But I also put some of the blame on that other light skinnded brutha roaming around campus........I think his name is Mason or something like that. 1st, he presides over a school that gets into APR trouble and then he goes to another school that's almost out of APR trouble and the next thing you know, the school he presides over is banned!! :smh:
I really don't know much about this APR stuff. So inbox me the truth......
Realistically, It would be difficult to schedule games which would put JSU in playoff position. If JSU wanted to go playoff route, no SWAC schools would be scheduled and other teams are half-filled with conference foes.
Basketball and Baseball would be more difficult. Dallas Baptist decided to take the conference route because there are so many teams out that don't have a huge RPI in the region.
So, good luck with that. Not saying J-State can't do it but it would be difficult.

I didn't say schedule games for playoffs. I just said schedule some games. We DONT go to the playoffs anyway. What are the benefits of being in this conference? Can anyone legitimately answer that or are we going to start talking about ADs, meaningless records, and other nonsense again?
Ok. No playoffs. But may I ask, what would be the benefit of being classified as independent? Suppose JSU went independent, who would JSU schedule?
I mention playoffs for 2 reasons: 1) Some folks on this board think this conference could win games in the postseason and 2) it is a good recruiting tool. I'm sure Omar is using not only JSU's playoff run but it's victory over a topped ranked team as a recruiting advantage.
Now, I will admit the schools in this conference do not look well with the APR issues nearly every school has had over the last 5 years or so.
But realistically, if JSU left, where would you go? And how would you fare as independents? Who would JSU play football games against at home?

Benefit of not being hampered by corrupted SWAC by laws. We would schedule the same schools. SU, Alcorn, Valley, and a few others from other conferences. We wouldn't have to go anywhere to be independent. This conference has became a cesspool of underachieving schools. And I'm not just talking athletics either.
And can anyone answer the "benefits" of being in this conference? What? There's safety in numbers or something? We can all hold hands as we go down in the abyss of ineptness?
What? We should just all stick together? Do the Big schools stick when their sister schools drag down the conference?
What? WHAT? What is the benefits?

If this conference is a "cess pool" (and I am not saying it is) it started with jsu going 0-13 in the I-AA playoffs. It is the single most damaging stigma attached to this conference in terms of competitiveness against out of conference foes. This is a program that came to Atlanta and embarrased the SWAC against NC A&T and followed that up by letting the MEAC abuse them in the SWAC/MEAC challenge.

Well....what's su's excuse for not being able to get past Mighty JSU? Walter Payton, Lem Barney, Slater, Perry, Brazile and many others is what put the SWAC on the map. Now try again. Other than that, nobody knew about the SWAC other than Grambling and Eddie Robinson.
Heck, what is su nationally know for other than every sport being banned due to putrid APR issues?

Ok let me see if I got this correct. JSU is going to leave the cesspool known as the SWAC because it's corrupt, and than after leaving they're going to schedule schools like SU, GUS, ASU etc? Is that about right?

What makes you think that...
1) Any of those school will want to schedule a school that left the conference?
2) What makes ou think the conference would allow them to schedule you?
3)Have you notice how that's working out for TNSU?

If your bottomline is putting butts in the seat to support your athletic programs, you'd be smart and intelligent to put your ego aside. Who else is going to fill your stadiums and bring millions to your economy? Valley? AAMU? PB?? Think about it.

A lot of their posters are delusional. Remember, we're talking about a program that has won 1 championship in 17 years that has a middle of the pack SWAC budget. If they move anywhere it will be to D-2 in the SIAC. They're pride will not allow them to do that so they will remain in the SWAC.

And this coming from a school who again got blasted....at home....by 28 points.....by a D-2 school. Now WHO needs to go to D-2? A school that has all of it's sports banned would be better off making D-2 their permanent home than a school whose athletic and academic programs are hands down thee most stable and consistent in the SWAC.
I will admit that I don't know the SWAC bylaws nor am I about to research them. So, I will take your stance on JSU being hampered.
But, in 1 sense, you answered a top question of being affiliated with the conference.....scheduling. In each top money sport, over half of the schedule is already prepared. The other benefit is playoffs. A 27-23 Jackson State baseball team would not have made the NCAA's.
But like bluedog said, if this conference is a cesspool (which have been swimming in for quite some time), why would some of these schools want to schedule you? Like it or not, if you were to leave the conference, become independent, and still schedule the conference teams, you will still be considered SWAC.
But, I do agree with GR, we(rest of the conf.) may need to come visit JSU and see how to get out of APR issues and stay out.
But if JSU were to go independent, who is going to fill your stadium and bring millions to your economy? Grambling? AAMU? Nicholls State? Austin Peay? TN Tech?
And this would go the same for basketball, baseball, and softball.

JSU has survived for decades when other non-SWAC schools visited Memorial. I highly doubt if Valley and Alcorn will not want to play JSU because we bring more fans than any SWAC school.

J94, you maybe a little too young to remember, but there was a time where each school prepared their own schedule and didn't have the leisure of being lazy and allowing the conference to prepare it for them. The only schools that needed that assistance are the ones that are not attractive enough to find legitimate opponents.
So once again, JSU was hampered by the SWAC bylaws.
