before and probably understands how this works. The rattlers have a "pro" camp mentality and will bring in a Free agent qb when necessary!
 



This only confirms what I said on a similar topic about Printers. He shows-up and get's the nod. He has no idea about the offensive scheme or know the players. I am sure there are going to be some upset backup quarterbacks this spring. Fighting for a backup role is like to wineheads fighting for the last sip. BJ, should be ashame of himself.

Nevertheless, TN State will welcome him to black college football in Atlanta.

Here's my original post...


IF he transfers to Grambling, he will be allowed to compete for a position. We already have some good qb's in camp, so it will be tough for him to crack the starting lineup.

Even our holder has another year of eligibility...he might be isht out of luck
 
Not the Kid....

I said it on MFans that I wihed him luck, but that I wanted him to stay away from Grambling..........
 
A&T just signed the #1 senior Qb prospect in the entire state of NC yesterday.

After watching Printers' performance in the galleryfurniture.com bowl, I would be more than content with playing our freshman.

Trust me: Printers is Quinn Gray all over again. Plus there's a chance he might be lazy and overconfident since Joe already rewarded him the starting job 7 months before the season.

I am one who doesn't think Quinn Grey was a bad QB......this season his number went down because FAM had some of the crappiest WR's in the nation. Those boys couldn't catch a cold. When QG lost his security blanket in Nunnaly....he numbers sucked.

But I am like you thrilla...we recruit our QB's. Printers can kiss myy arse!

Just those schools who had doubts about their current group of QB. It's truly sad when you start depending on transfers. That say's a lot about the program's ability to recruit / attract quality players.

I pray and hope TN State, do not get to point of depending on transfers and rejects. If they come to TSU, they will have to compete for the position. Just ask Irby.

Never say never. It depends on the head coach. I'm gonna have to call you out===> What was your reaction when Leon Murray came in for one year? But you did say he competed for the position, which I have no problem with. I would not want to punish a kid who transfer in if he is clearly the better player.

I remember in Doug's first year, he brought in University of Arkansas transfer LaJuan "Pete" Burks who actually started some games as a freshman at U of Ark. Initially he started, but was beaten out by Lionel Hayes (clearly the better passer) who had transferred the previous year from Southern University (after Pete & Orlando brought in Marcus Jacoby a former walk-on at La. Tech who was third team/scout qb )

One to follow Coach Joe around and learn the system
One to follow the Offensive Coordinator Around to learn the
Offense.
One to follow the Defensive Coordinator around to learn Defenses.

There were seven, that's right seven QB's that Printers jumped ahead of. All scholarship players.

The QB situation at FAMU has evolved into a cult.
