SLT, that joker is so heated that he admitted to not wanting his basketball team to even go to the tournament because of some stupid "Basketball school" title. He dont even realize the ones that came up with that title was a D2 school.

It is an accomplishment. You COULD be the UAPB of the worst conference in the nation. :snicker:

But for real? What made you folks think this thread was smack? It was a dayum question. Some of you are too insecure.

It amazes me that we as a people look for the most insignificant causes to hang our hopes on. Truly and I mean truly- at the end of the day not one school in this damn conference has anything to bragg about outside of the conference walls. So we resort to tearing each other to threads when not a one of us has anything to be proud of when it comes to athletics. Oh I forgot about yesteryear - when all we had were our institutions of higher learning. but now my friends we are a has been when it come to athletics. If you're still in denial look across the landscape of college athletics and you'll find the very best in black athletes attending where? not yours or mine institution. So if it gives you a since of accomplishment:emlaugh: continue on bashing and downgrading everyone that does not wear your school color of choice- because the shat don't matter. Get a life people.

I guess the ironic part, in my eyes, is the fact that these are the same people who would be saying the same thing everyone else is (too big, too strong, too fast) had it not been THEIR team playing in the game.

When PV went in 98, we said IF they can get LaFrentz in foul trouble, IF we can get to Paul Pierce, then MAYBE we could keep it close enough for an upset. We all know how that turned out.

Don't get it twisted. I am definitely behind JSU and hope Trey can will them to a win. I just, IMHO, don't believe it will even be close.

That was because yall were not the best team in the SWAC that year. Yall upset everybody in the SWAC tourney to get there with a losing record. JSU is not a luck up and win the SWAC tourney team. They were good all year. Did Duke blow SU off the court last year like Kansas did PV? Did Arkansas blow TxSU out when they went? Whenever the SWAC has sent their legit champ to the big dance, most of the time we have been at least competative.

Evebn though SWAC teams were competitive, they still lost. I think some valid points are made. I just graduated from JSU and I want them to win just as much as anyone, but do I think it will happen...no. I think just being competitive is not enough. SWAC schools have to start beating these teams. Look at the last eight years of the Tourney: Gonzaga, Butler, Bucknell, Winthrop SIU, Valpo, etc. All those schools were not "basketball schools" 10-15 years ago and now they are beating the big boys left and right. Why can't the SWAC do the same thing? Because it is hard as hell to recruit 5 good players to one program in the SWAC. I don't think any SWAC fan can stick their chest out and say "we kept the game close in first half." That just does not cut it. And SWAC fans should expect more of the teams during non-conference play and in the NCAA tournament. Like I said before, until SWAC boosters, alumni and media put pressure on teams to win, the SWAC will always be the same and the SWAC will always be behind everyone else. But we are just happy to get that one game of national exposure in the tournament and lose every year.

This sounds like being the SWAC champion in football too.

Unfortunately it is. The problem is resources/money. Our athletes are the same age and size as the other schools. Our coaches have coaches the same number of years, the difference lies in the resources. They have stuff we just don't have that makes their program better.

Nothing will change until we get more resources. By resources, I mean better training equipment, better training programs, rehab programs and equipment, coaching training, off season workout regiments that are up to date, funding, etc.

Also, we need to start to think outside the box and not let the lack of resources hold us back. I saw a special on a major Midwestern school (Iowa or Iowa State) where their players pushed a wheel barrel loaded with several 40lbs bags of dry cement through some obstacle course during the off season. Some how, the trainer there thought this would improve their strength, agility/quickness at the same time because it required the muscles to be used in a different fashion as opposed to just lifting weights.

alot of the SWAC schools don't have strength and conditioning coaches so how can we expect to play at a higher level if we can't afford the basics?

HBCU's will never advance until 8 or 9 or us move to 1-A in football. That's where the money is.

Move how? ALL of us are athletically broke and do not possess the intelligence to put a stolid plan in place to make the jump. None of us. :wavey:

I saw UNT go through it and theirs was well planned, well documented, and well financed. NO ONE in the SWAC is @ that level. If you think you are, there's swamp land in Missouri that's calling your name. :retard:

:lmao:

I think this gets *-Man75 more than anything else. Can't say I blame him either.

:lmao:
NOT!!! Because I know who we are and you do too, which gets you and everybody else. So do whatever you have to do to try to forget it!!! :lmao: I guess that makes YOU feel better!!!

I think that our AD has that direction in mind. Right now I believe he is getting some monies in line to eventually do so. We are playing these I-A people for a reason. I feel the one we beat might be the conference they look in to. We definitely have room to add seating. Its down the road, but closer than we think..... Don't think we would do bad in that ULM/ULL Conference. Who else wants to, or can see there team moving up and out of the SWAC?

Grambling is playing 9 HBCU's and 2 1-A's this year. What the hell kind of solid plan do you need to play 7 or 8 1-A HBCU's and some PWC 1-A's? This is where I always get lost in this argument. Yes, you have to put a plan together but it ain't rocket science to do that.

We are broke in 1-AA, why stay there if potential money is out there?

Gram-75. Gram can't do it alone. This is the only problem I see is that you have to get 8-9 schools on the same page.
